1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful this coming Black Friday on: November 24, 2020, 08:21:52 AM
I'd recommend everyone on this forum watch out for stuff that gets posted on this forum more than anything honestly. Wouldn't be the first time a massive number of people on this forum have gotten scammed from a black friday store opening.

3  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud mining - why? on: June 08, 2020, 11:10:51 PM
Can someone help me understand the point of cloud-mining and why anyone would buy a cloud-mining contract? For every one I've looked at, the cost of the contract far outweighs the amount of bitcoin that would be mined, so why do people buy these contracts?
most people usually don't want to financially commit to a profitable mining setup. 'cloud mining,' as it is nowadays is attractive for people new to the cryptocurrency scene as it appeals as 'free money.' however, as they are new, they're usually unaware of the prevalence of pyramid schemes related to cryptocurrencies.

The only way I can see it 'could' be beneficial is if you purchased a contract some time in the future at a fixed price, and by the time your mining contract begins the value of bitcoin has risen significantly and outweighs the cost of the contract - or is that the point, like some sort of gamble?
i've said this many times before in other threads: there is no reason for a business to sell you their resources at a loss. you are not making money off of this, they are. on the chance there was a cloud mining op that was legitimate, they would have zero reason to help out a consumer make money when they could be using the hardware to make more money; hence by selling you this service, they ultimately make money off of the consumer.

cloud mining hasn't been legit since cex.io anyways. i'm more than comfortable labeling any recent cloud mining op that pops up as a scam with cursory examination.

Dear all,
This is my first post on the forum and I would like to share my experience.

~

You could have avoided the experience if you would have gone through their topic and paid attention to older members:

ah you beat me to it, i was going to post that here.

but yes, they hit a lot of red flags, learn from your loss and move on. There's not much you can do assuming you paid in bitcoin. do your research and learn what the red flags are.
5  Other / Meta / Re: Effect of signature bans on: September 25, 2019, 06:08:34 AM
I don't really have any special takeaways from the data above, think it's not shocking to see people who are sig banned to disappear completely and stop posting. It's not going to be shocking again when their bans come to an end and they get back to their usual posting habits aka being extremely active. [1] It is what it is.
maybe sig bans should include a 'x number of posts without a spam / plagiarism infraction' required in addition to the 6 month time period (or w.e it is) to lift the ban. would provide a bit more deterrent to spam / plagiarism, and prevent users from going straight to spamming after the time is up.

- show your mining farm ( you should record a video that shows your mining farm with the mining equipment in full operation )
As for the videos of the datacenter and the team - we will provide you with them soon Smiley
'soon'  Roll Eyes

and still nothing to back up that bitmain partnership claim either.

17  Other / Meta / Re: Don't know how to report this guy? on: July 10, 2019, 02:20:08 AM
This guy is bumping their bounty thread without caring forum rules. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2097609
If you can look his post history he didn't post anything interesting and just making one word multiple post for bumping their bounty thread. I don't know how to report that kind of bumping spam?
multiple bumps within 24 hours (roughly) are not allowed; whenever I see something similar I usually just report stating this rule. for this instance, I would go with something along the lines of 'spamming multiple bump posts all within a small timeframe, delete posts + temp ban'
18  Economy / Gambling / Re: MintDice.com – The World's Best Fully Featured Casino. Play or Invest! on: July 09, 2019, 08:00:57 PM
What game providers do you use?

Quote
But when you've got the best games, the best coins, and the best features of any online crypto currency casino, it's hard not to be.

We have built every single game ourselves from the ground up. Hence we don't use any game providers.
We did that intentionally so that we could make them all Provably Fair and integrate them seamlessly into our own platform.
out of curiosity, how much bug testing prior to launch has your team done? that aside, having internally developed games should be a huge plus since you won't have to wait on a provider to respond in case of a bug / other problems.

Oh that is cool,,, I would think it would cost you guys a lot more just to host such big amounts of data and then stream it out, your bandwidth would be gone quickly. MY suggestion is just to use one of those crypto streaming places like Dlive, because a lot of crypto players are there,,, good audience!
If this is a feature they intend to implement, bandwidth should be a trivial aspect, and their dev team should have already taken into account the requirements for providing this service. besides, streaming doesn't take up as much bandwidth as it used to; technology has progressed a fair amount in that aspect.

I just noticed that there is a stream feature, I think this is really something unique,,, a lot of people already post on Youtube their gambling strategies for dice especially, and this is a great feature to have to make a competition for users,,, show people how they can turn 0.00001 into 0.001 the fastest, for example.

Which platform are you going to develop for streaming?
users have done this independent of a casino's services for some time; I remember people streaming a lot using third party services just about every day in PD chat, there was a fair bit of participation most of the time. It's just the casino deciding to provide an internal service for the users.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serious question about Bitcoin. Is it a reliable and stable investment? on: July 09, 2019, 11:06:02 AM
My tactic: keep buying small amounts of btc, this way you buy at low and high dollar/btc rates.

Eventually it will be worth much more.. my guess.
that's the sentiment most die hard bitcoin believers have. It's definitely paid off in the last few years for people with this mindset.

i would say the prospects are good. personally, i'm betting the price will be much higher in 5-10 years.

nothing is set in stone though. it would surprise me a lot, but bitcoin could still return to a bear market from here to sub-$3k levels. the odds are low considering the momentum and gains of this rally, but it's possible. keep that in mind when investing with retirement money. usually people put those funds into very conservative investments, not assets that could possible halve in value over the next month.
this exact this has happened in the last few years, and it can definitely happen again. however, my personal belief is that with cryptocurrencies taking offthe way it is now, I don't believe any significant crash is likely without some major event setting it off. likewise, I think the price is starting to stabilize quite a bit, and without some major stimulus, I don't see the price rising in any significant way anytime soon.
