1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling as an escape on: November 08, 2024, 04:39:01 PM
I read some cultural shocking replies on this thread. I couldn't imagine a funeral being a setting for gambling. In my culture, engaging in gambling during a funeral would raise suspicions, as it's a time of mourning.

However, I understand that gambling can serve as an escape for people. The environment, music, decorations, and various games in casinos create a unique atmosphere, for someone experiencing heartbreak, grief, or life's challenges, a casino can provide a temporary diversion, the vibe and chatter in casino's is usually different.

It's a place to socialize, chat, shout, and focus on winning games, distracting oneself from reality. But the escape is temporary; reality will eventually set in.

I was surprised to learn that gambling could occur in a funeral setting, I prefer you visit a casino where no one would see you gambling during mourning periods. However, if it's a cultural practice elsewhere, I respect that.
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto Casinos on: November 08, 2024, 04:27:13 PM
The wild adoption of a particular product or service works based on customer demand. The moment people started using crypto for transactions, any wise business would know it's time to incorporate crypto as a payment method. So, casinos adopting cryptocurrency was a great move to grow their revenue. Now, you don't have to worry about cash; you can use any comfortable payment method.

Cryptocurrency has helped the gambling industry, and vice versa. Casinos get more customers due to flexible payment options, while cryptocurrency gains more users. As people adopt and use crypto more, knowledge about it spreads. Both industries benefit mutually from each other's capacity.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2024/2025 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: November 08, 2024, 04:19:43 PM
After a fierce competition between Fulham and Brentford, Fulham finally managed to get 3 points in the final minutes to lock in a 2-goal victory.
Initially, Fulham was 1 goal behind Brentford, but it turned out that Fulham was able to take advantage of the final minutes when Brentford players began to lose focus.
Did anyone bet and watch the match?

It was indeed a fierce battle between Fulham and Brentford. I initially thought Brentford would win, but Fulham staged an impressive comeback, equalizing in the 90th minute and then scoring the winner in the 97th minute of extra time. In my view, Brentford lost focus towards the end of the game. Even though my prediction was correct as I backed both teams to score, I still felt that Brentford should have managed the game better to avoid conceding two late goals.
I'm going to be coming from the angle of gambling. This is exactly why you can't really say you have a strategy for gambling or you are sure you are going to win because last-minute games like this happen a lot in football. You won't see it coming, you might think the team is an underdog, and just last minute they score either a draw or they score to win. But it was a really interesting game and I always enjoy last-minute games.

Also, it's good to be hopeful, anything can change last minute, though you are not sure, but you will be hopeful. I'm usually skeptic to cashout, but when I think about the fact that I will lose entire money if I don't cash out when I saw a reasonable amount of profit, I just end up doing a cash out. But last-minute games are crazy and interesting at the same time.
4  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: The Victory of Trump and it's benefit to Cryptocurrency on: November 08, 2024, 04:03:46 PM
Aside from November being a good month in crypto, in relation to the just concluded US presidential election, there has been a rise in Bitcoin amount Since Trump won. A lot of people knowing he's into crypto chose to reinvest and invest into the Bitcoin market because it has potentials and values and if indeed countries are calling to ceasefire for their wars and peace is on the way, then this is a good thing not just for the crypto market but the economy in general.

There was a post on X, where Trump was seen buying burger with Bitcoin, it's a really good thing for the market. I'm just hoping that he doesn't adjust  when he steps into office, adjusting in the sense of losing interest in the crypto market. I hope all the promises he made, both to the crypto industry and combatting war as he promised is legit and he's going to work towards fulfilling it, other than just mere campaigning.
5  Economy / Economics / Re: Trump's victory and it's implications to world Economies on: November 08, 2024, 10:00:29 AM
World economies are likely to get better under Trump than any Democrat leaders. Trump is a businessman, he knows how to manage money. All the diversity hires & progressive woke nonsense will stop. Industries will be more efficient. It’s more likely wars will be stopped as the Democratic Party is a war machine. We have the worse cost of living crisis I ever remember, which happened under Biden. Things will improve under Trump.
Human beings do change and life is dynamic, you might promise to do something but certain situations in life meet you that you have to take the other route. Regardless, I'm hopeful and I'm giving Trump benefit of doubt that he will fulfill his promises because there is nobody on this earth that enjoys war or enjoys hardship, so it's only proper that when he enters office he tries to address this issue so people will live better, even if he doesn't fix them 100%, making an effort towards fixing them matters too.

