Aricoin is one of the oldest, true to source networks still (just about) running today. Aricoin is based on Litecoin v0.8.0 (https://‬github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/tree/v0.8.0) released in early 2013. Aricoin was originally launched as OlympicCoin (OLY)  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=453085.0) on Feb 7th, 2014 to celebrate the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics. After the event, the original team later planned a rebranded with the help of an exchange in 2014 in order to facilitate development of our tipping platform that reached 100,000 signups, unfortunately the exchange partnership didn't work out due to an alleged hack and most of our users and original project developers lost everything. This is when Aricoin fell into the hands of the bitcointalk community (yes, that's you reading this so you're obligated to help)...

It's in this time of need, Aricoin is continuing that call to the bitcointalk community to help keep our network and development alive as one of the first 100 altcoins ever created, true to Satoshi's vision with a pure, clean code base much closer to the code Satoshi and Gavin created than the complex codebase of today.

Terminology
Aricoin with a capital 'A' refers to the currency as a whole.
aricoin with a small 'a' refers to units of currency (aricoin can be used as both singular and plural).

Aricoin is awesome. I was in there open beta when they first started rebranding it from OlympicCoin. They are extremely fast in sending and receiving and I never had any issues with their wallet or online platform.  They are as fast as Stellar and Ripple when sending and receiving.  I wish nothing but the best for the Aricoin Team.  You guys did a outstanding job with this. Keep up the good work.

There is still ARI/BTC trading @ Cryptsy; however, the 24-hour trading volume is too low at 0.278 BTC.

It's not only about trading volume; it is the rundown price. You would be certainly pissed off, if you got ARI prior to listing at Bittrex or Cryptsy. The price dropped from 400-100 Satoshis to 50-60 Satoshis.  If you still hold those ARI coins, Your holding value evaporated 50% to 86% and still do not know when it is going back to above 100 Satoshis.

I attempted to make a deposit of Aricoin to my Aricoin Pay wallet, and it has not shown up. Did I make a mistake? Is the wallet no longer synced with the block chain?

I have connection, so I think there is just no mining going on to move the blockchain.

AricoinPay uses the V2 wallet software running on separate blockchain. DON'T send between Aricoin V1 and V2 blockchains, it will not work.
I will publish two more nodes, one for V1 and one for V2 later today.

There is mining on both blockchains, Aricoin V1 and Aricoin V2. There are mining pools and you can also use solo mining with Aricoin since difficulty is low.

The wallet I used was your Aricoin wallet--the online one. I sent some coins in from Cryptopia. How was I supposed to know there are now two separate block chains or know to check whether exchange and wallet are both on the same one?  ???

I don't have any admin rights at the moment to do anything. I am trying to negotiate with the team behind Aricoin about the future of this coin. If all works out I will make sure you will be compensated for the coins you lost by sending from one blockchain to another.

How would you get access to the v. 1 wallets, since the website is down? I wound up with 500K v. 1 coins and I sent them to my wallet from Cryptopia, and poof, they never showed up. I was then told a new version had been developed and that v. 1 no longer worked. Someone was supposed to have sent me replacement coins in v. 2 but that never happened either. I wouldn't mind getting hold of my v. 1 coins and dumping them if there are still markets, but I don't know the steps to get at them.

My experience with Aricoin has been a good object lesson as to why you need to actually keep up with the news on any coin you invest in. Although that seems to be changing as more professional people are getting involved, at this stage in the game, we should treat every coin we hold as one that could potentially blow up any day. We need to keep up with its news so we don't miss key information like the coin putting up a new version and the old addresses in your wallets no longer working for deposits.

Some coins I would recommend where the above is less true because the projects are more solid to begin with are NEM, DMD Diamond, and DNotes. All three coins are solid. The DMD and DNotes devs are very communicative on this forum, and as far as professionalism goes, the DNotes team can't be beat. NEM enjoyed quite the run up yesterday, so watch it for a day or two before jumping in.

Yes - we have always planned to come back to Aricoin - sadly a series of bad events hit the development team - there is no excuse for such silence but we were waiting for a time in our lives were we could devote more time to the project - that's why there has been no update in so long as it would be wrong to promise something when we don't have the time to commit to the project.

