Wat? Why?

Why not? The community of this coin isn't dead.

I don't understand why you switch the Algo at or after the end of the (profitable) PoW Phase, IIRC (If I Remember Correctly) the Block Reward is now 5 HAL per Block and was like > 250 HAL per Block when first mined, so with the new NeoScrypt Algo people would mine for 5 Coins a Block.

Don't you think any other feature would "push" the coin more other than switching the Algo ?

The PoW phase has been finished by block #20K originally. There is no pre-mine and no ICO, but what you say a profitable PoW phase is a well played instamine. I don't like 100% PoS coins and instamined releases when only insiders and a small number of outsiders are able to participate in highly profitable mining before it's over. Small reward without any time restrictions is much better.

Well, it's not my intention to play this coin for a good dump, but what features do you suggest to add?

This is a good indicator why this coin needs changes. I've done my part, the rest depends on community.

The plan #1 is not to fall dead. I don't want to decide on my own and take all responsibility. I don't even own any sizeable part of HAL. The community should contribute to the decision making process rather than waiting for another P&D. I'm listening.

First of all who are you? This is the second time I am asking and you don't seem willing to volunteer that information. Without that, there's no credibility whatsoever so why would the community support you? The coin is technically dead so any efforts to "revive" it is just an exercise in futility unless there's total transparency and a plan. A waste of time.

So lets start at the beginning or forget about the whole thing, who are you? Full name. Full transparency. Otherwise I am going to just assume you are just another scammer, maybe even Dan Metcalf himself.

Edit to add: Oh and it is IMPERATIVE, absolutely sine qua non, that the official thread of the new Halcyon be UNCENSORED. The opposite of this one, is that perfectly clear. Otherwise I reaffirm again: You are trying to scam people, no two-ways around it.

I don't think I owe you a detailed explanation of who I am. What really matters is that I can code and not interested in scamming. I also don't see a queue of developers volunteering to revive this coin, with a plan or without. Therefore the choice of a developer to support is rather simple. This coin is far from dead technically as I can see.

So lets start at the beginning or forget about the whole thing, who are you? Full name. Full transparency. Otherwise I am going to just assume you are just another scammer, maybe even Dan Metcalf himself.

If you've got a problem with Dan Metcalf, that's none of my business actually. Am I supposed to care what you assume to the greatest extent of your imagination? Make a try though, impress the audience how I'm going to scam them on this coin without access to any pre-mine, instamine, ICO, etc.?

This thread is self-moderated for the only reason of not allowing certain people to spam it or derail into nonsense.

Of course I have a problem with Metcalf: same I have with every mf scammer.

You dont owe me anything... unless you ask for my support. If you do, you owe me TOTAL transparency. Without community support, this dies. You think you will get it with your attitude?  By my guest.

If you are not here to scam why are you here, behind the mask? You can try bs in your answer but, again, good luch with that.

Like the bs -textbook raw, smoking, unadulterated- about the censored thread. Good luck with that too.

I wouldnt support you, under the circumstances, if my life would depend on it.

But good luck with that anyway.

You see two quite old coins in my signature under my development. I've also designed NeoScrypt. I don't think I'll make much money with HAL if any. The reason why I've fixed this coin because a community member has approached me with an offer. Accepted it because owed him a kind of favour. After all, I don't beg anyone to support me. You can stay with the old developer on the old chain or dump your coins now for nothing. That's a pretty clear alternative.

Mobile wallet is a good thing to have in general, but I think a working block explorer is more important. Have you noticed the previous developer has taken down his block explorer a week ago or so? I have also deployed a few seed nodes for HAL at my own expence to keep the network in one piece. It includes a master node for block checkpointing the previous developer never cared to set up. I don't see anyone saying thanks for this.

Market is a waste of time and money. My experience tells it's a sure failure for small volatile altcoins. If you want merchants, approach them one by one. You can also try to get signed by a payment processor like CoinPayments or LitePaid. The last news I've heard CoinPayments charges $250 for every 90 days of service. Any volunteers to pay this fee?

You simply don't get it. Can't get it. It's ok. You are going to need quite a bit of luck.

Repaying a sort of friend a sort of favor IS payment. For normal individuals.

I believe you are sort of normal, but can be quite wrong about that.

The whining on this forum is ridiculous.

This dev comes in to help with an altcoin that the old dev obviously gave up on and now you are trolling him and asking for him to give out personal info?

The nerve of you childish angry trolls.

Thanks for coming on board ghostlander. Ignore these idiots. Barabbas will never say anything nice to you so its best to just ignore him. He did it to the old dev too.

I am FULLY in support of a moderated forum and I think that the whimpering from some kids with nothing better to do than try and get a rise out of you should be deleted so you can keep the topic on track. This should be a place to show where we are with development. Not a constant back and forth with people who will never be cordial and post just to get attention.

Keep up the great work. I for one am very happy you're here and I am sure there are others just like me who are watching but just want to stay out of the troll shit storm.

It was me to ask Ghostlander. Let's suppose my interest in HAL is pure business as I'm a quite large bagholder for one reason or another. The previous dev failed miserably in his promises. I support the new dev and his fork with my holdings. FYI, I'm 70% of network stake weight now. I also don't give a shit what trolls say because I'm a troll myself when in a bad mood :)

Let's crank this mother up to 11

Dug through Jose's profile (or should I say Barabbas?)

Found this little interesting tid-bit from June (I've screenshotted it for posterity)

Now I know what you are thinking-- "So what, who cares? How is this relevant?"

