Title: Cross-posting eqtiquette?
Post by: Meni Rosenfeld on August 02, 2012, 11:45:37 AM
If I have a thread for which the appropriate section is low-traffic, but which could still have a wide appeal, is it considered proper to make a post on Bitcoin Discussion linking to it?

In general, no. We have subforums to reduce the clutter, crossposting just makes it pointless.

Well, the linking thread could be locked and have no further posts, so the clutter in the section is still reduced while giving people an opportunity to learn about the main thread.

This is why a discussion about a tagging system was started recently. It would be really cool to have multiple links in different sections actually only point to a single thread.

The reason I would like that is because I use the forum in a different way; I don't look at all the categories and stuff except when posting a new thread. At all other times, I am reading a complete list of all topics from all sections, and such a list would only have to show a topic once no matter how many tags it has.

It's fine if it's locked.

Unlocked cross-posts are OK only in "Newbies", "Important announcements", and the local sections.
