Title: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: sieve66 on January 25, 2015, 10:12:12 AM Hello everyone, newbie here
I was thinking of buying something like this to make the antminer wireless http://www.amazon.de/Wireless-Bridge-802-11b-Router-Kamera/dp/B006JV2H6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422141425&sr=8-1&keywords=USB+Wireless+Network+Adapter+RJ45+Ethernet+Dongle My question is: does anyone know any reason why this could not work? so I dont waste time and money with it. Moving onto the cooling I was thinking about replacing the noisy fan with a push-pull composed of 2x noctua NF-F12 PCC industrial 3000 rpm PWM fans: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=78&lng=en&set=1 And to finish I have narrowed my PSU choices to this, but it would be great if somebody could tell me fromhis/her experience which one works CS650M http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cs-series-modular-cs650m-650-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-psu RM650 http://www.corsair.com/en-us/rm-series-rm650-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply CS750M http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cs-series-modular-cs750m-750-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-psu RM750 http://www.corsair.com/en-us/rm-series-rm750-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply CX750M http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cx-series-cx750m-modular-atx-power-supply-750-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu TLDR; I have done my research and now I want someone to validate my choices before expending money Thank you in advance! :D Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: Rabinovitch on January 25, 2015, 11:18:39 AM I was thinking of buying something like this to make the antminer wireless http://www.amazon.de/Wireless-Bridge-802-11b-Router-Kamera/dp/B006JV2H6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422141425&sr=8-1&keywords=USB+Wireless+Network+Adapter+RJ45+Ethernet+Dongle My question is: does anyone know any reason why this could not work? so I dont waste time and money with it. Yep, it should work (but it doesn't make S5 truely wireless...). You will need a kind of this cable to power up this bridge: http://www.amazon.com/Coolerguys-Molex-Dual-Power-Connecter/dp/B006JCHN08/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1422183878&sr=8-9&keywords=molex+to+usb+power (http://www.amazon.com/Coolerguys-Molex-Dual-Power-Connecter/dp/B006JCHN08/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1422183878&sr=8-9&keywords=molex+to+usb+power) But I don't know how to configure this bridge (you should somehow point it to correct wifi network). ??? Quote And to finish I have narrowed my PSU choices to this, but it would be great if somebody could tell me fromhis/her experience which one works I chose my PSU Chieftec APS-850CB (http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/277-1588353-6713536?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Chieftec+APS-850CB (http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/277-1588353-6713536?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Chieftec+APS-850CB)) because it has 4 separate 6+2 pin PCI-E cables to power ip my S5. Just to be on the safe side. But you can choose both CS750M or RM750 though. Personally I would like RM750. ) Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: sieve66 on January 25, 2015, 01:14:00 PM But I don't know how to configure this bridge (you should somehow point it to correct wifi network). ??? You have to configure it first using a pc and the drivers included to set the network and the password I have read somewhere that some power supplies have 4 connectors but 2 of them are binded or something like this and that might lead to an uneaven distribution of power between the two blades of the antminer. I don't really know how can I find that out on the PSUS tech specs so I don't mess up the PSU choice haha. Anyway thak you for the response :) Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: philipma1957 on January 25, 2015, 01:46:57 PM the noctua fans will not move enough air. they cost a lot.
if you do not mine running the s-5 at freq 300 and getting only 970gh- 1000gh hash the noctua are good. read this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=927941.0 As for psu's rm750 is decent an evga 1300 g2 can run 2 s-5's 10 year warranty. it has 6 cables but 2 are double cables I run 1 s-5 at freq 381 using 4 single cables I run 1 s-5 at freq 300 using 2 double cables Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: IITravel01 on January 25, 2015, 02:45:58 PM The 3000 rpm Noctua fan is actually pretty noisy, I've got two S5's with it on them. Don't know why but it runs at 2700 rpm on one and 1800 rpm on the other at the same temps. Mine are the 140mm with adapters which move even more air.

But I don't know what it is you are looking to do with your gear. How quiet do you want? How much hash do you want? My idea is to get around the 1000-1100 stated GH and being able to leave it in a closed room without hearing it from the outside. Everything will be OK with 2 of that fans. But yes, they are very expensive... Comparing to my Gembird fans. ;D Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: philipma1957 on January 26, 2015, 02:04:52 AM the noctua fans will not move enough air. Comparing to my Gembird fans. ;D enough air to cool the machine at freq 350 unless the room is cold. since quiet is important I assume the room is not cold. I tested them and freq 300 or 312 are okay not freq 350. he wants to close the door on the room to not hear the gear. I did say if he opens the window it may work for him. No need for a second Noctua, one is enough for 325MHZ=1070Gh (certainly) and maybe even 337.5 (1100 GH) as long as ambient is below 25C. Second Noctua in pull position does close to nothing. It is ~56dB (at one foot distance), though, i don't know where manufacturers get the the bs number of 41dB CX750M works fine, it's a workhorse. i had mine working with S1, S3 and now S5. No problem, but it WILL use ~5% more power at the wall in comparison with a gold PSU, but it is just ~$2.6 more per month at 12c/kwh. I have yet to think about the cooling though Title: Re: Antminer S5 possible wireless and cooling tweak Post by: alh on January 26, 2015, 09:32:45 PM Just out of curiosity, how low has anyone taken the S5 frequency either for cooling or noise control? I don't want to make work for anybody, but I though somebody might have this already.