Well a simple Google search of the zippercoin address reveals something even a little more interesting.

Whooooaaaaa is that our friend Barabbas? Can it be?

Scary, I know.

Seems like an out of work actor-- check out his wonderfully put together website (isn't the internet an amazing place?)

I am pasting this information to every thread Jose has posted in. It will take some time but I am

The new wallet combines/splits to keep inputs sized between 100 and 200 HAL. You can set your own limits with -stakecombine and -stakesplit. Given 300% yearly interest, 7.5 days coin age limit and 5 HAL per block maximum, it should be fine up to 500 HAL in general. Depends on staking activity though.

We have one pool at least. It's being finished now. Old coins are as good as new. PoW never ends, but you shouldn't worry much about it producing one block every 10 minutes.

Create a ticket there, maybe they're still on the old chain. They have been notified of a hard fork twice at least, but they are known for slow updates.

Create a ticket there, maybe they're still on the old chain. They have been notified of a hard fork twice at least, but they are known for slow updates.

ok thank ,you very much

I have been staking regular and everything is fine! Ghostlander, by chance is there a working block chain explorer? I put a ticket in to cryptsy for the missing deposit in my wallet and they say everything is right but I never received it and I cant find a working block explorer to track it down because the on on the wallet gives me weird data .

thanks so much for your help

He's a known scammer and fraudster as well as paid shill.

He has numerously posted peoples private information, and has harassed/fudded/stole/scammed numerous people. This is just a taste of his own medicine-- also just in case you think that, that might not be him, here's some additional proof (copy pasted from the BitBay thread.)

There was a bug in the hash caching code by block index which resulted in many of these errors in debug.log:

Code:
ERROR: GetKernelStakeModifier() : block not indexed

Fixed it and uploaded v1.1.0.1, please upgrade.

Regarding your Cryptsy transaction, it isn't in our block chain.

Code:
gettransaction dac1e447fb3e9397a3739e7f6dc6f9d1307c9d518a99c5f5bd26b3e3654ff2ed
No information available about transaction (code -5)

They are still on the old block chain.

If you check txid's of vin's they dumped, you see some of them are also not found and the others are prior to the NeoScrypt hard fork.

I have noticed some blocks delivering very little stake rewards. It appears there is a bug of the previous developer who has had copy-pasted some code without understanding. Bitcoin defines COIN as 100 million units (satoshis). HAL also follows this. However PPC, NVC and most other PoW/PoS coins define COIN as 1 million units. That's for a reason to avoid overflows.

Code:
static const int64_t COIN = 100000000;
static const int64_t CENT = 1000000;

int64_t nRewardCoinYear = 300 * CENT;

nSubsidy = (nCoinAge * nRewardCoinYear) / (365 * COIN);

While 64-bit unsigned integer allows for very large numbers (2 ^ 64 = 18446744073709551616), it may be not enough for the code above. Here is a real example from the HAL block chain.

Code:
in  158.52232967
out 158.52752437
coin age nValueIn=15852232967 nTimeDiff=335481 nCentSecond=5318122968
coin age nCoinAge=61552349166

nCoinAge * nRewardCoinYear = 61552349166 * 300000000 = 18465704749800000000

Incorrect subsidy is (18465704749800000000 - 18446744073709551616) / (365 * 100000000) =
519470 satoshis or 0.0051947 HAL

Correct subsidy is 18465704749800000000 / (365 * 100000000) =
505909719 satoshis or 5.05909719 HAL

It gets limited to 5 HAL on the next step. So, I've modified the reward calculation code to make sure it never overflows.

Code:
nSubsidy = (nCoinAge / 365) * (nRewardCoinYear / COIN);

Works fine for HAL since the current and future interest rates are multiples of 100% which is COIN.

Please upgrade to HAL v1.1.0.2.

Think of coin days (weight) rather than coins alone. 300% per year is 0.82% per day. 5 HAL can be earned in 1 day by 610 HAL input, in 2 days by 305 HAL, etc. Of course, if it's lucky enough because stake generation is a random process like any kind of mining.

Don't you think any other feature would "push" the coin more other than switching the Algo ?

couldnt agree more with ocminer <3

Look at your debug.log for the answer. I have synced HAL clients from scratch many times without any trouble. If you use dynamic IPs, you may need to restart your wallet to detect an IP change, re-establish addnode'd connections and re-register with the IRC.

Come on, this so called profitable PoW phase was a well played instamine. Even though it was better than a pre-mine or ICO, it was no way a fair distribution. Now it's fair to mine and earn decent interest.

Thanks Richie.

Although I'm very pleased with the DNB pool, would be good to get another one running for redundancy.

Generated coins must mature 60 blocks before they can be spent. When you generated this block, it was broadcast to the network to be added to the block chain. If it fails to get into the chain, its state will change to "not accepted" and it won't be spendable. This may occasionally happen if another node generates a block within a few seconds of yours

I genereted 4 blocks 2 of them were not accepted. ???

It happens. Someone was faster than you in generating and broadcasting these blocks. These 2 inputs will generate blocks later with a higher reward due to coin age accumulation.

hi, all is well except for the most part...... HAHAHAHAHA
still no worrd from cryptsy sending the over 500 HAL on the wrong blockchain, i guess they have to manually create these coins because its from dic 20 that they still havent sent them...
staking is going well except that well over 50 percent of my generated blocks  never get accepted in the blockchain.
i hope no one else is having these problems......
also my connections are very low as i have only one solid connection  and at times it will go up to 2 but  only short moments when it will hit 3 or 4 and as soon as i see ti its gone again...
i am using this as my  conf file

Make sure you have port 21108 open on your router and forwarded properly to your machine, your wallet not blocked by a local firewall in case you use Windows, and UPnP port mapping disabled because of no need. If you use dynamic IPs with an unreliable ADSL breaking connection here and there, it's going to be a problem.

