Title: Bitcoin Adoption Rate
Post by: gilgil on May 27, 2012, 07:41:41 PM
Hi.

Been looking around and thought the thing I'm missing most at the moment is a web page with graphs measuring bitcoin adoption rate.

In my mind I see a page with unique user count, number of unique wallets, "bitcoin" word occurrences count in google search etc.

Above all of those graphs and indicators, I would love to see a percentage, where "100%" means everyone is using only bitcoins, "0%" means nobody ever heard about bitcoins, and I would guess we're now at somewhere around "5%" or so.

What do you think? Is there such a web page that I missed?

Probably 90% of the people I talk to every day use bitcoin in some way. Maybe I have a biased way of deciding who to talk to though.

Closest I can think of to what you need is this:

http://www.google.com/trends/?q=bitcoin

Although it's really not representative IMO since you can't see the recent growth in volume of just about every Bitcoin business anywhere on there.

You can see the recent growth in volume here:

That's the darndest thing about a pseudonymous digital currency.  There's really hardly any actionable data.

There might be some trends you can recognize from these sources though:

Guess what this graph looks like... (Even the y-scale!)

That's more the number of transactions... Maybe you mean this one:

Still, it doesn't factor in self wallet-to-wallet transfers and other artifacts...

- http://blockchain.info/charts is very good, but I find it hard to understand adoption rate from it
- http://bitcoinstatus.rowit.co.uk is too depressing. I don't like it.

The last couple made it to my bitcoin bookmarks :-)

I'd love to have the wikipedia stats for a longer period than a month, something similar to the google trends
