101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: RE[ANN] Saturncoin [SAT] - Fast - Fun - Secure - With purpose ● Official Thread on: April 09, 2014, 01:25:29 PM
Spent a few checking into all the links on the first post. And all the communication channels appear to be active and have plenty of useful info in them. The culture here at bitcointalk tends to push new coins to their own space quickly, this is the primary reason you don't see much activity here.
    Website: www.saturncoinfoundation.org

Last activity from the devs is only a few days ago, so I wouldn't worry about them abandoning the project.  I have been around crypto for awhile and the excitement on alts comes and goes. If this coin is to gain any traction, it needs more active community support.

Here are a few ideas:
Change the coin name to honor Satoshi  - ie SAT
Create a foundation that can direct the coindevs for the community.
Create a donation address that the foundation can use for promoting the coin.
Create a promo team that can handle some of the translations for you since English is clearly not the first language of many.
Have the foundation update a timeline and project list.
Ask the community which features are needed and have the foundation start the progress. ( Ie android wallet, coin services, markets etc.)

As a community, you are in your rights to form together and demand more from the dev team. If they can't handle it, a community fork might be warranted.

Just my 2 cents.

disclaimer: Have a nice chunk of sat sitting with all my other alts.

Support each and every one of the points you exhibit and am willing to donate if used for a good team development and promotion of SAT.
I still think the fundamentals of this coin are good.

Guess we have to start somewhere. I have started a donation address:
SRW2dgjcTJu328G2cDZGhpmAasgAAZbDsY

This address is controlled by me, voting on expenses will be done by polling the community.  Anyone holding 1million or more SAT will be able to sign a message and vote for funds to be spent. Once a project list is together, I will post it online and we can see about moving this forward based on voting. Also if you would like to be a member of the foundation, please post a message here with what you plan to do to advance this specific altcoin. I will then setup voting addresses that can be used for each foundation member. Funds raised during voting will be added to the development fund.

I am the maintainer of this address. Bob

I just sent 1 million to start us off

Although it renaming it does not seem a good idea (I think it would create confusion)

Damn was trying to sneak that in there. O the irony it would be.

105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Security flaw found in almost all crypto related software on: April 08, 2014, 03:13:26 PM
Very real issue if your website is using https with openssl 1.0
The proof of concept leaks keys, cookie data, username/password etc. I would hold off on logging into many of the homegrown exchanges for a few until they address it.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] paccoin a new SHA256D coin is being introduced on: April 03, 2014, 08:39:23 PM
Amazingly PAC seems to be alive and chugging along quietly in the background.
As a community, perhaps we should buy a cruise-ship to stake a claim? Guess we could find a nice aircraft carrier for sale.

107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: **MUST READ** NobleCoin Founder addresses "The State of Alt Cryptocurrency." on: April 03, 2014, 04:18:18 PM
This was a good read and worth the time.
Ideas for improvements:
Add a few graphics showing average coin life, # of coins released in last year etc.
Add graphics showing the standard expected value adjustment when a coin hits a major exchange ( this has been mitigated since we have a ton of random exchanges now)
Add a small bio for each of the more vocal community members. :-)

Good luck.
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: March 31, 2014, 02:43:05 PM
So I was thinking about the robustness to network attack and wanted to bring up a few points that could prove useful.

Random port assignment - Right now easiest way to shutdown btc is to block the ports that they use. These are coded into the client. Having a system in place that dynamically bounces to different ports based on an algorithm might be useful.

Packet Inspection - another easy way to shutdown btc is to drop packets that match the fingerprint. Consider having packets wrapped in an http or video obfuscation layer so they appear as normal traffic.

Just a couple of random thoughts.

::insert to the moon meme here::::
Mostly posting so I can follow thread since I dropped some btc into it. :-)
Guess I will add something constructive.
Originally when I invested I was thinking SAT as in Satoshi. :-)

Not much support in the 30's on mintpal. If you have a profit and  have invested what you can't afford to lose, be sure to take some of that and enjoy yourself. I think we will be at 20-25 for awhile until things relax. Going afk on this coin for a bit. tootles.

The problem of crypto is that it always repeats the same stupid model.

First phase - nobody cares, its called "randomisation phase". Just a coin release and nobody knows what will happen. You cant own them all because there are gazillions of coins coming to the market so even the best investor has to satisfy with random luck when choosing which coin should "make it".

Second phase - pump. It depends only on the success of its own success. Market cap or future market cap is totally irrelevant. Pumped coins get more pumped and point attraction. Its typical for them that the value reaches the value which the coin would get in few months or years in the best scenario of its future.

