Title: [SOLVED] Should I bring the blockchain to a new OS? Post by: dree12 on July 25, 2012, 12:09:01 AM I'm going to be installing Ubuntu on my Windows box soon, and I heard that bitcoin runs on Linux too. I have the wallet.dat on a USB stick ready to be moved over already. I was wondering if I should do the same with the blockchain: will it still work on a new OS, and is it worth the trouble?

Assuming that you are using the vanilla client, the OS doesn't really affect the blockchain database format so long as the file is named correctly and in the correct folder. But unless you have some real bandwidth issues, it's probably not worth the risk or the trouble. Title: Re: Should I bring the blockchain to a new OS? I did that when my windows system blew up the HDD and I installed Ubuntu, but used the blockchain I had recovered from the failing HDD ;) Title: Re: Should I bring the blockchain to a new OS? The exact size of the thumb drive :).Oh and I figure out my issue with the thumb drive for all you that know i had an issue :-) There's already a whole bunch of stuff on it though, so the blockchain (2+ GB) won't fit. |