So I'm just going to give him benefit of that, and watch him. Will he be able to stop the wars? Will he be able to improve the economy? We are yet to know. We just have to let him enter the office and act. I feel if he will make good use of this opportunity for people because people gave him a second chance, which is rare in this time of the world, and hope for the best.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How often do you gamble? on: November 07, 2024, 04:37:40 PM
The idea that 'the more you bet, the more you get' doesn't apply to games of chance. Betting more doesn't guarantee more wins; luck and unpredictability rule in gambling.

Even in spin-and-win games, spinning 10-20 times may yield only 1-2 wins, without hitting big. Frequency doesn't directly impact winning, but it can increase chances.

Understand that the number of games played doesn't directly affect wins. Luck determines outcomes. You might win all bets if lucky, lose all if unluck or emein/lose half if luck is mixed

Betting more (e.g. 10-20 times) increases probability of 1-3 wins, but betting on just one game means you either win or lose.
7  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who are the most vulnerable on: November 07, 2024, 04:19:53 PM
I'd focus on two group: low-income earners seeking better financial prospects and those looking to fill in void in their life. After experiencing hardship, such as job loss or heartbreak, they face pressure to pay bills within a short timeframe or seek distractions from their struggles.

Some turn to gaming as a mental escape, seeking financial gains to reinvest instead of drinking. They just want to be in a social environment where there's noise, people chat, play, so they can forget their troubles.

This group is not limited to age or income; anyone can have emotional voids. It could be teenagers, low-income earners, or even the wealthy. It's about one's state of mind at the moment.
8  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Congratulations to the USA -- Trump elected 47th president on: November 07, 2024, 04:03:45 PM
Congratulations to Donald Trump, for winning the most anticipated US election, given him the opportunity to come back and serve the great country again. I don't envy him much because it's said that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, so expectations are very high on him to deliver on his campaign promises. America, is the strongest force when it comes to global matters and as it is now a lot of things are going really bad, wars and crisis everywhere. People are expecting Trump, to cause a paradigm shift to achieve lasting peace especially in Ukraine, Israel and the middle east. I hope that his tenure can bring peace to the wars and crisis areas because whether we like it or not America, is a superpower.
Indeed, the phrase 'uneasy lies the head that wears the crown' is truly apt. This election was highly anticipated by various groups of people and nations with diverse concerns. Everyone looks up to America as a powerhouse, and the weight of responsibility falls squarely on Donald Trump's shoulders to address pressing issues and fulfill his campaign promises, particularly regarding wars, cryptocurrency, and deporting illegal immigrants.

There are high expectations, and I sincerely hope he delivers on his commitments. It's one thing to make promises before taking office, but the reality of governance can be overwhelming. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that things will work out for the best.

What happens in America has far-reaching implications, affecting economies worldwide due to trade and other connections. If things don't go well in America, it's likely to impact other countries in some way. While no one is perfect, I wish Donald Trump all the best in his endeavors. His strong spirit will undoubtedly serve him well in navigating the presidency.
9  Economy / Economics / Re: Every successful person had a mentor on: November 07, 2024, 03:47:24 PM
If one eventually have a mentor it is good because one will be able to learn a lot and avoid some mistakes that can cause one a lot. But having a mentor is not really necessary but what is important is to have the understanding to make things to always come out successfully for you. If you do not have the understanding of how things works having a mentor may not even have any impact.