Any undergoing development or future planning for halcyon?

What do you suggest? Considering no one ever donated a single HAL towards the development or infrastructure maintenance.

The 1st one is correct. The 2nd one runs v1.1.0.0 and cannot keep up with the current v1.1.0.2.

Since your coins are still in their wallet, you can ask Cryptsy to resend these transactions or credit the total amount back to your balance.

These transactions found on the invalid chain are non-existent on the correct chain. Therefore the coins haven't gone anywhere. They are still in their wallet after getting updated to v1.1.0.2 and rescanned.

Well, Cryptsy runs over 200 coin daemons currently and that's quite many. I guess they have maybe a few staff members with access to hot and cold wallets. It's conceivable they cannot update them in time. Everything was much faster when Cryptsy had been just started and there were maybe 20 coins listed. One thing I'm sure they're not going to scam anyone of their coins.

Considering the network stake weight has tripled this month, it seems there are more people staking HAL than keeping them on exchanges or in offline wallets. That's good actually. However it doesn't help with meeting the daily volume of 0.2 BTC Bittrex wants. If they delist HAL, well, Cryptsy gets more volume. There will be other exchanges once HAL matures and the whole crypto world recovers from the current depression.

If they are already locked in a stake block they will not be affected. It could prevent you from minting any new ones while its running though. although unlikely as it shouldnt take very long with an average size wallet

You can check with the start of block hash in bold to see it isn't in the main chain. My block explorer doesn't display orphan blocks currently. Therefore nothing to worry about.

I also see the current implementation of RPC repairwallet doesn't remove orphan (failed, conflicted) transactions from the wallet. I guess the previous developer didn't care about it. Will be fixed in the next release.

Just a reminder: a Neoscrypt CCminer is underdevelopment for Nvidia GPUs like 750TI

The Block Factory Neoscrypt mining pools using 128Diff is achieving 150khs per 750TI GPU as an example.

Early access is avaliable for BTC pledges, very low pledge level. Crowdfunding campaign is nearly finished.

Personal Message djm34 for pledges to gain early access.

Apart of small improvements, the plan is to add support for the stealth transactions.

The network works fine, but HAL needs more practical use. Spread the word, convince merchants and gambling sites to work with HAL.

They split if above 200 HAL and combine if below 100 HAL. You can set your own thresholds by using -stakesplit and -stakecombine

Like any other PoW coin, but with a NeoScrypt capable miner. There are many guides out there. Set up halcyon.conf with rpcuser and rpcpassword, direct your miner to localhost:21109

True. Also can't make miner mining - it tries to connect to the wallet but after some time crashes.

My conf file:

Don't play with big boys if you can't afford to lose your pocket money. HAL works fine and fair now. PoS interest will decrease to 200% in less than 10k blocks.

we have one now.

I've been reading about HAL and watching it on the exchanges and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it? I downloaded the wallet and it synched within 2 hours, very smooth without any hiccups. CPU and memory usage also quite low so i have no problems with keeping it open 24/7 like my other stake wallets.

as for the dev, he seems quite active and a knowledgeable coder, so imo he's doing his part for this coin, the development part. Now its time for the community to do its part (like mentioned by a few others in this thread) so how can we do that? what do we want? post your ideas and lets see what we can achieve!

i bought a domain and will put a community site and forum on there. if anyone has some designing or writing skills and would like to help out with the site please let me know. i will also get a faucet for HAL and contact some merchants. we are all pioneers in this new and exciting world of crypto, lets work together and make it count!

By the way, Halcyon has switched to 200% PoS interest yesterday at block 290K, though it makes a little difference to those who are staking. The whole network weight is over 5 million now. It means they are very likely to hit the reward limit of 5 HAL per block either at 300% or 200%.

hmm i added 2  big blocks a few days but sadly they both orphaned. i'll try making a bunch of 200 blocks and see how that goes. would be nice to have a blocksplit feature for this. e.g i send 10k HAL to my wallet and use a feature to split that in blocks of 200 to stake.

Bittrex about HAL: This market is in danger of de-listing due to low trade volume and lack of user interest. It may be removed on July 17th unless the average daily trade volume for the last 7 days exceeds 0.2 BTC.

We should come up with a list of objectives to get peoples attention back onto Halcyon, you know some things we can accomplish as a community to help out ghost and ph4nt0m as they seem to be the biggest contributors now.

This coin looks primed to regain value. Since it is still up and running after the original dev fucked us people will see that Halcyon has a strong community. Its just a waiting game now boys.

Waiting for what? So all of a sudden people from BTCTalk is going to think "oh, here;s HAL that now has a working developer and is cheap, lets buy this thing up because some suckers will come in if enough volume and volatility is created"? That would require a rather strong pump group to come in and my bet is it will never happen. Otherwise, what is it that HAL offers that other 100 coins do that could entice new buyers, even assuming that with a few posts in this thread they would be able to discover that this is not a totally dead coin? I thought so.

Without anything that can be promoted and have some attraction for users/buyers, it is going to do absolutely nothing but languish on way to extinction. Like it has for months, in spite of an obvious working dev.

