Title: [Solved]Reaper help request please.[Fulfilled .05 BTC bounty]
Post by: pekv2 on July 06, 2012, 07:55:17 PM
[Solved] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=91979.msg1013568#msg1013568

Ok, for some reason reaper started to mine litecoins for me. Last night all I kept getting was error 6.

Problem now is that I believe my config is configured wrong and mining only off of the cpu.

What should be added to stop the CPU mining and have reaper mine off of the two 5850's that I have?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w0wphn9am31u03m/reaper.conf

SS
https://www.dropbox.com/s/x47504lbfggdls7/Working.jpg

I am on Win7 x64 sp1
two 5850's
11.12 CCC
SDK 2.5
Reaper v13 Beta 4 Windows binary (64bit)

I have removed my username & password from the upload config files.

If you have any 5800 cards and mining off of them with reaper for litecoins, please supply the reaper.conf and litecoin.conf config files without your username and password. Bounty will be paid to the one that can get me mining litecoins off of my two 5850's on reaper.

Try to remove Device 0 or both from your conf

also, raise aggression a bit and worksize 256 should be ok

Nope, it's still mining off of the cpu with both devices removed.

if you want to use only the gpu, you need to only put device 1 on the reaper.conf since 0 is the cpu, also aggression put on 13 and worksize 256

should be :

reaper.conf

kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes

device 1
mine litecoin

litecoin.conf

host 178.79.171.106 (litecoinpool)
port 9332
user removed
pass removed

protocol litecoin

worksize 256
aggression 13
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 6144

Well try to add on the reaper.conf this: cpu_mining_threads 0

Don't know if it will work but you can try. :P

Yea, check out the screenshot link. For two 5850's at 70% utilized.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pz71f6rhtcjgk5n/Workingithink.png

How do I get em to utilize 100% each?

Title: Re: Reaper help request please. .05 BTC bounty

on tip more, if your gonna use multi gpu on the same rig, dont run everything on the same reaper instance, copy and create another reaper folder, and just change the device in the reaper.conf, and run both reaper one for each gpu, works like a charm and super stable, i got a lot of BSOD before that, and if you got the litecoin wallet with the minerd on it make sure you dont run the miner in there otherwise is a CRASH for sure.

Increase aggression, on my 5830 I have aggression set to 18 and on my 5970 it's set to 17.

Around 12-14 and the system will still be pretty usable for average tasks. If it's a dedicated rig try 18.

Ok, so I have my reaper file like so

Code:
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
platform 1
DEVICE 1
cpu_mining_threads 0

mine litecoin

How should I have two of em configured?

Also, my cpu usage is through the roof.

Have you tried an older version ?

If you are running one instance you need

Quote
device 0

to use both GPUs.

Post by: pekv2 on July 06, 2012, 09:19:37 PM
k, how do I stop it from mining on the cpu?

Title: Re: Reaper help request please. .05 BTC bounty
Post by: phantitox on July 06, 2012, 09:20:10 PM
in your case device 0 and device 1 are the gpu , device 2 is the cpu, i think you can remove the platform 1 off the reaper.conf

Title: Re: Reaper help request please. .05 BTC bounty
Post by: pekv2 on July 06, 2012, 09:20:10 PM
Have you tried an older version ?

wait, did you try to use just platform 1 ?

Yea, we got that figured out already and been using platform 1.

Title: Re: Reaper help request please. .05 BTC bounty
Post by: phantitox on July 06, 2012, 09:21:42 PM
if you put device 0 and device 1 , device 2 should disable (cpu) dont force the platform, i try that and the cpu always start when you force the platform, remember delete the .bin ;)

Title: Re: Reaper help request please. .05 BTC bounty
Post by: PinkBatman on July 06, 2012, 09:22:49 PM
Make sure in the config file device is written in all lowercase.

Quote
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
platform 1
device 0
device 1

mine litecoin

It looks like reaper doesn't like capital letters which is why you were getting

Quote
Warning: unknown property "DEVICE" in configuration file.
Warning: unknown property "DEVICE" in configuration file.

then it would default to using all devices.

