Title: Where can one spend small amounts of bitcoin?
Post by: kolinko on November 20, 2014, 11:33:30 AM
Hi, I'd like to make a list of things people can do with a small amount of Bitcoin (say $5 equiv. or less) - so I can forward the list to people I give tips to.

Things that came to my mind so far:
- charity (archive.org, xkcd, pirate bay)
- gamble away
- changetip et al
- fiverr
- speculate
- invest somehow (any bitcoin stock exchanges that are still operational after GLBSE)?

Any other ideas?

I think finding cheap physical items would mean a lot. To get something "real" with your bitcoin hammers home that it is actual money.

What can you buy and get shipped for < $5 ?? Answering that question for PayPal is fairly hard, too...

https://purse.io to spend on Amazon maybe? That's probably not simple though and not a good introduction to BTC.

As for buying physical stuff - I guess there should be some cheap chinese sites selling stuff with free shipping. Anyone knows any?

How about you donate some of that BTC to faucets? They are always running out of funds. When i started, they were a great way to understand BTC and great fun to see those small satoshi build up over time. You could also run some nice giveaways on here. I like doing small giveaways, you wont believe what some people will do for 0.0001 BTC!!

You could of course convert your BTC to some other alt coin like Reddcoin or Dogecoin (to get more bang for your buck, literally) and go on a nice big tipping spree on various chatrooms or reddit. I love doing stuff like that, it makes me feel warm and nice inside. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!  ;D

Wow, now that's a good idea. If these companies don't want to hold our bitcoin find someone else that will.

I like it.

Subscribed.... been wondering about this too.

Have a harebrained scheme for selling "couch change" amounts of bitcoin, for actual spare change. Probably more promotional than profitable, even with a margin that tends towards scalpy. Although for funding something like a PIA subscription monthly, it may be cheaper than cost to get fiat into exchange.

Coinbase just made a tipbot where you give people very small amounts of Bitcoin.  On their blog, they listed websites already using it, but I haven't tried it out yet.

I hope we will see some bitcoin only auction houses where you can buy all kind of (cheap) stuff from private individuals.

Just like eBay used to be in its infancy, before it followed the Amazon model.

That would be great.

Wow, Brawker seems like a great solution. I wonder if it's a unique thing.

Came upon this post with a few suggestions today (it has a couple of links there). http://blog.cex.io/bitcoin-talks/so-youve-got-your-first-bitcoins-now-what/

You can spend and also recieve payments for buying and selling second hand media like cds and dvds etc on computer exchange. Most of their cds are under £5 and have thousands for very cheap £1 and even under (but it's UK only I think).

Buy some promising altcoin and invest it, such as Dogecoins, Qora, Mintcoin etc. If you keep accumulating as much as possible, end up you will be suprised at how much you get and the increasing value of it.

Dogecoins are promising? You're probably more likely to lose money investing in crapcoins, especially once they get pumped and dumped and you're left holding the bag. I'd rather just hold the bitcoin no matter how little it is. I'm sure it will double or triple in value eventually.
