Title: Is theymos messin' 'round again fixin' things ain't broke?
Post by: Phinnaeus Gage on July 02, 2012, 04:14:46 PM

Compare the above image with my avatar. Notice anything strange? Me neither! Carry on!

~Cackling Bear~

PS: Rumor has it that some folks using GIF images as their avatars are having some issues. Hopefully this isn't a French issue.

it's not moving like it was a couple days ago.

Maybe he's telling you that you need a new avatar :)

I tried re-plugging in the GIF URL, but no joy. This is the worse day of my life. I'm going to kill myself.

Bruno, is that you or did you let a bunch of internet kids and your fake internet girlfriend on your account?

At least my fake girlfriend doesn't fake organisms. (I reserve the right to delete this post after I think about it a spell)

Organisms are generally quite difficult to fake.

The thing is, Bruno, that was made that way to avoid non-ssl links on the hotlinked avatars, to avoid freaking out users because some lame browsers **cough**chrome**cough** show a red cross on the ssl bar when there are non-ssl elements on the page.
You can see that happening right now on this page because you hotlinked the gif on the first post using a non-ssl link :P
When your gif gets uploaded to the forum as an attachment it is converted into a png, so there goes the animation.

But I put a lot of thought into which avatar to use. (give me time to rephrase that)

Are you saying that nobody has an animated avatar now. Before you answer that, allow me to to direct you to this guy's avatar, which still seems to be working.

Maybe Bitcoin Porn's avatar still works because he didn't went to his profile page and saved it in the meantime...
Hell, that guy hasn't been active here for months.
If you hadn't gone and change your sig, your avatar would still be working ;)

I swear that I didn't go to my profile page to try to change my avatar. I only went there to see why if it was no longer there and then tried to upload it again.

Seriously, can we no longer upload animated GIF's?

Thanks for taking the time to address my questions and concerns, psy.

No, and it has been like that for months.
It doesn't meatter what yiu changed in your profile page, as long as you press save it will be a new save, so anything that isn't allowed will be converted to the new format.
For instance, if you had an image in your sig it would remain there, but if you went to your profile to do something elese, or even do nothing, if you pressed the save nutton it would remove the image you had on your sig.

I think it only removes the animation if it has to resize the image.

To be clear, I did not go to my profile until I noticed that the animated image was missing. The only thing I saw was https:// and nothing else. What used to be there was the complete link to the wiki page that I acquired the image from.

But I'm not making a federal case out of it. But somebody better be checking theymos to make sure he's not coding in French. ;D

Thanks, theymos and psy. Later, buds.

I'm going to find a solution to my problem even if it takes away from my market research time at myfreecams.com.

Step 1 complete. Now I need to learn how to re-size my original avatar.

I'll be back!