Ok, we are getting closer. this is what

Code:
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
platform 1
device 0
device 1

mine litecoin

produces

Code:
List of platforms:
        0       Intel(R) OpenCL
        1       AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing
Using platform number 1

Using device 0
        0       Cypress

GPU 131.1kH/s, shares: 53|0, stale 0%, GPU errors: 0%, ~121.71 kH/s, 28s

cypress 1 is disabled as well as my cpu.

You have the following platforms:
Quote
List of platforms:
        0       Intel(R) OpenCL
        1       AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing

If you want to mine only to GPU's you shoud say it in reaper.conf

Quote
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
device 0
device 1
platform 1

mine litecoin

this disables Intel(R) OpenCL, because you say to Reaper to use only platform 1 (AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing).
Using platform 1 (AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing) u say to reaper to use device 0 (Cypress 1) and device 1 (Cypress 2).

After editing reaper.conf and litecoin.conf always delete *.bin files.

Also, I have noticed, my all my card temps are like 20c lower by mining on reaper for litecoin than mining bitcoins. I am only doing this because I have loans to pay, and this is a test for a day or so to see if I make out more by mining ltc and trading for btc. For my lenders to know.

yup try this , never use 128 cause it break the hash rate (at least on my gpus)  64 or 256 is the way, also the gpu error go up with lower aggression i notice that.

Ok, thanks, I changed it to 64, and will give it a while so what ever needs to build up to show the result, I'll post back with results in like an hour or half an hour.

It looked to steadily climb upto .4% from 0% with previous setting "worksize 128" so we'll, see.

Thanks.

try 4800 or even lower. Not going to hurt to play around.

also, if you are cpu mining on the other PC's, are you using reaper ?  Cause there is better cpu mining sofware.

Nope, for cpu mining I am using Pooler miner and for the other cpu on another computer using pooler as well. I just configured my prifinity64 to set reaper to use use core 3 and Pooler set to 0,1 and 2 core and running pooler as 3 cores.

I put it work back to 128 and the gpu_thread_concurrency back 6144 , I receive around .2% to .3% error. which is ebtter than the .4% and much better than 4%.

And actually, when I used work set to 64 or 256 my hash rate was breaking from the original 333khash/s to 289 khash/s.

I had it at 18 but pc is unusable at that number, I changed it to a little bit more moderate, 15. pc gets a little hiccups here and there once in a while, like opening certain stuff.

Yea, for sure. :)

What is odd is, I am using the intel hd graphics for my desktop, and don't use the two ati gpu's at all but for mining. And using 18 I would think, should have no effect on my desktop use at all. Find that odd?

My stales jumped up to 1.4%.

I'm actually gonna stop mining litecoins on the gpu's.

I would make around 138.484 LTC a day = 0.34759 BTC a day at the exchange.  0.34759 x 7 = 2.43313 BTC a week. When I mine bitcoins, I make    3.12 a week.

As stated this was a test and it isn't worth mining litecoins atm. And I have learned quite a bit by this experience. So it wasn't a waste.

My hash rate for mining btc is 768 mhash/s

Now, when the difficulty goes up in bitcoin, then it might be worth swapping over to litecoins.

Um ok...most ltc miners actually are making more BTC via LTC mining. Not sure where your numbers are going wrong.

hm.

I took my bitcoin mining hash rate and applied it to http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator.php
Then I took the amount I would make in a day of litecoin mining 138.484 LTC, converted it over at https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_btc to btc x 7.

Am I doing something wrong here?

My litecoin hashrate would be 330 khash/s from the gpu's + 15 khash/s from one cpu = 345 khash/s.

Currently to me it's a close call whereas two days ago it was more profitable for me to mine litecoin. As I mentioned, once the litecoin difficulty goes up %34 in ten hours, I`ll be back to mining BTC.

