1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 12, 2014, 01:14:00 PM
I'd love to know at what point it becomes uneconomical  for the corporates currently piling in and they pull the plug.
I imagine small miners have more endurance for making losses than they do, not that it helps right now...

It's not really helped by everyone having a different definition for batch 1,2,3, 0, CA, etc, etc, etc,
I stopped getting wound up about it after mine arrived to be honest.
When the bonus comes, it comes and a very welcome bonus it will be.

I've messaged with Roadstress and he's doing a good job of keeping on top of the latest information coming out of Spondoolies and fighting our corner on the refund discussion.

Well, at least we know where we are now. Guy, thanks for all your hard work and honest communication. Well done for finding an equitable solution to the shortfall - I trust it will apply fairly to the Roadstress Group Buy customers as well as those who paid full retail. New tech is always problematic...

Let's just wait for the updated specs. I'd far rather give them time to work this through than have a rushed response that then needs to be corrected again. It's new tech, unexpected issues should come as no surprise. They're not late and they're working hard for us. It's a pleasant change to at least be kept informed so give them a chance.

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this but I have a November Jupiter that seems to have died.

The fans are on and a blue light is visible from the front but I cannot connect to it and it does not respond to pings. Also the red and green lights on the front never go on.

What do you suggest I do ?

Trippy

Have a look on the KnC forums, but it sounds like your Beaglebone not booting up. It cycles those lights on the controller board late on during the initialisation sequence and of course, it is what you log in to for the miner GUI. If both of those aren't happening it's likely never turning itself on properly.
A few threads in there about reflashing (as a first step) otherwise contact KnC to RMA it.

Well, something is certainly spooking the Bitcoin price today...
9  Economy / Services / Re: US ASIC hosting to help EU miners avoid >20% import VAT on: January 09, 2014, 12:38:43 PM
I think if you can get to an all-in cost taking into account overheads and power etc and present it on a "per box" basis I'd be very interested.
10  Economy / Services / Re: US ASIC hosting to help EU miners avoid >20% import VAT on: January 09, 2014, 10:55:54 AM
Hmm. yea interesting. I hope you're not just limiting it to Neptune's but would potentially host any mining gear.
That aside, to help decide whether it stacks up here are two points:
1) If you've got an EU VAT number (i.e. you're trading as a business or know someone who is) you can buy within Europe and KnC don't have to charge you VAT, so in practice it's like being in the USA as far as taxes are concerned.
2) Best commercial hosting quote in Europe I've found so far is $180 per kilowatt per month including power. So that's probably going to be around $550 for a 3Kw (guess) Neptune.
If you can beat that then I'm interested.

this is not safe....

They must be pushing 50%. The earnings are seductively regular though...

Speaking of commercial breaks, anyone catch Cointerra's latest announcement lastnight?

http://cointerra.com/engineering-update-asic-bringup-diagnostic-testing/

They met their minimum target goal of 132GH for 1 die. 4 dies per chip = 528GH. Wonder if they'll be able to get more out of it?

I'm no expert but to me that's a good looking piece of engineering. Oh well, maybe when they drop their prices... again.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 09, 2014, 10:20:46 AM

I am in the minority of the market as a #1 Small Investor who wanted to re-invest, but unfortunately does not have the ability to host the latest KNC miners without moving or finding an outside hosting solution which stinks because KNC actually did deliver and really the rest of the mining companies are very risky compared to KNC miner in my opinion.

I really hope they release the Jupiters but I can also see them just focusing on the Neptune and attempting to release it earlier than expected, that would really keep groups #'s 2 & 3 as long term buyers.

A hosted solution is going to be pretty much inevitable within six months I reckon because either you'll want a second machine to keep up the earnings, or the next development increment will simply melt a residential property power circuit, so I figured I may as well bite the bullet and start looking around for hosting now. If we're sensible and community minded, people will band together and group buy a data centre and host themselves at cost. But because we're all solitary and selfish we won't, but hey - it'll just be part of the cost of doing Bitcoin business.

Off topic excursions are kind of like the commercial break on TV. Sometimes interesting and they break up the monotony when nothing exciting is going on. As per now.

Not sure what you mean. I've got a crate full of 2000W 240v power supplies. I can run a whole lot of machines with them and they were much cheaper than pc psus.

Were these second hand or new? and what price range did you buy them?
Most (new) >2kW power supplies for routers/servers I know are often around 500USD or even higher.
But yea better is to wait for KNC's advice on power supplies.
I already asked them if they are going to supply the power supplies but the answer was a probably no.
What I mean is that it would be better for KNC to partner up with a well known server power supply supplier and get us individuals discount on their product some how.

Most of the competition seem to be shipping their miners with power supplies in the box, so it can't be that hard.

Argh, we're heading for a world where each of us is renting some massive industrial unit with its own en-suite power station. Saving up every BTC we mine just to buy the next miner that comes out in 6 months time and still only making 1 BTC a day because everyone else is doing the same thing.

Change that to 0.1 BTC per day and it sounds more realistic  Cry

I'd laugh if I wasn't crying so much.
Still, Bitcoin Miners as underfloor heating boiler has some appeal - in Winter anyway. I'll worry about what to do in Summer in a few months. Outdoor heated pool?

Either that or Hashfast didn't ship, Cointerra haven't shipped so the need to keep up right this minute with adding more hashing power didn't materialise - so no requirement
 to sell more Jupiters.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 07, 2014, 04:46:41 PM

Sounds like for the "first time", they're floundering on their word. A month ago they confirmed they would in fact be selling Jupiters by now (actually, by now they should've been shipped). Now they're quiet.

Either they're releasing the Neptune much earlier than anticipated, like next month, or they're simply going to ignore their word.

Actually they said:

Quote
As it looks like our struggling competition may eventually ship before our Network protection period has finished, we may be in a position to release Jupiter’s and possibly upgrade cards which we will ship from stock.

If we do have more items to place in the shop for our 28nm range, we will announce this via one of our newsletters which will contain the time and date that they will go on sale. So keep some coins handy as we expect them to go quick.

Emphasized slightly for those that are of an optimistic disposition Smiley

Except in email response to particular KNC thirsty members here, they did confirm they would be opening the order books. After this post. I'm not exactly optomistic, I'm not buying anything from them.

As to the recent hashpower... Cointerra testing equipment? 2nd week of January is when they should've had systems hitting the assembly line for a test run-through.

People are still buying BFL's vastly overpriced "in stock" garbage unfortunately.

Even if they did suddenly offer some for sale, we'd be complaining they were overpriced.

It really is the Ghash / BTC show these days. No other game in town.
Bitminter's run of horrific luck recently hasn't done them any favours