The interest of having a good understanding of what you are into will make you go far. Understanding is the principal thing when it comes to be be successful with what you found yourself doing. Some times mentors are not perfect which you don't need to rely so much on them to be successful,  but the knowledge you have acquired yourself will bring success.
There is no identical success story; someone might need a mentor to succeed in a field, another person might not. Someone might need to study by themselves, try things by themselves, and learn by themselves and they are ok. However, this doesn't rule out the fact that a mentor is helpful in whatever field you're going into. Someone who has been there before you, made mistakes, learned from them, and can show you a faster way to reach your destination is not a bad idea.

I wouldn't say a mentor is unnecessary because it really helps some people. Everyone's abilities and capabilities differ. Some people are fast-paced learners, some are slow-paced learners, and others are intermediate.
A slow-paced learner might likely need a tutor and a mentor. An intermediate learner might need a mentor to show them one or two things, and they're good to go. A fast-paced learner might not necessarily need a mentor.

So, one thing is, we need to identify which category we fall into and focus on that. How can we improve, whether through a mentor or tutor?  You don't have to look at anybody; just focus on what works for you. If mentorship works for you, fine. If it doesn't, that's okay too. But a mentor can be very helpful in helping you climb the success ladder faster.

11  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can dokctors and hospital and medical service be full ai on: November 06, 2024, 04:18:03 PM
No, because AI was programmed by man, and man did not program 100% of their intelligence into AI. This means AI has shortcomings; it could shut down or malfunction during an operation, potentially harming the patient.

AI was programmed with specific information on what to operate on and how to operate. If something extraordinary happens during an operation, AI will be confused. AI is not as intelligent as man in spontaneous or unpredictable situations.

Furthermore, AI's capabilities pale in comparison to God's gifts to humanity. We cannot create a device that surpasses or equals the abilities God has instilled in humans.

Let's stick to using AI as an assistant in specific areas, such as:

1. Helping diagnose illnesses
2. Aiding research
3. Increasing work efficiency and speed

AI cannot operate fully without human oversight. Absolutely not.
12  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: what is the future of bitcoin in Nigeria? on: November 06, 2024, 04:08:47 PM
Currently over 70% of young people in Nigeria are into cryptocurrency and possession of digital assets, although other age grades in Nigeria have also adopted crypto. The high rate of employment, inflation coupled with the depreciation of the Nigerian currency has caused many young people to involve in cryptocurrency especially Bitcoin. Even those involved in white collar jobs has also adopted the use of cryptocurrencies. If there can be policies that would improve crypto exchanges then there will be a guaranteed future for Bitcoin in Nigeria.
The truth is, a lot of people are looking for multiple streams of income and having heard of cryptocurrency and Bitcoin trading, they're getting involved. Even if they don't adopt it fully at first, they're allocating like 20% time of their time to learn about it, believing they'll profit from it eventually.

Cryptocurrency has a good stand in Nigeria, as long as the government doesn't put policies that restrict it. I mean, we know Binance doesn't operate freely in Nigeria, and some P2P exchanges have limitations, but we're still pushing forward. We're finding ways to utilize cryptocurrency to our benefit.

As long as the market is stable and crypto keeps growing, Nigerians can tap into it for their own benefit, we can make use of it to our advantage.
13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Trump wins against Kamala over a lot of Gambling sites on: November 06, 2024, 04:01:35 PM
Although the election was very tight, Donald Trump's chances of winning were already very high, and his support for Bitcoin and his positive comments about Bitcoin made him popular among young people and this increased his vote count.  However, since Donald Trump is in favor of Bitcoin, it is good for us that he is neutral and we will probably see the price of Bitcoin in a good position.  I looked for some authentic sites to bet on Donald Trump but couldn't find one which is why I didn't do it.  But finally Donald Trump was elected
The Bitcoin community has been backing Trump's campaign from the start because he's not against cryptocurrency. The community knows that if someone who doesn't support Bitcoin gets into power, it will negatively impact the market price affecting everyone involved. That's why many Bitcoin traders were rooting for Trump, hoping he'd win.

