Title: DefaultTrust securing my account by sending address
Post by: SureLockLoans on January 16, 2015, 06:46:47 PM
Do I simply just send the address via pm and note down the message id?

You should post it or send your bitcoin to a trusted forum member , like one of the mod or also the same admin ( BadBear or theymos).   However this thread should be moved in the meta section.

I thought i read you need to send it to DefaultTrust and not theymos or Badbear I will be doing transactions very shortly so that aint a problem and will just add so my layer of security.

sorry for posting in the wrong sub forum

Send it to a trusted member ( monbux , devthedev , maidak, Blazedout419 , etc... ). Choose one of them and explain him the situation , I think he will help you for sure.

Just sending your address to DefaultTrust should suffice. If you ever post your public address whilst dealing with someone on the forum, you can use that to sign at a later date if your account becomes compromised. If you send your address to default trust, it's best to go to your Outbox and click on the message you sent Subject and save the url. The part that you need from the url will look something like this:
Code: (Example)
 #msg0000000

Alternatively, you can post a PGP key.

If you want me to recover a hacked/lost account, you need to prove that you own it. Typically, the only acceptable method of proving ownership is by signing a message (including current date and desired new email address) using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.

No you are correct. Send a PM to  DefaultTrust (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=122551) with a BTC address whose private key you control. Then you can sign a message from that private key to prove ownership of the account later. You will need to note the the message ID to give to theymos in the event that you need to attempt to recover your account.

This will not 100% prove ownership (as it is possible that there will be evidence you sold the account for example). It is also not a guarantee that you account will be recovered in the event you lose access because recovering accounts is not a high priority for theymos

Don't send them to theymos or BadBear. I don't think they'd appreciate getting spammed with them all the time. The best option is to just publicly post your address on the forum several times and remember where you posted them (even deleted posts can be seen by admins), though sending a pm to defaulttrust is a good idea too.
