Title: Victory Day 1945, Why the need of a standing Military?
Post by: BitMos on October 26, 2014, 06:29:24 AM
Constitutionally the USoA, don't need the kineticest army on Earth for fun ( ::) ), and so came the concept of militia (aka the millennium falcon in starwars  ;)), and so why the need to move to an army type Star Destroyers to retake the analogy ???. For one simple question, some people wanted to "prohibition trading"  :o :-X :'(. The Market had to take care of itself 8). And so the Imperial Fleet was created :D. Of course they are risks :-\, but under the guise of the C&BoR 8), they are worth it ;D, when taking the event of realization of prohibition :o. United we stand ;). And let me tell you ::), it wasn't a fiction in those days :P, it had happened in others countries :-[.

I think the US needs their army to defend against people who use too many smilies.

I could be wrong though.

The United States of America has a standing military for that same reason (http://www.shaysrebellion.stcc.edu/shaysapp/essay.do?shortName=getby_petition) it is no longer a confederation (https://history.state.gov/milestones/1776-1783/articles).

We need a standing army to protect the politicians from the people.

U.S. Soldier's Creed

I am an American Soldier.I am a Warrior and a member of a team.I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.I will always place the mission first.I will never accept defeat.I will never quit.I will never leave a fallen comrade.I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.I am an expert and I am a professional.I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.I am an American Soldier.

I don't see the politician part, and if they or any become what will be mentioned here after:

United States Uniformed Services Oath of Office
I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.[1]

Logically and rationally if one politician becomes a domestic enemy, he be the contrary of protected. However you have to understand that sometime, letting the domestic enemy roam free, can have multiple advantages for further tactical use. It may explain the disturbance that you feel in the force ;).

They are already being used to protect the politicians.

You think the people enjoy being oppressed? What stands in the way of people taking back the country by force?

Hint: standing army

What and who is oppressing you, and how? What do you understand by "politicians"?

What and who is oppressing you, and how? What do you understand by "politicians"?

There are many things. I would love to freely exchange my services in exchange for money. This is not allowed by my government.

I would love to send my fiat money to a bitcoin exchange without the need to send proof of my identity and bank statements and phone verification. This is not allowed by my government.

I would love to freely rent my house out to people in exchange for money. This is not allowed by my government.

I would love to buy an item and pay the price that the shop owner is charging. This is not allowed by my government.

And on and on...

Sure, these things can be done as long as you bribe the politicians so that they can have more power to prevent people from freely doing these things.

I'm a citizen of a country made up of 50 states...and it has an eagle as its national bird ;)

Though I do not live there...I still am required to bribe the politicians in order to freely exchange my services for money.

What stands in the way of people taking back the country by force?

I would say it's mostly people not wanting to overthrow the government with force. (Second place: standing army.)