Imagine if a non-crypto friendly candidate took office and imposed policies or bans on cryptocurrency and Bitcoin - it would have far-reaching consequences. The market would suffer, and as a result, everyone in the community including us would feel the burn.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can i gambler exceed the age where he doesn't want to gamble anymore on: November 06, 2024, 03:52:45 PM
Quitting gambling at an elderly age depends particularly on the type of gambler. There are two types of gamblers: those who gamble for profit and those who gamble for fun.

A profit-oriented gambler might quit due to financial security concerns and wanting to prioritize responsibilities as they age or retire from their job. They no longer have a steady income, so they want to minimize spending and be more responsible.

On the other hand, a gambler who plays for fun may not necessarily quit at an old age, unless they worry about getting to the casino or staring at phone screens for long . An elderly person who gambles for fun can still visit casinos and relive fond memories with friends.

Age can be a factor, but it's not always decisive. The type of gambler determines their willingness to quit. An older gambler who gambles for fun sees it as entertainment, exercising their intelligence, and staying active socially.

On the other hand, a profit gambler may quit to avoid overspending, having chased profits in their youth.
15  Economy / Economics / Get involved today on: November 06, 2024, 03:41:23 PM
Getting involved, both in the political, economic, social aspect in your country even if you don't venture into all these sectors fully, having basic knowledge about what's going on is important. Listening to news or checking social media updates on this sector is important.

Someone in Africa might be like, 'I don't live in the United States of America, so their election is not my business.' But have you thought of the fact that your African country and these American countries indulge in trade? And your country's currency can be devalued by the exchange in the market.

When a country's currency is devalued, it means you have to earn more to afford certain things. Your country imports and exports to other people by the time there's a crisis in the neighbour trade country, people will be displaced, thinking only about safety me not trade at that moment.

So, if your country doesn't have a business partner to trade with, where do you think the revenue from international trade will come from? This factor impacts your country's economy, these things affect you directly as indirectly as an entrepreneur or a citizen.

And for the tech workers who feel like they have no business offline, if there's crisis in the international  country where you freelance and offer your skills and services, your clients would not actively be online. They would be trying to save their heads, It's only when a country is moving freely and peacefully, and trade is going on, that they'll recognize you as a techie if not you won't see an online market for your skills.

I kept seeing United States presidential election updates on a lot of my friends' status. A lot of  Bitcoin and crypto traders were onto it  because they support Trump who supports crypto. Because restricting laws can be put on the croup market by a government that doesn't support it and it will affect the price in the market which will affect you a Bitcoin holder, no matter your country.

So, we need to learn how to get involved in various sectors in our country. Don't be politically apathetic, when it's time to vote, go out there and exercise your right and protect your interest because no one else will. Learn to read news, get basic information, and however you can contribute to a sector, go ahead and contribute. It's an international collective effort for a better life.

Do you think events happening in another country should be your concern?
16  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Getting a good education on crypto currency needed before investing in it on: November 05, 2024, 02:04:46 PM
When you say good education, e go come be like say you need to study about crypto well well before you go de reason to invest in Bitcoin or any crypto of your choice. Normally, People when still de reason say crypto na ponzi or say e no de beneficial na people when no really sabi how crypto take de work and possibly, because them don hear about the risk when de inside crypto and never pay attention to know say the risk na just based on the volatile nature of crypto and nothing more.

No, try to understand the angle the op of this thread they come from, you need good education no mean say you must use years study am, I believe say wetin him dy try talk is that you need the right education or information.

You know say one of the major problem we get in this country naija,  especially toward cryptocurrency na misinformation or wrong knowledge shared, and to tell you the truth for we country wey we dy so, so many  people still dy see crypto as scam or Ponzi scheme base on say when them been get the information about Bitcoin and crypto na the wrong information them been hear, so misinformation na one major thing the op is trying to talk about when talking about the getting a good education on cryptocurrency.