To give you some context if you were not around in 2013/2014. Aricoin was originally launched as OlympicCoin at the start of 2014 - see this launch thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=453085.0). The team created the coin for fun originally but because we were one of the first altcoins to gain a lot of traction and community support (with the addition of some team members specialising in marketing) we decided to take the project more seriously. We saw huge potential in cryptocurrency but at that time there were no coins making cryptocurrency accessible to everyone - a 'mass market' coin as it were. So we took this idea and developed AricoinPay around our coin to differentiate ourselves but at the same time do something that was sorely needed, bridge the gap between the cryptocurrency community and the public. Making cryptocurrency accessible. We have some marketing guys on the team and they created a waiting list feature for the launch of Aricoin pay that had over 100,000 people signup - we verified around 10,000 as real people. So now you have a bit of context, what were these bad events? AricoinPay functions exactly like PayPal. It uses real world transaction price data from exchanges, for it to work consistently without easy market manipulation we have to select one exchange for everyone to trade with so it can get an accurate live price from there - we were on a few exchanges, but the trade volume on MintPal was well into the 1000s of BTCs in 2014 so we selected this exchange as our primary exchange and included it in all our marketing material.

Then this happened to MintPal in 2014, shortly after our rebranding. (https://siliconangle.com/blog/2015/02/23/mintpal-scammer-ryan-kennedy-arrested-in-u-k-over-theft-of-3700-bitcoins/) Our community and developers made huge losses.

We quickly redirected everyone and relaunched on Cryptsy. Exchange volumes started slow but then got even higher here because the exchange was so large. It had a very public image and we foolishly didn't learn from our previous mistake. This happened to Crypsty (https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@avilsd/ceo-steals-usd30-000-000-worth-of-bitcoins-deletes-servers-full-of-client-data-flees-to-china-and-starts-another-exchange) shortly after.

The AricoinPay system relies on exchange data to bridge that gap and displays prices to people in their local currency.  After the downfall of Mintpal & Cryptsy in such a short time frame - given their huge respect in the community at the time - we were lost for words - that was then followed by a countrywide ban (https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-Chinese-Bitcoin-ban-result-in-the-price-crashing-so-hard) on cryptocurrency which has since been relaxed. We moved to a series of other exchanges that were much less known than Mintpal & Cryptsy and our thoughts were to wait until a time when the cryptocurrency environment was more transparent - so when we could find a more reliable exchange for the long run - with everything being so heavily regulated now it leaves less room for people to do things like our previous two selected exchanges and we are seeing a future again. We will be taking the next few months to plan our next steps.

Did you get given any of the cryptsy coins by the cryptsy receiver?

The cryptsy receiver gave the low value coins he couldn't sell back to the devs of each coin.

This is awesome to hear that you guys are making a comeback! I lost a large amount of ARI a few years ago. I bought it on Cryptopia and sent it off to my Aricoin Pay wallet. Back then I was able to log into the site. The coins never showed up in my wallet. When I asked about why, I was told that the coin had forked and the old wallet addresses no longer worked. But there had been no indication on the website that this was going on. I was told that someone would just send me the same amount of ARI to make up for the loss, but then I never heard anything again. I kind of figured it was a loss. If ARI is going to be developed now and actually go somewhere, is there any chance I might get back what I lost? I could send more specific info if someone from the dev team messages me. It would be best if the actual coin I lost could be recovered as opposed to merely replaced. That way no one is having to take a loss for my sake.

In the mean time I will keep following this thread. If ARI is going to make a comeback, I might want to pick some up...

We requested the Aricoin wallet from Cryptsy multiple times with no reply around the time of the events. Last month we discovered that Greggory Matthews was in possession of the Cryptsy Aricoin wallet from the receivership in 2017 as can be seen by his redistribution efforts here: https://www.goldcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3789.0 - we are trying to contact him to get details of who is holding the wallet but we are yet to receive a reply. If the stolen community coins are returned they will be used to help Aricoin grow. During the Cryptsy meltdown (to our knowledge) all user balance records were wiped, sadly there is no way to prove who had what in the Aricoin wallet. Due to this fact, the only way we see forward is to give the coins back to the community on a large scale by building a fund redistribution website that will allow people to claim 1 Aricoin for every unique data point we can gather about that user (Twitter / Facebook / IP linked) and reward users with more for referring a friend to Aricoin - much like our waiting list that had over 100k users waiting - without giving away any coins!. If anyone has a lead on who may have the wallet, please urge them to return it so Aricoin can grow. With that said we will be building a redistribution website regardless of the Cryptsy wallet being returned that will rely on donations from the community. It's important that holders of Aricoin know that for a coin to grow it needs to have wide use which means we need a wider distribution plan to bring Aricoin to the masses.

Sorry this happened to you wiser, unfortunately there is nothing we can do to recover these coins. We had alerts in place on AricoinPay to inform users of the network changes but sadly the exchanges didn't follow suit and alert people on their side which caused some confusion.