The dev isn't going to work his ass off on HAL if the major investors show little or no support. A priority list and some marketing are needed anyway because most people have no idea what HAL is and where it's going.

You mention "nice features" above. Such as which? And why would "the major investors" (meaning those with the most semi-worthless coins?) put money in supporting the dev?
I mean, of course, if the value of the coin would go higher, they would benefit, of course but are there even remotely enough such "major investors" capable of producing the dough and willing to "support the dev" in an revamp, so to speak with somewhat dubious potential results? Won't the believe their money will much more profitable elsewhere?
I guess it all comes down to what those "nice features" are.

Those who support the dev can request any features they think appropriate for the coin and get any insider info. That's like a board of directors. No one wants to work for free while the others make profits using his work. This is why there are so many abandoned coins.

Someone/people have been buying these coins, so they're going somewhere to someone who has interest in halcyon. Its a good sign to me. I think the most important thing to do right now is to try and inform the crypto community that halcyon has been revived. On bittrex there is only ~14BTC of resistance to 10k sats. To split into x blocks is done in a few seconds and you get all your coins in one single address. To split them manually is way to much work and it takes to long time no matter how many adresses you split the coins to. There is probably no reason to spend any time upgrading this coin, but that upgrade would make it a lot easier and maybe attract some new stakers.

more active people which bring a Coin ahead, spread! Increase the value of the coins! like BTC

The will of some here seem to be present! They impose their will not only into action! This is psychological, because the prospects are not as good, so they ask the question, is it worth the effort?
I try this in ORB for more than a year! There are few active people! Also in ORB!
So I think if the chances / prospects would be better, the willing members in HAL would be active! Only then in ORB!

How can you remove orphans from the transaction log?

In the newest paycon wallet there is a button in the meny: tools -> repair wallet, that removes them. But the repair wallet command don't remove orphans in halcyon.

Any estimates on what the annual POS rate actually is now?

In my last 50 blocks 77% have been capped at 5 coins.

wait for update, ghost the dev, has this feature in ORB since 12/2014 too, so i believe

the problem off this wallet is,

sometime, will staked block no longer transmitted to the network, even though I have permante nodes!

This happens by accident, sometimes it works without error 24 and sometimes I have to restart every few hours

they do not transfer block, remain in your wallet as an orphan.

Orphan blocks which have been repudiated by the network, they disappear after restart

My understanding is it is 200% interest up to a certain amount, which is 5 HAL. In order to optimize your staking you should be staking different sets of 100 HAL. So if you have 1000 HAL set it to stake sets of 100 HAL 10 times because 100 HAL inputs will give you 5 HAL interest the most amount of times.

It's also crazy how little resistance HAL has to more value. It doesn't even take an entire 1 BTC to make the market go x4 and I remember when we were listed on Bittrex that the resistance to 10k sats was also incredibly low.

I split the coins in blocks of 200. When they stake, sometimes they get split into two blocks of 102,5 (or 101,6486168 if it dont hit stake cap).  But sometimes they don't split and i get blocks of 205 coins. Why is this?

Is 100 the optimal block size now as griffen1102 suggest?

Blocks around 100 never splits btw.

I thought a bit more about the real POS rate.

Total coin supply is now: 2.330.801

Maximum POS coins created in 1 year: 1.051.200
(60/2,5)*24*365*5=

Potential maximum pos % : 45,1%

But the average pos block reward is less then 5 coins and this brings the true pos rate even lower. If we do the same calculation with an avarage block reward of 4 coins instead of 5 ( this is probably more accurate), the yearly POS is only 36%.

To sum up:

It is really misleading to call this a coin with 200% pos when the actual pos return is around 36%. Of course, if you catch a block below 5 coins and you do this every time, you will get 200%, but that is not possible. On the other hand. Many people don't mint at all, so the actual POS rate for those who actually mint is much higher then 36%.

I would vote for a block size increase to meet the average pos reward of 200%. High pos coins are really popular now, and the coin supply is low. This would bring more interest and higher coins supply at the exchange.

And wouldn't that be a scam, in fact? Because if you go for what is popular -but unsustainable-, that's the anatomy of a scam, isn't it? Any and all treatments in economy that I have read, point out to the fact that any currency, crypto or otherwise, with a rate of inflation beyond 2-3% is actually  non viable. The whole crypto movement is, in big part, an answer to the depreciation of FIAT which has lost 96% of it's value in the last 100 or so years. And it's average of inflation has been quite low, in fact (that's why it has taken so long to lose value).

So yes, high (or hyper, as they are called) POS coins are popular right now. But they are all scams. All. Non-viable vehicles created with the sole purpose of getting money from the greedy "investors" blinded by the high staking... while the right people dump on them "responsibly" (what a term, ah?). Is that what you want this project to be? At this stage, it may very well be a scam worth trying to make some money out of an investment obviously gone bad, but "we" don't want to be scammers outright, do we?

I can't agree. More coins just means lower value.
Look at PHS. 50% POS, valuable and enduring.
With it's fundamentals, this coin should be worth a lot more than it is. Something like ORB. I've bought a bunch of HAL and I'm sure it will reward me. All it needs is some advertising. And maybe change the OP to "up to 200%".
Coins that tend to survive are honest, stable, and have dedicated devs and communities. Changing protocol willy-nilly will only chase away serious investors. JMHO.

I really don't understand what you are trying to say. The inflation % (in a POS only coin) dont really matter. If it is 2%, 36% or 200% and you own 1% of the supply, you will have that same 1% of the supply as long as you help secure the network.

