Not a 100% uptime, but I never had to wait for more than ~10 minutes for them to come back online. Also, for those who complain about lack of updates etc. - consider the trading volume and the trading fee they charge, then consider all the technical and administrative costs, legal fees, and losses due to scams: I am grateful to all the people who run exchanges at this early stage of Bitcoin. I just managed to l my log into my account without any problems. It was down for over an hour yesterday; however the site came back, the deposit was approved and I managed to complete all my trades yesterday with no problems. I also did get through and they promptly did resolve the problem with the delay in approving my deposit earlier in the day.
I would not consider it a "money loosing hobby" or a "highly profitable business" It is more like a small part time business getting off the ground and close to breaking even. I do agree it is hard to complain. In the future it is likely that these small glitches will be fixed the site will be up 24/7; however the cost to purchase a BTC can also be a lot lot higher. I will have to make sure to use it more often. And about the owners/managers of Virtex; they used to hang out at #bitcoin-cad using the handles of Grady2000 and virtex I believe. It's been a while since I've logged in there so I am not sure how it is now. Back then I remember people saying how easy it was to just pick up the phone and talk to Grady2000 if there were any concerns. I have never had to wait long for replies to any email I sent their way. Hell, they are even close enough to me that I could probably drive to Calgary and talk to them in person. Hmm, they should do something for the Calgary Stampede week this year.