There were no alerts on my Aricoin Pay side. I know this because I had to open it up to find the address to send the coins to. It gave me the address just like it always had before and there was no indication that anything was amiss. I only found out about the fork after I reached out here and asked why my coins weren't showing up in my wallet. At least that is what I remember. I sent from Cryptopia.

If devs going to revive this then they should post proper announcement, not like this.

Perhaps the message wasn't clear enough at the time - the development team wrongly assumed everyone active on AricoinPay was providing feedback on the aricoin.org forums - everyone there would have been well aware of the changes and development progress. Needless to say, we will take extra steps to ensure this never happens again.


I understand where you are coming from. To explain; we removed old source links while we work on a more stable version of Aricoin for distribution. We owe it to the community to explain the absence. It's important to know we are still behind the Aricoin vision. It's too early for an announcement as the team is still in the planning stage and we are looking to bring the original community back together. The development team started work on the coin in 2013 and we launched under the name OlympicCoin in 2014 to celebrate the spirit of the Winter Olympics that year. The three major exchanges we were on have all been either hacked or shutdown, the major and first partner being the biggest blow to us during launch. Given AricoinPay's huge reliability on an exchange it has caused a lot of delays.

For those wondering were Aricoin has been - our team wanted to go in two directions and with real-world jobs taking priority after our original partnership breakdown in 2014/2015, the result of this was no progress as most of our team lost everything on MintPal.

Aricoin had over 80,000 users join the Aricoin waiting list and share our story on Twitter when we launched, and we launched right at the same time our primary exchange partner MintPal was having an internal meltdown, we built our systems to rely on MintPal and they let us down.

It's a shame as no other cryptocurrency at that time had ever reached as many non-tech users before us.


Here's some live stats. I can't imagine where we would be now if the exchange didn't rug pull us all, after us sending them over 80k users for free.

We've had someone trying to make thousands of accounts so currently withdrawals are limited to prevent abuse of the free coin offer. As soon as testing is complete you will be able to withdraw any coins on AricoinPay.

I have a problem with this project developers. Their antecedents with exchanges is nothing to write home about. Why not pull your acts together and find a better way of approaching exchanges so they can list your token? The community is looking up to you guys.

The tipping platform we developed works with an exchange's API, so unfortunately the project is dependant on that.

This is why it was so disheartening in 2014/15 to direct everyone to an exchange that got hacked just a few months later.

Aricoin is run by the community, the original developers left the project after the first exchange hack.

Thank you for additional information. All other users are able to sync without issues. Let's try and solve this:

1. Ensure there is enough free space on your disk for Aricoin to run. Our chain is around 800MB at the time of writing.

If that fails;
- Exit Aricoin client
- Go to data folder on windows: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Aricoin
- Delete blk0001.dat, blkindex.dat, and /database folder. Do not delete your wallet.dat
- Restart v1.3 and resync with network. Add reliable v1.3 nodes from https://chainz.cryptoid.info/ari/#!network to aricoin.conf
 

Yep, already in progress. HDD has tons of space so it appears as if the database has become corrupted.

OK, the new download is up-to-date. However, it's still showing "Out of sync" in red. I think it needs to find one new block while online to completely sync, which seems to be a programming error. Especially since the last block was 3 hours ago ...

More nodes now online. All syncing issues should be resolved.

A lot has changed in the 6+ years since we started.

If original members can see the value, we can go far. We've already built the tool we just need more eyes to show how powerful it is, literally no one has seen or used us since we've developed the features as we haven't announced them anywhere - we've been delayed due to more exchange issues.   

As you asked, in the interest of being as upfront as possible here. It seems our history of bad experiences with exchanges has come back to haunt us, CREX24 is much much smaller than our previous exchanges so we didn't expect this. We paid a fee of over 0.2 BTC for a listing on CREX24 this year in preparation for our relaunching, with our main developer account holding a value of over 1 BTC in Bitcoin and Aricoin with them. CREX24 appear to have taken advantage of our situation and simply taken the funds from the account after listing us for only 6 months after payment for a lifetime listing, that's why the links aren't working for now - we've been trying to resolve this over the last few months. As it stands, CREX24 are currently holding our funds in limbo and not replying to emails, we want to give them the benefit of the doubt. We're going to give them a little more time to explain themselves before we post everything publicly.

We would appreciate any community support, or voices that can help get us onto more reputable exchanges.

but i think that is not possible for free listing… i do know..
