Title: Being part of a tekkie Commune anyone?
Post by: bitcoin_bob on October 27, 2014, 01:02:32 PM
Picture this: a 7 apartment building sat on the German Czech boarder in the national park, surrounded by wilderness, with a small town 10km away that has supermarket, hospital etc. The road running past it is a direct line to Prague, CZ and a 2.5 hour drive even to Berlin.

Nice building. Sadly the economy is dead, not many people around. So its empty. Not much point for the owner to do anything with it.

Picture the other side: how many young professionals who work remotely, are crushed into romeshares/slum loard apartments, making money every day just to feed it to the rent bill and food bill? Never any time for themselves or to cook? Feeling lonely and dejected?

Here is the ideal compromise; A community project. If someone is able to work remotely anyway, then why suffer? And if being in the middle of a city surrounded by people you don't know and traffic fumes is not your thing, but you wouldn't want to live in a countryside location on your own, then a community might be a good idea.

Benefit to all people; The property gets lived in and a community experiment is born.

I personally think there must be some people in the bitcoin community that this would be of use to, being a community of 'out of the box' thinkers as it is, and who are used to doing things based on the internet.

I would appreciate comments, positive and constructive negative, on the idea, and to hear from anyone who would be interested in being part of the journey with us.

the main reason things like this dont work mostly here in the UK is poor broadband out in the wilderness. if you can solve that problem then i think it would work very well.

Not sure I want to take part, but you could certainly make use of this website if you were actually going to buy some land along with the building, technically you wouldn't even need to pay for electricity and be self-sufficient, these guys are getting a prototype generator up and running that you can fabricate from bits.

Like VM just said, the only issue is an internet connection, but who knows? You could maybe try building a mesh network.

If we assume there is a good internet connection as a must, what next?

I've heard discussions on here about mesh networks and using radio signals etc. for the internet, but all of this is pretty experimental, you'll have to do some research on it, to be frank, I'd say food and electricity would be the priority here lol :P maybe you could use the electricity somehow to get a satellite connection, sell it off somehow?

id recommend just digging a fiber cable into the ground, satellite and signal based connections all add to slower speeds and higher ping both of which add to a bad experience for internet based companies or gamers.

list would go something like

1.Internet
2.Price
3.shops and stuff
4.Weather

OK well.....

1. Internet- its possible to have it without an issue. I checked it out today.
2. Price- well I estimate living costs to be around 200 euros/head/month is that cheap?
3. Shops. Major supermarket 10km away. There is a major town on the czech side 20km away with a few 100 thousand in it and loads of major shops.. But I buy everything online anyway.....so do most people in the know, except food.
4. Weather- warm summer, snowy winter. Typical central European climate.

The price seems good, but does it include house rent, electricity, water and internet? Around here students can rent a room for that price but it usually includes only the rent. : /
And another important question is, are the girls around there cute? xD

There is NO rent rent is FREE. The price is for food, electric, water, internet etc.......shared fuel in the cars, etc as in if somone makes 200 eur a month then thats ALL they should need to live, period.

As for the girls, I would say so!

That's great. xD In other circumstances I would consider joining you, but I can't leave my work or family.
But I hope you manage to do this. Good luck!

Very interesting. Have you guys considered starting a garden to grow your own food to become really self-sufficient? What kind of rules does this commune have? i.e. what happens when someone gets out of line?

I've always been interested in projects like these. I'm currently seriously considering living out the open sea on a boat a few years down the road when work/time allows.

I think they have an area to grow food. I think I read that in the pdf he added above lol. It also has a little about rules and such.
But living on a boat would also be very cool! xD

Future fantasy is always great but at the moment we have a building and are willing to do something life changing, NOW......so of anyone wants to put their foot forward and get in contact then let me know.

Did  you miss the post where I clearly said internet is NOT a problem?