If the coin was to become a common means of exchange, it would have been optimal with a fixed price pegged to a fiat currency, and the inflation would then have to be the same as the fiat currency. But on the other hand, bitcoin is a great mean of exchange without a pegged price thanks to the payment processors.

I don't know what you define as a scam. I look at most coins as pure scams. But changing the pos percentage would not make this any more or any less of a scam, since it would not benefit some on the cost of others. All would keep their share, and that share would not change no matter what the pos percentage is.

The goal should be to improve the hashrate, both pos and pow, to improve the security of the blockchain. Higher demand for the coin and higher price, whatever comes first, would achive that.

There is no minimum. However smaller inputs are more likely to get stuck without staking due to a 7.5 day age limit.

The reward rate will decrease to 100% as scheduled by block #420K which comes in 5 months or so. It will stay at this nominal rate forever. The actual reward may be lower depending on difficulty and luck. It's a fair play.

We may have a communication problem because I don't understand you either and what I do understand, doesn't make sense, to me, at all. Lets see: Phantom owns at least 70% of the total coins currently in circulation -I'm sure quite a bit more than that since he stated that a long time ago and he for sure has been staking tens of thousands of coins-. Who do you think stakes -and would stake- the vast majority of coins if your suggestion was to be accepted? See, the ONLY reason why not a single coin that is overtaken by a community has been or will ever be successful, is that the only reason for the "take over" y to try and protect the interests of those bagholders who own the majority of the coin. So, in fact, every attempted "revival" of a coin is, in fact, the launching of a new coin... only with massive pre-mine. Except that that pre-mine is called "big bagholders" but it amounts to the same thing. A project without more or less KNOWN fair distribution, cannot possibly be actually successful -the incredible NEXT being the exception, and only partially so since, given the qualities and potential of the project, it should be worth 10 times more, at least, that its current market cap and the only thing impeding it is that "distribution problem" that it has.

No one with a minimum common sense will ever buy this coin, no matter how big or small the staking or the mining. With only a 10% of his holdings, Phantom could manipulate it to have a price near zero, imagine if it would reach a decent enough price, what he could do at will with it. People has learned no not put any money in project where they could lose it all at the whim of one of a few owners. That's why take-overs are never successful. And that's why this project, otherwise technically as viable as many other with a much higher market cap, will continue going to the ground inevitably.

I agree in everything you say, but a higher pos % would not really change much. A higher pos % would lead to more coins on the exchange and in the long run a better distribution. But if phantom owns more then 50% of the supply, this coin is doomed to fail no matter what, unless he spread  the "wealth" and reduces his holdings. Selling cheap (sell walls at market price), giving awy bounties etc.

Halcyons market cap is now $4908. But the real value of halcyon is much lower and equal to the combined buy orders. Halcyons true value is at this time is 0,3325 btc, or $93,1.

One more point when you talk about unfair distributions. One of the worst distributed coins ever, dashcoin, is nr. 4 on coinmarketcap. Dashcoin was extremly instamined, and right after the instamine the block rewards and total coins was reduced dramatically. They have even changed the name of the coin 3 times and people still buy into that scam. Everything is apparantly possible. :)

The only thing that would boost the value of HAL, immediately, would be you reducing your holdings to 20% max. and distributing the rest to all the rest of the wallets having 1,000 HAL or more. Noting else will save this coin.

I know, like fayoling, you will not do it, so look at the future revisiting what happened to SeedCoin.

Halcyons market cap is now $4908. But the real value of halcyon is much lower and equal to the combined buy orders. Halcyons true value is at this time is 0,3325 btc, or $93,1.

So if I put a 10 BTC buy order at 100 sats or even lower, it will boost the real value of HAL? You gotta be kidding me.

Moving coins from one wallet to another never boosts any value. There are many things which can improve this coin and giving away large amounts of coins isn't one of them. Those who get them will dump immediately without giving it a second thought. OTOH if every holder donates a share of his holdings or its value in BTC to the dev, it will motivate him very much in making HAL a success. Something tells me it won't happen. Talks are cheap. Barabbas, how much did you donate towards the development? Maybe contributed in other sizeable ways personally? Nothing, right?

It would. Current "moneysupply" : 2336535

Buy orders on cryptsy are now for a total amount of 1193511.026 and 0.17341139 btc.

If you put a 10 btc buy order at 100 sats it would create a floor price of 100 satoshi and a exit point for every hal. It would actually be enough with a 2,29 btc buy order. And the total value of hal would increase to 2,41 btc.

Edit: One more observation. There is very little hal for sale. Up to 3795 satoshi (the 100 visible sell orders at cryptsy)  there is only 34410 coins for sale for a total of 0.495 btc. So 0.495 btc would actually bring the price up 732%.

I knew and so posted, that you would not do it. OK by me. your 70% is worth absolutely nothing, no matter what you give to the dev, no matter if you put bells and a huge ribbon in it. Value: a big, fat ZERO.

On the other hand, I guarantee you that, without anything else -and there would be a lot to talk about in terms of ideas and projects-, if you give away over 2/3s of what you own, the rest, still above 20% of all HAL, will be worth SOMETHING. Something significant. Guaranteed. In any case, not much cost in putting it to a test, is there? If you are right and I am wrong, you still will have nothing in value, the same big, fat ZERO. If, on the other hand, I am right -and I know I am-, your 20% would be worth a very significant amount of money. That is with the dev not doing nothing. If the dev receives, as logically he will, the corresponding part of those 2/3s you give away, he will also make money and would be considerably more interested than he can possibly be now.

