Title: Radeon 5850s Power Issue when using Molex 4pin (standard) to PCI-e 6pin adapter Post by: shat on May 18, 2011, 05:08:46 AM I've been testing some Radeon units and I noticed that when/if I have to use the Molex 4pin (standard molex power) connector adapter to 6PIN PCI-e connector.. the cards fan spins up and seems to run, but it never actually functions. I test all the cards in windows, just to see if they appear and I've noticed they don't show up.
Now, the PSU can handle it, tested on 1150W and a 650W, same scenario on 8 cards using 4 sets of those adapter cables that ship with retail packaging. With 1 5850 its pulling about 248W @ 2.02A @ 122.3V @ 60Hz Ideas? I'm out of pcie 6/8 pins from my power supply and may be getting another 5850 so I just want to know if I could use the molex to 6 pins adaptors :-) |
