Title: ASIC subforum in hardware
Post by: coretechs on June 23, 2012, 03:45:10 PM
The FPGA subforum is really cluttered with BFL / ASIC talk, perhaps it's time for an ASIC subforum?

Yes, it might be about time for that.

The problem is where to put the FPGA to ASIC upgrade posts. I'm all for keeping the forum neat nad tidy, but FPGA vs. ASIC doesn't seem to be a good distinction.

How about a BFL subforum? This would clearly corral most of the recent traffic with not much loss for everyone else. BFL devices are black boxes, so the actual technology inside is immaterial.

Good point. I guess it seems tidy enough to me to just put the upgrade posts in the ASIC category since they are switching to ASIC. One potential problem with a BFL subforum is that it might amount to a bit of free publicity/advertising for BFL, but maybe I'm off-base in thinking that. Frankly, I think its OK as-is, but I can understand that people who want to talk about FPGAs find it annoying to see all the BFL/ASIC chatter.

Same with me, I'm fine reading the recent BFL/ASIC chatter in whatever section it was originally posted.

Either a "Speculative Hardware" section or give fucking BFL its own subforum and move all the annoying posts.

Either a "Speculative Hardware" section