Please don't take this as intent on my part to convince you. I know better. By experience. Greed, in itself, is blind and quite stupid. In all cases. I gave you a clear exaMPLE OF A COIN DESTROYED BY THE GREED OF FAYOLING,  a great project once still tainted by him. He sunk SEED, precisely for the same situation we have here and let me tell you he was more than motivated to make it successful. And he can code. And has collaborators who bring features of all kinds to the table -even clumsy trading bots-. So I know you wont do it and will have this ultimately completely dead, as it is already, therefore not trying to convoince you of anything.

For added information, I don't even look at the price of this any longer for I know it isn't true for if you were trying to sell any amount you wouldn't get even the 1,000 sat. I wrote it out as a total loss long time ago. I just remember that, when I first invested in this project, it was a very promising one and was able, and lucky enough, to get out on time, without much damage for the most part, so why would I be interested in HAL -or anyone, for that matter-, when the value of this is nil and we could invest, donate of otherwise engage on other promoting activities, in dozens of other projects with fair distribution and not one individual holding 80% of it? It would be absurd, wouldn't it?

Almost as absurd as donating EVEN is Vitalik were to take in this coin as active, lead developer. Halcyon is very much dead, and you, dear boy, are the only remaining reason for it.

Dude, I had maybe 10% when the previous dev left and about 20% now thru staking and occasional buying. I said it earlier that I'm not the largest HAL whale, but you stick to this 70% bullshit. I could also write my bag off a long time ago, but I'll better give it a spin because it's still a good coin speaking technically. The fact you didn't make a single contribution to HAL after the takeover tells the real story. You are here to make rants rather than help.

The way people trade alts not is by setting low buys in markets where the sheep haven't checked yet because volume is relatively low all around. Accum. and once the numbers are right then the price flys. As long as we're still active and support ghost then it will happen. Ive been saying it our market is primed right now because we have low total supply and people have been dumping decent amounts of coins into someones pockets at these low prices.

You are probably viewing the old Halcyon thread which was a Metcalf scam, this thread is the community takeover revitalized Halcyon with a new algo and ghostlander is the current dev. In fact is there someone we could talk to about locking the old thread?

If you're asking about the development, watch my GitHub.

BTW, is there any demand for an IRC client integration into the wallet?

I think that would be a good idea. It would give the people here a more direct channel to chat instead of the forums.

Forums are better because they're visible to everyone. Make it easy for outsiders to evaluate community size and activity level, to report issues and solve them, etc. IRC is just for talks.

They also have too many shitcoins listed. I mean those abandoned by the devs ages ago. You can hardly find any full nodes or block explorers for them yet they are still traded there and pumped/dumped occasionally. OTOH there are Trex and Cex who list/delist dozens of coins every month no matter if these are maintained or abandoned.

The only problem I have with it is discouraging withdrawals while dropping trading fees. They now charge 0.5% of your funds when processing withdrawals. I guess that the reason behind removing the fees is that they can invite manipulators and create fake volume. It happened with bittrex where coin had thousands of btc's in volume (with very few btc's support in buy/sell books) thanks to a few ppl. This exchange is about to die just like bittrex did.

Thanks, it's valid. Every donation coming in gets staked there.

About stealth transactions in HAL. Are they needed really? There was a proprietary HAL wallet for these once upon a time. This is an old story. Dan Metcalf added support for these anonymous transactions using his XC code, advertised it to be reviewed and working properly, so Prometheus could pump HAL to 50K sats. Of course, this code has been never open sourced. SX may be added in several ways, but the most practical are either dual key addresses with ring signatures as implemented in DarkWallet and SDC, or a more complicated solution with master nodes like in Dash. Zerocash doesn't seem optimal. If there are other competitive designs, I'm all ears.

Does anyone else need it?

There are another thing up to debate. Our PoW mining seems weak. There are just a few miners on our pool and about as many solo miners. The network hash rate is a matter of a few hundred KH/s at the best. Other NeoScrypt powered coins such as PXC and ORB operate with ~5 MB/s each. FTC is moving ~100 MB/s at this moment. The proposal is to implement merge mining with FTC on the PoW part. Our PoS part remains independent. Merge mining with FTC allows us to secure the network much better and to improve relations between our communities.

The max PoS reward is 5 HAL. I think those defaults set in the code work just fine.

In my opinion the technical details of this coin and wallet are not understood. If a visual of how the PoW and PoS work, would be very beneficial in understanding what this coin really has to offer. An example of a visual that I can think of is the Diamond coin. I have been experimenting with different things and still have some questions about PoS:
  • What is the minimum number of coins needed to Mint?
  • What is the maximum number of coins in the wallet that is needed to Mint the maximum number coins efficiently?
  • What does the maximum number of days (7.5) really mean?
  • Should the coins be cycled out and back into the wallet after 7.5 days so the Minting process will start again or can the coins be left in the wallet and the Minting will continue?

These are some questions that I have, which may have been answered elsewhere, but I just haven't found the answer.

This coin is mechanized to be an awesome investment coin if properly marketed and properly invested. Where else in the world is it possible to have 100% reinvest on a current investment?
This wallet transfers funds very fast.

In my opinion if this coin had an iOS and Android wallet (similar to the Bread wallet) this would also attract more users.

