Title: Inter exchange arbitrage
Post by: btccomm on May 16, 2012, 10:37:23 PM
Does anyone do arbitrage between the exchanges?  I seeing $5.09/BTC at Mt Gox and $4.76/BTC at Campbx.  That seems a big enough spread to make some.

Am i missing something?

I've been wondering about this too. The spread between Intersango and MTGox has between $.20-$.30/BTC for a few days now. If it didn't take so long to transfer USD from Dwolla to Intersango, I would buy more BTC there, transfer it to MTGox, and sell for USD. Rinse and Repeat. Even with some higher trade fees of 1.5% total, that would take out $.10 per trade, it's still a good deal.

There are arbitrage traders out there that presumably are doing this very kind of thing of profit. But if that's the case, market theory tells us the exchanges should be more balanced. Why aren't they?

Transferring money in and out of exchanges is currently problematic.

Bitinstant? Only 0.89% fee.

CampBX and Dwolla don't support it though yet, I hope they will one day.