Sure is fun solving blocks so often though  :)

Well, my configs are above. my overclocks are like so. one 5850 is 915core/550mem other 5850 is 1000c/350mem.

Is there a hardware comparison somewhere?

I posted the cmd window results as well.

stales seem to come with higher aggression, not sure why the pool choice would make such a difference. Keep in mind that litecoinpool has a 5% fee. Having said that, I also mine there ;)

over at coinotron, they have a lil chart that show profitability. it was just over 3 earlier. Now at 4.4. Have you seen the price of litecoin recently ?

http://picturepush.com/public/8665046

my stales are very high, but I am still tweaking

hm. good I am guessing for that 4.4?

yea my stales jump from 0% to 10.0%

Edit:
These stales are so weird, slowly decreasing now. 4.6%

Edit2:
I jumped to a different pool, litecoinpool.org, I get .05%-.06% stales versus 6.0% at ozco.in

4.4 I can only imagine is good. Green means go :)  I can't say its 4.4 times as profitable to mine litecoins but I think were doing ok for now.

stales seem to come with higher aggression, not sure why the pool choice would make such a difference. Keep in mind that litecoinpool has a 5% fee. Having said that, I also mine there ;)

Ouch, 5%. That probably all combined with everyone pays for the stales, along with everything else I imagine?

LoL, I'm always asking questions, my bad, I'll try n dim them down a lot.

I updated the github wiki with my 5850's.

Updated the wiki again for the 5850's.
https://github.com/coblee/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison#wiki-ATI_AMD_GPUs

I squeezed quite a bit more hash rate out of em.

Did you try with worksize 64  ??

I have not with my configuration atm but in the past have but that is irrelevant, I will do some quick testing with 64. I received a ton of "weird connection repsonse" errors with 128. 256 seems to be great. As above, Ima test out the 64.

Think 64 will bang out more hash rates?

It does for me, or I would not have suggested it twice.

64 gives me horrible results.

64
Code:
GPU 655.4kH/s, shares: 4|5, stale 55.56%, GPU errors: 5.051%, ~513.365 kH/s, 12s

256
Code:
GPU 790.2kH/s, shares: 94|4, stale 4.082%, GPU errors: 0.0618%, ~751.572 kH/s, 1

Here are my reconfigured, config files for anyone that has 5850's.

Jay1337 gave me fantastic advice and I used it, I changed my gpu_thread_concurrency from 6641 to 5600 for the 5850's , the cards whopped from 717 khash/s to 788-789-790 khash/s.

Quote
gpu_thread_concurrency should be
-- amount of shaders your card has
X amount of threads you use = gpu_thread_concurrency

certain 5850s v
4480 or 5600 gpu_thread_concurrency

litecoin.conf
Code:
host litecoinpool.org
port 9332
user removed
pass removed

protocol litecoin

worksize 256
aggression 17
threads_per_gpu 1
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 5600

reaper.conf
Code:
kernel reaper.cl
save_binaries yes
enable_graceful_shutdown no
long_polling yes
platform 1
device 0
device 1

mine litecoin

strange, but I do have a multi GPU setup so I prob should have mentioned that. Also, I think my gpu_thread_concurrency is at 4800 or something.. a lot of tweaking in the last few days. lol

How many cards do you have and what kind?

I've tried 4800 and I had received a ton of errors stating [weird response from server] < Déjà vu, think I've said this somewhere, maybe above.

It's like a puzzle or an easy combination lock to receive nice results in ltc mining.

1 rig consists of a 6950, 3x 6850, and a 6770 after a lot of different setting changes was getting around 1.4 Mhash with 0 GPU errors and <1% stale

Im curios now why I see gains with smaller worksize but im done messing with settings and actually, Im mining BTC on most of my cards now :)

You are so right about it being a puzzle

Or sorta pulling out of ltc mining? May I ask why?

Hi All, great thread for ATI 5850 owners mining litecoin.

Could you please share what version of drivers & SDK you all run , plan to use 3 of my 5850 into litecoin mining.