Some areas of usage that are possible for use would be with in game money similar to the DigiByte coin and the game League of Legends. I think other types of games might be able to use this technology. In my opinion gearing the coin towards gambling is not the best choice.

A marketing campaign might be instrumental in spreading the word and hopefully this provides some ideas that might improve the usage of this coin.

AFAIR there is no minimum or maximum, it all depends on difficulty and pure luck. For example, I solo mined a bunch of inputs 5 HAL each and left them in my wallet. I was kinda surprised to see them staking. If one hits a stake, it gets joined by 9 similarly sized inputs and a small interest like 1 HAL due to low weight producing an output of 51 HAL or something. So yeah, staking works even for small coins.

Weight stops increasing after 7.5 days. The coins just keep going with the max accumulated age until they stake.

I think some coins can be donated to gamers. I'm just not sure how to manage this process.

I agree with this but really where do we start?

I am not sure where to start either!  ???

-- A dedicated website and possibly an official pool might be a starting point. (This does come with some cost and determining how to finance this might be a challenge unless someone knows of a web hosting site that might be interested in sponsoring Halcyon!  :))
-- A Facebook and Twitter account for it might exist, but I don't know about that. (Maybe need to add a link for these)
-- A marketing strategy concentrating on the investment potential (I have a wallet that is staking well) at a return of about 15% annual return in the wallet, not in trading.
-- It might be cool if an article on Halcyon could be written on https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com that provides a history of the coin, explains the algorithm Neoscrypt, and explains the advantage of POW and POS. (This might be a good advertisement for Orbitcoin, Feathercoin, and Phoenixcoin as well!)

I am willing to assist if needed and if others are interested in promoting Halcyon.

Thanks that does provide some insight!

In my current wallet I have not split anything up and have coin control in automatic. Would it be better to manually control the coins to get better staking output?
I am currently getting 1 accepted stake for 5 coins each day for about 1825 or 18% annual return.  :o
I have over 10,000 coins in the wallet, so to get 100% PoS does that mean I should be staking ~27 coins each day?
I realize there is a lot of luck involved, but just trying to improve my probability of getting the maximum possible stake per day.

Thanks again!  :)

100% PoS APR is the theoretical limit, your actual one will be lower. It depends by how much. I think those thresholds enabled by default in the wallet are fine (split if over 200 HAL, combine if below 100 HAL), however feel free to experiment with -stakesplit and -stakecombine.

There are links to our Twitter and Facebook in the OP, though there isn't much activity. No Reddit or Google+ currently. If anyone wants to take care of the Halcyon social media, I can give all necessary access rights. Just ask.

I can also put up a simple web site and host it, though we have yet to get a decent domain name.

It might be an idea for the near future to look into getting this coin launched onto another exchange just because with all the Cryptsy drama and what not I don't like how that's the only place where you can trade Halcyon right now :) Just saying......

NSGminer v0.9.1 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=712650.0) released with my NeoScrypt OpenCL kernel v6. Should be compatible with the latest AMD Catalyst drivers. Also delivers a little performance improvement over the previous release.

So, what's about my proposal for merged mining with FTC? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=895829.msg13212367#msg13212367

Shall we or not? We can also go for more radical measures like a complete rebase to a new platform with Turing complete smart contracts and other good things. It will take more time and may require coin exchange between the current and new block chains.

It looks like everything is fine, shows connections, shows up to date, staking green. If I send something to it after a couple days, sometimes weeks, it doesn't show up. I restart it and it starts catching up on blockchain and I'm good to go again, for awhile anyway. This on windows 7, I may be changing to Linux in a few days so that may fix my problem.

Well, there was a new exchange announced on the previous page (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=895829.msg13653577#msg13653577), but it seems to be offline more time than online. No doubt a more reliable trade platform is needed.

they dont bother ...

they pick and choose as they please - with no response to whether they have even read you comments or emails ...

nice exchange - but that is the last thing you need when an issue arises - and the owners of the exchange dont bother responding to you ...

there are many other decent exchanges out there ...

Seems like the best thing to do would be to put it all on as soon as DOT voting opens again, or some point where the DOT vote has been reset, to discourage any other coin from a competition. If HAL came out strong maybe other communities would have the same thoughts we're having now.

There's really not many exchanges with a decent alt-coin volume. It's slim picking these days. I even started my own crypto community in an effort to rally everyone together in a single place.

There is also community voting at Cryptopia. Users can vote for HAL every day. It's definitely doable this way with active community participation.

Just curious is your site built using phpfox?

Not a bad way to go and it has tons of features.

This needs to be taken seriously if HAL is ever to be something again. We have to niche community and now we need the exchange. HAL only has 3 votes right now and I know we can do wayyy better than that.

I can put up 200k DOT to get HAL listed by Cryptopia. If a few more ppl contribute as much as they can, we can get it done.

NeoScrypt CPUminer v2.4.3 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=712650.msg14253411#msg14253411) is available. Upgrade advised.

I also keep exploring various options for the further Halcyon development. It's a set back that Cryptsy keeps many coins hostage for 2 months and counting, but we have to continue.

Hi,

Since ILoveYouCoins(ILY) was rejected due to a ~50% premine the next in the list will be added for this weeks vote

So we are now compiling HAL and it will be live on Cryptopia today :)

Yeah we have pretty strict rules around premines and ICO's

But we are all human so sometimes a coin like that sneaks past the review process, but it was caught before it was added.

Now that we have an exchange, we need to start thinking about what is next for Halcyon. The exchange is useless if no one knows about us. I think the best ways to grab peoples attention at this point would be some good development. Any thoughts?

