Post by: ge0rgieee on May 25, 2012, 11:03:43 PM

I was also looking for one, I went with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131822

It has 4 slots, but I guess it's good enough. I also went with a 3770k.

that actually has 6 if you use risers but at $340 ouch! this will be just for mining with the absolute min power consumption (MB+CPU+MEM) hence the underclocked celeron. I dont need top of the line MB if it just for mining.

A quick search on Newegg gives me : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188098

Being an AMD fan, I would recommend:
5X PCIe 890FX Motherboard:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274 ($20 cheaper)
AMD Sempron 145 2.8GHz:     http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103888 (about the same price as your CPU)

Do you need full x16 slots, or do those x1 slots work for ya?

thats what I was looking for, you can fit 7 cards with riser like these http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-Ribbon-Extension-Extender-Adapter/dp/B006DQRUZ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1334429648&sr=1-1

The only problem with Z77 boards right now is that if you install a Sandy Bridge CPU the last PCIe slot will not work.  Until Intel comes out with an el cheapo Ivy Bridge CPU, your best bet if you wanted to use an Intel board is P67 or Z68.

ASRock Z68 Extreme4 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157250)
EVGA Z68 SLI (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188097) ← probably your best bet for maximum slots (three x16, three x1)

Other options if you can get them cheap:
Asus P8P67 PRO or EVO
Asus P8Z68-V or -V PRO

You still get 6 slots and if they are able to fix it down the road you get 7. Personally, I have 3 MSI H61m P21 boards with four slots each. Each one has a G440 and a mixture of ram. They can hold four cards each which, with any dual GPU is the limit anyways. The main benefit is I've bought them ranging from $45-59 brand new.
