Title: I lost 10BTC due to a bug v0.6.0
Post by: Gardanris on May 19, 2012, 06:12:38 AM
Of course, the blame is not made a backup wallet.dat
http://blockchain.info/address/14aAM9tMuuQBjBXrkHZ7peKTkXHLoNqB6y
9.4BTC + the little things to a different addresses

Bug is that the program remains after closing some time in the memory (the process) and overwrites the wallet.dat. At this point I let the computer reboot. After a purse is no longer run.

Send the file to moderator, says it all shabby, can not be restored.

The essence of this message ...
1. Make backup copies.
2. Upgrade to latest version.

A few days later released a new version 0.6.1 which is corrected
- Shutdown improvements

Sorry for bad translation

The keys are likely still readable if you find someone with the knowledge to pull them from the mangled db.  As long as you don't kill the program in the middle of its shutdown procedure there is no risk.  If you get impatient, you can mangle your wallet file.  However, this is moot now that the latest client shuts down in under a second on most systems.  That, plus I would never send money to a wallet without first making an encrypted backup.  If this all seems too complicated, use a web wallet so someone else can take care of these issues for you.
