Monero. It's about as cheap as it will go right now!

Monero. It's about as cheap as it will go right now!

I have been hearing a lot about Monero as well as worldcoin and I just don't know much about them. I'm not looking to make a fast buck but rather a alt that I may be able to hold onto for a long while. Do you think Monero would be a good option for a long term investment?

I suggest DOGE rather than Pandacoin. I don't know too much about Pandacoin, but I know that the DOGE community is already large and shibes tend to recruit others (others who have never been into crypto, which are the most important new users).

Well, for starters Monero is not a Bitcoin clone, it uses a completely different protocol called CryptoNote. Monero was only launched in April 2014, and is a fair coin with no premine. As such, development is in embryonic stages and it is not exactly ready for the masses. It offers several key features due to the use of ring signatures - unlinkable transactions, untraceable payments; the anonymity is baked in to the protocol.

With the coming BitLicense regulations I expect further reason for private liquidity such as this to coexist along with the transparent ledger of Bitcoin. Many early bitcoin devs and early adopters have shown interest in Monero such as Peter Todd and gmaxwell.

Investing in Monero right now is like buying Bitcoin in 2010 - you have to believe the infrastructure will be built up but the technological advantages are there.

Dogecoin. Pandacoin has gone pretty shady over the months. Not to mention, it did become inactive for a little while, strangely.

I'd take Dogecoin any day. It's a nice, hype coin and it has a good community which is rare when it comes to coins of that nature. It picks up after a Pump N' Dump easily. I've invested in it a few times and got a pretty good return, and mostly, it was because it was speedy.

However, if you are choosing between Dogecoin and Panda, I think you'd do best splitting it down the middle... 50/50.

Pandacoin is shady, but, it's community does protect each other from useless FUD and Dogecoin is also good and just has more opportunities than Panda, due to it becoming a meme.

Whatever you do, absolutely DO NOT go into any of the rare coins, such as 42, 62, etc. Also I'd advise going into one with a active community, too.

Hope this helped, OP.

But then again - it's your investment. So if neither of these work for you just go crazy with it.

(My .000002BTC)

Everyone here will just tell you what they're investing in is the best option. Best way to find out is to do some research on things you want to potentially invest in. Understand the investment, the risk, and the potential reward. And above all be sure you are only investing what you are willing to lose.

Since you already have lots of bitcoin, why not just use some bitcoin and convert it to alt-coin. But anyway darkcoin is the best!!

No.  It's not.

Bitcoin was the only one of it's kind.  It invented cryptocurrency.  Monero is not inventing cryptocurrency for the first time - it's competing on a field of dozens of altcoins & several "anon coins"

Here's a FUD thread I created for it.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=783471.40

I agree XMR is the only interesting thing around right now.  But to state that it's "like investing in bitcoin in 2010" could just as easily be said for any altcoin.

It DOES have it's major pro's - but don't be blind.

*Disclaimer.  I'm a proud XMR owner & the only alt I care about outside of BTC (& LTC a little)

I suppose what I mean by that statement is that the risk involved in buying XMR right now is similar to buying BTC when it was $1. It could very well go to zero but the potential reward in my opinion is much greater than buying any other coin - crypto long term (1-4 years).

Buy cannabis coin, seems like the hottest coin right now.

I don't like what it stands for and it will most likely die because people buy drugs with bitcoin, litecoin and most likely dogecoin very soon.
I just don't see it being a good investment.

And that is why I'm going with Dogecoin! The only hesitation I have is the number of them out there.
They will most likely never reach the value of BTC but either will litecoin... That being said... Even if they hit $1 in the distant future I will still be able to make a good amount of money.

I was in your exact position about 3 months ago, I gave myself 6 months to turn $1000 into $2000. My journal is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=683062.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=683062.0)

Skip to the last post to see my latest updates.

I have nearly doubled my amount in BTC in ~3months from coins that give you a % of interest every week to two weeks. They are called POS coins and you recieve interest by just keeping your wallet open which helps secure the network. Some of the profit was from trading but most of it was from the % interest I received from each coin. I would recommend Hobonickels, Bottlecaps and Hyperstake. I would buy the others at current prices but not hyperstake, get it a bit cheaper as the market is starting to stabilise now. These coins wont get you rich in a week but they have provided consistent safe returns for me so far. Just my 2cents, Goodluck.

BitSwift (SWIFT) is one of the newest coins to be developed, fastest selling ICO in bittrex history, already over x4 ICO price and holding strong. No signs of scam devs or weak community in-fighting that brings down so many coins (XST, SDC, NXT, ectt.).

Doge has been around a long time, you will not make much from it. PND too is a very slow coin. Why not diversify your assets? You can possibly profit more this way and with more security. Alt's come and go as they are constantly pumped by whales, very few organic coins. Get used to flipping. For nice couple week holds look into UTIL, SWIFT, EXCL, and maybe some Blocknet shares.

Best,
Doc

I would suggest you take a look at Checkcoin [CKC].

A coin backed up by a (real) Dutch company aka Bitsend. It is a coin with new (groundbreaking?) features. I believe this may possibly become the next hype, but who knows. I am not in for the hype, the idea is fresh, new and I am liking it. In addition; the price has been hovering around the ICO for a quite long time (I know how much you guys hate ICO, but this company needed the funds for further development- it is visible what is being done with the funds and they are spending it wisely imo). Checkcoin is rated 5 stars by Cryptoasian and the coin really shows signs of innovation.

