Title: Bitparking Litecoin Exchange [closed]
Post by: doublec on July 31, 2012, 03:30:13 PM
See my message here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=96917.msg1747259#msg1747259) for details on the closing of the exchange:
Quote
Recent events have shown that running an exchange is way to risky and stressful to me in the current alt coin climate. Prices have risen to a point where I'm not comfortable I can provide a reasonable level of service. To this end I'm closing the exchange and encourage all users to move to vircurex. The following details are on the exchange site:
Quote
2013-04-05: The Bitparking exchange is closing down. I've decided the risk involved in dealing with the current high prices for the alt coins has moved from the 'fun hobby' level the exchange originally started with and requires a more serious approach to operation. I've been in contact with the Vircurex exchange and I encourage all existing customers to move their funds and continue trading their.

The exchange will close trading Friday 5 April 2013 22:00 and new deposit addresses will not be able to be created. Trading operations will also be disabled. Withdrawals will be available for a few days after that at which point the exchange will close and all funds sent to their emergency withdrawal address. Withdrawal fees are removed during this period. Thanks for using the exchange and enjoy a better and more professional experience at Vircurex.

This is a very good sign for litecoins. I remember DoubleC saying he wouldn't open another exchange for alt-chain unless he believed it had a lasting impression for the long-term.

Interesting times guys.

I've never considered messing around with Litecoins but now I'm getting interested, mostly because I like the BitParking Namecoin Exchange. Great customer service from DoubleC, my only complaint is that the NMC/BTC instead of BTC/NMC quote makes it a little confusing for dummies like me.  :)

Just a quick question, why your fee (0.4%) is higher than BTC-E (0.2%) for each trade ?

Past experience with running alt coin exchanges has showed me that 0.2% isn't enough to cover expenses - I used to be 0.2% for a while with the namecoin and other coin exchanges I ran. It's better to start at a point where expenses are covered then as volumes increase reduce the price rather than start low, run at a loss and have to increase prices.

Edit: Adjusted the fee to 0.2% and the withdrawal transaction fee down to 0.01. Let's see how that goes for a bit.

I've added cumulative sums to the order list on the main page showing the total of LTC and BTC in the buy and sell orders. It clutters the interface a bit, I'm not sure if it'll stay. Let me know if you think it's useful or not.

I recall a problem with Google Chrome a while back, which is the main reason I was forced to stop using the exchange unfortunately.

I simply couldn't ever log in.....Is this fixed now ?

Can we use out BTC balance on the Namecoin exchange for trades on the Litecoin exchange? or are these 2 completely separate accounts and would need to transfer BTCs back and forth?

Blah blah blah.

If you are who you say you are. Perhaps you should put up a picture of yourself and NOT Brad Pitt.

I've been on this forum for sometime and one thing I know how to do is spot someone just spreading BS/FUD.

Litecoin isn't funding a damn thing to MicroCrashRash.

Most of us who come to this board actually think MC is a piece of garbage. With RS still in the mix...the project will always be a pile of shit.

So Michael Weston from LA/NYC please do us all a favor and stop spreading lies. You are welcome to join the alt-discussion but stop with the bullshit.

Welcome again MC/SC Sockie!

Edit: MicroCash it's just better at being soiled!

From what I gather you're nothing more than nuisance here on this forum, that seems to be the consensus.

It's Michael Westin with an "i"...

I guess I'm being called out on my avatar by someone that uses an avatar representative of themselves?

Quick question.

Are both sides of a trade paying 0.2% each?  Or is just the person placing the matching order paying 0.2%?

Could you please clarify?

Both sides. I believe this is how the other exchanges work but if I'm wrong let me know.

I think the other exchanges both sides pay.  You can encourage liquidity in the market though if you only make the trigger side pay.  People are more likely to lay down their orders if they know that by doing so the more anxious person has to pay the fee.  ;-)

Such a fee structure might also give you an edge over your competitors.  Just a thought.

Though having the any-to-any trading possibility is nice, it looks as the only substantial trades are to and from BTC. Makes me wonder whether we need the any-2-any trade at all.

Where on vircurex do you see that? I cannot find it. As far as I know my Open Transactions server (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=53329.0) is the only exchange that has markets for all pairs of its supported assets.

When you log into vircurex you can see all the pairs on the right. They do indeed allow trading all supported currencies against each other.

Once you hit 'Approve' on the pending withdraw and it no longer appears there the funds are transferred immediately. I don't see any outstanding transactions - all have been confirmed. Is your bitcoin blockchain up to date? Do you see the funds in a block explorer? PM me your username and withdrawal address and I'll investigate.

I'll recover the funds for you. Note to those reading, this was on the namecoin exchange which doesn't allow re-depositing to an existing address. The litecoin exchange does allow re-deposits so I wouldn't need to recover manually.

Is this the main thread for Bitparking NMC exchange too?

I don't see a thread for that

I'm curious how volume is calculated. is that open orders or completed orders for the day?

It's completed orders for the last 24 hours.

It's completed orders for the last 24 hours.

So it's second most used, 2nd to Vircurex which has the highest fees!: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110522.0

I can't even find official thread for that exchange...main page says only 10 volume if that's BTC then 5K, but in what time? I think ~6 hours because thats all thats listed on their page for past transfers: https://vircurex.com/welcome/index?base=NMC&alt=BTC&d=7

If I deposit once into bitparking address, can i deposit to that same address before my first transaction is confirmed?

For the litecoin and ppcoin exchange you can deposit as many times as you want to the same address, before or after previous confirmations, and they'll be picked up correctly.

For the namecoin exchange you can only deposit once to an address but it only calculates the amount once the number of confirmations have gone through. So if you do multiple deposits before the confirmation limit then they will be picked up. At some point I'll move the namecoin exchange over to the same software as the litecoin/ppcoin exchange so it gets the reusable address functionality.

Oh I do hope you do move the software, do you have an estimate for that?

A graph would be nice, but the site just lacks the trades....my app would draw a graph, if there were data to use...

Recent events have shown that running an exchange is way to risky and stressful to me in the current alt coin climate. Prices have risen to a point where I'm not comfortable I can provide a reasonable level of service. To this end I'm closing the exchange and encourage all users to move to vircurex (https://vircurex.com).