Then lastly, in other to succeed in any business or any field, your level education on that field na one major thing wey go determine wether you go dy successful in it or not, because having the right knowledge is key in everything you do.
You just said the fact because I saw someone on the thread saying you don't need education to do crypto, I was like, 'ah, ah, even if it's just basic knowledge, you need it. No one said you should look for and study 'cryptology' for 4 years in the university. In anything you want to do in this life, whether it's physical trading or online trading or crypto investment, you can't just go in blindly. You need to ask someone ahead of you, 'What are the pros? What are the cons? How can I benefit? How can I position myself in the market? What are the possible mistakes that a newbie can make, and how can I avoid them?'

It's a blessing to have somebody ahead of you, someone who is more knowledgeable than you in a field, so they can direct you and make your path smoother. You wouldn't make the mistakes they made, and you will be able to get the bag faster. So, yes, that is just it. Having the basic knowledge you need to start out in crypto is very important so you will not make mistakes and end up having regrets and feeling like crypto is a scam when there are people in the space that are using it to make legit money and using it to push certain financial issues they face in this economy.  Knowledge is power. Just aim at getting the right education, and the right information in crypto to start out.
17  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Casinos Use Psychology to Influence Gamblers on: November 05, 2024, 01:44:58 PM
People really like places with lots of different colored lights and lots of people and alcohol and women, and adding the chance to make money, so they can't resist wanting to go to these places to have fun rather than stay at home doing nothing. I've read stories of people who like to gamble a lot in physical casinos and then consume alcohol and sleep with women. For these people, this lifestyle brings them a lot of happiness, especially when they are people who got married early and have regretted the decision they made.

Yeah, what you said are reasons why people go to casinos, aside from the aesthetics, just like in the picture you showed. It can be a really beautiful for one to mix with different people - the noise, the chatter, the banter, the background music, the entertainment, sharing beers with guys, feeling the vibe in general draws people in. And then the urge to win, or that urge that you're getting close to winning, keeps people playing.

True, some people just go there for the vibe and don't even mingle with women, but some people go all out to have fun. It's just like why men leave their homes to go watch football at viewing centers;. You can gamble with online casinos, bet online, but some people, particularly, want to go to physical casinos for the excitement that comes with it.

I mean, it's a beautiful sight when you walk into a well-decorated, nice casino, especially during this festive period. You know, it brings a different form of excitement. And then you get to chat and banter and play, and luck is on your side, you win - that's double the happiness. Casinos know this, so they're always particular about how they build their casino, pretty, colourful, and bring entertainment with music and free drinks for you and your friends.
18  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice is my easiest way of making money on: November 05, 2024, 01:30:50 PM
I used to ( and still) believe dice games, slot games, roulette and the newly introduced aviator games are solely dependent on luck to be successful in them, the only skill required in such games could be the risk management skills and mastering when to stop and when to keep going, I've never heard ( not until now) that people could also tailor out strategies to maintain steady wins in such games, and that's why I'm also very intrigued about the OP's claim of doing so, I didn't wanna jump into conclusion by saying he's probably just messing or trolling around because I don't see any reason for him to do so. But nonetheless, I still maintain that opinion about such games and even if I'm to approach them, I'll do so with such attitude.
It's unbelievable when someone claims to have a strategy for a game of luck. You roll the dice, you don't call the shots. If at some point you're lucky, then you're lucky, but just know that you can't win in a game where you don't know the future outcome. You can't possibly have a strategy.

The only strategy you need for gambling or playing games of chance is risk management like you stated. Be disciplined with your budget; don't let the excitement of being on a winning streak cause you to double or triple the amount you use to play. That could just be the moment when you'll lose it. Stick to your budget and plan; the urge to win big shouldn't make you pull out your funds carelessly.