Features are pretty neat. Here is an article for some more information by our dear friend Debunt;
http://www.cryptoarticles.com/crypto-news/checkcoin-could-become-the-foursquare-of-digital-currency

Checkcoin Bitcointalk page:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=715563.0

Checkcoin rating (Cryptoasian):
http://cryptoasian.com/ckc-checkcoin/

Checkcoin website:
http://www.checkcoin.cc/

Note that these are my thoughts but in my opinion these are some pretty neat signs that this has potential of a breakthrough in the cryptosphere. Time will tell, I am not giving advice; i am sharing my thoughts and making more people aware of Checkcoin. :-)

Cheers,

Clyze

2. Jinn, it is a NXT asset too, but a real world project designed by Come-from-Beyond. I should charge money for this tip.

Guldencoin DEV currently working hard on the difficulty simulator; a tool that allows us to test difficulty re-adjustment algorithms against real-world situations.
This tool is very important to make sure our development on the new algo is supported by results.

I thought it might be a good idea to share this experience with everyone here.

Thank you all for your opinions. The conclusion I have come to is that you guys don't know any more than i do. It's all speculation at this point. As far as I can tell BTC will forever be the leader of the pack in Cryptocurrency and if BTC fails all the others will fall like dominoes. I started this thread wanting to know if I should invest in 1 alt out of 2 and now I'm invested in 4. Fuck it, right?!?  There WILL be a second to BTC and as far as I'm concerned lightcoin is not one of them. I will invest in ALL coins that have potential because I remember CLEARLY when BTC was nothing but a joke. I love you all and good luck. PM me!!!

i wont go for pandacoin, for me the alarm bells rings and tell me its getting pumped and dumped and die.

So then i prefer dogecoin (DOGE) or dogecoindark (DOGED)

Or when we talk about an in vestment maybe Cannabiscoin ( CANN ) is a good one. It's already accepted in America in the herball wellness center for patients what need medical cannabis. Since 20-10-2014 they can buy there medical cannabis with CANN. They got many actions and less words ( they are talking with other medical cann stores to accept cann, and moving to europe also ).
The dev team owns there own grow facility and herball wellness center, have interviews with important people like the CNN etc. So maybe that's a good investment if u wanne go for a new coin.

I'd say the best option, if you're OK with a possible loss, to rent some hash, point it to xhash.net, start mining new coins as soon as they launch and dump when they first go on exchange at high prices.

Put that $1000 in the slot machine, chances of making the profit are about the same as investing in this new wave of shitcoins.

Features are pretty neat. Here is an article for some more information by our dear friend Debunt;

Checkcoin Bitcointalk page:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=715563.0

Checkcoin rating (Cryptoasian):

Checkcoin website:

Note that these are my thoughts but in my opinion these are some pretty neat signs that this has potential of a breakthrough in the cryptosphere. Time will tell, I am not giving advice; i am sharing my thoughts and making more people aware of Checkcoin. :-)

Cheers,

Clyze

CKC word is spreading fast and price is finding new bottoms.

You should buy some Moneros and then buy CryptoKingdom gold on current CK gold auction  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=835528.msg9354792#msg9354792) .

$1000 would bring you right now about 6000 CK Gold what brings 36k stone and 3 millions moneritos every day. what can be close to 0.5-1% daily return.

Hello! I'm the OP of this thread! Just wanted to wish you all good luck and announce that This is now the "Guesstimation" Thread. It's like the Speculation board but a lot better!  :D ;D :D

Guess away gentlemen!!!

I'm not looking for opinions on a ton of different alts. I have 1k to spend in alt coins and I decided I will either go with Pandacoin or Dogecoin. Please don't tell me to buy BTC as I am a early investor and have all I want. what coin out of these two would you choose. I AM prepared to lose this money so if either of these coins fail it wont bother me and I am planing on holding them for years. Help me gamble guys!  ;D

Monero is a good bet for the long haul bet.
I'm also throwing a hail Mary at kore and am dabbling in sdc, though with all the scummy threads popping up around block net I'm considering removing money from any coin that has touched that mess.

Dogecoin?  ::)

I guess OP haven't heard of moolah or woolong.  ;D

Invest your money on RDD if you want to make profit. If it becomes Reddit coin you'll be rich in months. That's the only coin I truly trust besides CANN & BTC.

Hey Jimmy, Keep being useless buddy!  8)

I have no interest in the coins you're talking about. I do my research and you HAVE to add the fucking "roll eyes" when talking about Dogecoin?
YOU will be the one crying into your empty altcoin basket.

I'd spend my money on GPUs... got a feeling Neoscrypt and Lyra2 are gonna be fun...  ;D

No doubt there are lot of cheap and dirty GPUs everywhere.

I would buy some BitGold also, Silver seems cheap too.

If you want to invest in crypto, you should buy BTC and wait. Maybe in the far future BTC will be worth a lot, but is it very uncertain.

Heheh, this!

Guess BTC is a almost in a good entry point for long term investment. Just wait a little bit to the 200 USD zone.

Best way to invest 1k is buying Cannabis coins (CANN). But don`t just buy and sell, be long investor. 1 CANN = 1 g Candy

Whatever you choose, don't just hold for years. A lot happens in a few months, let alone years!
You may want to choose some innovative ones and regularly (not yearly) look out for clones overpassing them (like LTC did with Tenebrix?)