I can fork Ethereum, add NeoScrypt there, tune it up and start right with the Homestead. This way we get a very powerful smart contracts engine at the very least. All coins of the current chain will be exchanged 1:1 on the new chain. To keep Halcyon fair, there will be no pre-mine other than what's needed for the coin exchange.

I have some current commitments to ORB and PXC, also don't want to rush an untested release, so a month probably. There will be a period of time when both networks operate independently of each other to allow the coin exchange.

You can now mine Halcyon at http://www.zpool.ca using many algo's (like Scrypt, NeoScrypt, Sha256 and many more)

Example: -o stratum+tcp://mine.zpool.ca:PORT -u WALLET_ADDRESS -p whateveryouwant c=HAL

WALLET_ADDRESS=your HAL wallet address.

PORT: different port for every algo, you can find these at zpool.

 :)

Hey all,

Any update on the new release yet?

I was told the dev is busy with his real job. That's why the new release is delayed. Maybe he looks into adding some kind of PoS because Halcyon is mostly PoS and Ethereum is pure PoW now.

I must add all this mess around ETH DAO and their hard fork doesn't look very good.

dead? haha nooo! John is working on ORB the most of time, but it should be no problem to implement features in HAL later.

John has a normal job and works in his freetime on the coins. You just have to be patient and support him and the Coin. That's all.
Look ORB and the price development of the last 3 years.

Many people want to make money fast, just so this does not really, ORB and HAL are slow no gamblers coins more, special real investment for a long time! Like shares on stockmarket and other things

Not really that. Just want to know if HAL is still adopting to ethereum before the POS or after? or if that idea has passed now. I do have a few HAL but not more than a handful. I occasionally check in to threads of all coins I hold just to get updated on the progress.
Orb is not one I follow after all the fuss in the past with it.

I have been very busy lately due to real life circumstances, but HAL will be switched to a new chain sooner or later. It's a matter of time for me to finalise the list of things to do. I'd like HAL to remain a PoW / PoS hybrid, but it depends on the new code base. Whatever happens, I'll post to this thread.

If you want to be successful in life, you should hang around with successful people. Sometimes it rubs off. :D Before ghostlander spends countless hours with coding gymnastics, I値l ask the community to consider an alternative.

First, I must admit I知 an Ethereum investor. I think it痴 a great project, the technology ground breaking, and its potential unlimited. That said, I think we should hitch our wagon to this project. I propose rewriting Halcyon as a DApp and make HAL an Ethereum compatible token. That way, we still have autonomy yet enjoy compatibility with and the security of the Ethereum blockchain. We値l have access to much more technology and visibility to other Dapp developers and investors within the ecosystem. If nothing else, we値l have the distinction of being the first existing coin ported to the Ethereum blockchain.

Technically I don't know if this can be done. But I'd like to hear what you all think.

What's the point of making Halcyon a token on the Eth chain? Is there any particular purpose? Who will be interested in it?

My thought process is that if nothing is done, this project will fade into irrelevance like so many other POS coins of late.

Blockchain tech is moving quite briskly now, and it's difficult for a small project like this to keep up. The POS rewards are good here and the wallet solid. But I don't believe this is enough to sustain holders, attract new investment, or support the price long term. Joining a platform like Ethereum is no guarantee of success for sure, but it would give this project access to a lot of tech, developers and investors, and better long-term prospects in my opinion. Just my thoughts.

Edit: Last trade was on Cryptopia 28/01/2017 10:27:11 PM @ 190 sats. That's depressing volume, to say the least. I couldn't dump my bags if I wanted to. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but things don't look good around here. Adopting Casper might inject some life into this project, enough to perhaps cash out with some profit, but it won't last for long. I've been down this road a few times.

The whole crypto scene is about to be shaken up significantly. Bitcoin is headed for a contentious, political split. This may weaken confidence in the coin and its future. Smart money will move to projects with teams of developers, promising technology and innovations, and future growth potential. That will leave the many bitcoin clones to just languish into obscurity.

If the developer is willing to integrate Ethereum features into HAL, why not just go the distance and make it an erc20 token and enjoy all the benefits of the ecosystem. Who will be interested in it? Anyone that has significant amounts of HAL and would like to preserve and grow their investment.

These are probably my last words on the subject. Good luck to everyone.

Depends on the skill and dedication of the developer.
I think ghostlander has plenty of skill but has a few projects to spread himself over and not enough time. This probably means these projects are not going anywhere hence why their mc is tiny.
This is the thing with alts. They can stay tiny and vanish or make a huge comeback. The only person who knows the destiny of this and pheonix is ghostlander.

I will hold my tiny bags of each and wait it out. If they die they die.

If I wanted HAL and PXC die, I would have just shut down my nodes a long time ago instead of paying for their hosting every year. I've spent more cash than I've ever gained from these projects to this date.

I miss HAL at coinmarketcap

HAL was removed from CoinMarketCap when Cryptsy died and there was no other place to trade. It's on Cryptopia now, they have an API, so there should be no problem in adding it back.

There are only those pools stated in the OP. Solo mining also works very well.

looks like DNB.io hal pool doesnt work =\

can you explain how to enable solo mining?

Create halcyon.conf as suggested in the OP and README.txt with your rpcuser and rpcpassword, launch your wallet and point your miner to port 21109 (default for rpcport). If you want to mine with multiple miners over the LAN, add rpcallowip=192.168.0.* or something like.