It shouldn't make you spend your entire day in the casino, neglecting family and friends. I guess he's lucky or in his lucky streak, or maybe give him the benefit of doubt – he figured out a way that works for him. But the timeframe he used and how he doubles it hmm, I'm still thinking about it.
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fathers should get equal paternity leave. on: November 05, 2024, 01:13:25 PM
Companionship is one of the most important connections human beings crave, most especially from one's spouse. For a woman who has just given birth, it would be a very nice feeling if they could have their husbands beside them during this process.

Childbirth is a biological process that is normal, but also takes a toll on the psychological and mental health of both parents. Though men hardly show their emotions, but if you've met a man who lost a child and seen how broken he was, you will understand that the pain and joy of nurturing a child doesn't only depend on the mother.

The man also deserves leave because childbearing is a family thing,  both the mother and child need the man's support, care, and protection, as well as a great bond as a family, not just a mother-to-child bond, but rather a parent-to-child bond.
Making money available to the family to have provisions for everything mother and would child need to stay comfortable should be what a man should bother himself with mostly. If am taking a leave to stay at home what my newly born child and mother what am I staying to do? Is It to change diaper, breastfeed the child  or what?

Women are giving childbirth leave:
To give them time to heal.
Get them psychologically fit from the labour process stress. Etc.

What is a man taking the leave for?

I believe that both parents should plan ahead financially for a child. A one- or two-month leave shouldn't lead to financial struggles. Childbirth isn't unexpected; it's a nine-month process. Parents should have investments.

Working couples, mom and dad, deserve support during this time. Maternal leave is essential, and paternal leave should also be considered. Women go through postpartum recovery, and having a supportive partner is crucial. While family members may help, having your partner alongside you makes a significant difference.

Paternal leave, even if just one month, allows men to bond with their child and support their partner. It's not necessary to choose between work and family; remote or hybrid work arrangements can provide flexibility.

Childbirth affects both parents emotionally. Men can experience depression due to societal expectations of toughness. Paternal leave acknowledges their emotional struggles and allows them to support their partner's physical and emotional healing, bond with their baby, adjust and appreciate fatherhood.

Paternal leave period can be shorter than women's, but it's should be a thing. Both parents should have financial plan before the baby arrives so that can prioritize family .

Fatherhood is more than providing; it includes being present and involved too. And it's not a crime for men to learn basic childcare skills like changing diapers and bathing. Making a child is a joint effort, raising a child should be a joint effort too with unique contributions from both parties.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the worse state of an economy cause a billionaire to go broke? on: November 05, 2024, 12:58:06 PM
I won’t believe he went broke because of the state of the economy. There must be a reason why he went broke; maybe he got scammed and something like that, but saying due to the state of the economy, I’m not sure; you are saying billions. That is not a small amount of money; obviously it may be due to another problem.

Going broke for a billionaire should probably take some time, or maybe it happened swiftly, and he couldn't grasp the situation, or he saw a gradual decline but was too shy to speak up or ask for help. Maybe he thought he could fix it before everything went out of hand.

But going broke for a billionaire could happen due to mismanagement of funds and assets - losing assets and having more liabilities. It's impossible that he was duped, although I feel he could have reached out to people earlier on. It's not something you hold onto and allow to consume you.

It can also be that he indulged in certain businesses without opening up to his partner or financial advisers, and when it all went wrong, he couldn't find the courage to speak up early and seek help before he went broke. So that could just be it.

So, yes, it's possible to go broke because money is meant to be spent, normally. You have to keep reinvesting, because if you are not investing and a huge sum of money is leaving either way, you're bound to go broke. It's not rocket science that a billionaire can go down.

I just feel a billionaire should not go broke to the point of begging. He should have connections; investments and certain things to hold him. The list goes on - he won't be buoyant the way he was, but not to the point of begging. There might be other missing factors in this scenario though.