Third phase - dump. After peaking there appears a dump which takes usually few weeks. People realize that the value is really too big and start selling. It takes a while until the coin loses all value made by pump. Then usually comes the next phase

4th phase - re-pump. When the value gets low enough and the coin gets slowly forgotten, there usually comes a re-pump usually made by new hype, few whales or just because it has fallen to satoshi value and technically it cant drop more. Because the coin is slowly forgotten, not too many sellers are active and watching the market so the pump is now possible again.

And then follows the 5th phase - last dump. After the last pump and dump the coin is usually stabilizing and being useless for Pump and Dump so it gets totally forgotten and left by everybody who is trading it for profit only and now the coin must show up his real abilities and innovation.

No coin has survived the 5th phase yet except bitcoin and maybe litecoin (however its discutable because litecoin has no real use). Doge is now between 4th and 5th phase. Mint is at 2nd phase.

Its very annoying that the price went to insane hights and we still dont know even a shit about its functionality. Will do the PoS work? Will the PoS be positive? The coin is one big pre-order, you pay for something what didnt show up yet. And its very annoying for real investors because they cant make a fair buy-in when the coin shows some potential. Just because they will come too late in potential dump phase no matter how well the coin will work.

In the meantime, that premine is going to make the creators bank

Mintcoin is unique, being negative about it won't get you anywhere. Maybe invest in Karmacoin, you might need it.

Really? Cause I see PoS implemented in Peercoin and Ultracoin, as well as various others.

To my knowledge, no coins are purely POS. Only mint does (after 5 weeks of mining)
Keep in mind that the POW mining goes to 1 per block, so the coin is never relying on just POS to mine transactions.

Gentle reminder to folks that are new to this game. Please don't invest more than you can afford to to lose in any crypto. We are all playing pass the hot potato.
Also. ATM there are 16 billion coins floating around. Please keep in mind how fucking big this is. 16,000,000,000 so 999 million x 16.
1 million is currently valued at 0.4 btc

On a more positive note, I will be on irc #mintcoin on freenode in a few to do a giveaway for those that need more.

I think to a point it doesn't matter,  I view crypto currencies as the next/new stores of value for the digital age.   Sure we will still have NYSE, Nike and Komatsu however.  For the younger generations I suspect a digital asset of mathematical rarity will make as much sense as a company that makes shoes fairly well.    Or more specifically I don't think a coin has to be widely traded to be of use.   I think MINT could be a purely speculative investment that might really pay off regardless of if it finds much Utility.

The world seems hungry for Crypto,  who knows what is going to happen next.

I think utility might not be entirely pertinent at least as a means for speculative adjustment. A few of the major coins with utility will start to become indispensable. Although admittedly with the wrong adjustment we can still see hyper inflation (regardless of being a capped coin supply or not) in the same way we have external risk factors influence financial crisis.

It seems to me that the younger generation is clutching onto things like crypto as many struggle to make serious financial gains through traditional means. I wouldn't explicitly refer to any crypto in the same way as I'd see public companies because production and service value are major factors in their market valuation. They're not entirely speculative, it's not a chicken and egg scenario. Their production value signals market adjustment. Rather than arbitrary 'out of thin air' adjustment.

Crypto like Mint is more in line with gold/silver/art/diamond/ruby holdings, where crypto like BTC/Doge are seemingly set to be more in line with USD/Euro/etc currencies that are dependent on their utility. ie the amount of produced goods or services that their 'money' (crypto) can buy. In a lot of ways Mint is a little more sincere than a lot of commodities where we have a difference between 'perceived' and 'actual' supply that is itself manipulated a great deal. But it's also a little naive to think that because we're here right now we will benefit most from the next financial instrument. What's to stop the next kid deciding they didn't get their fair share, so they want a large chunk of the crypto market by creating their own coin? Not a lot at the moment. The barriers to entry are tiny. As a matter of fact, it's exceedingly easy to start a new coin. There needs to be differentiation, and something involving more than a nice green tinge that determines value.

I'm interested to see what happens to the entry requirements of crypto over the long term, and the adoption of new crypto. If you consider we currently have less than 100 cryptos that make any sort of long term sense, will we see another 100 over the next year? Or will we see more like 2,000 additions over the next year? The reason real world (natural) commodities serve as a valid indicator for 'wealth' is that there aren't any new ones to be found. Other artificial commodities like art are entirely speculative, new artificial (and limited) commodities come up on a regular basis, but it takes skill/talent (and a lot of luck) to become the next Picasso.

The technical side of coin creation is moot at this point. Anyone can create one. Community building, competent & responsive devs & a fast/secure network are what makes a coin succeed.  As a community we have the ability to move this coin to the top.  We as a community still have issues to address, but over-all we are going great.

I am supportive of  a strong community and accountability of the devs. I do not support the creation of a 'foundation' or central cabal. The basis of crypto is that if a coin changes for the worse( ie doge infinite inflation) the community has the ability to accept/decline that change by mining. This is a fallacy since the coin devs are usually inline with the major pools and mining continues on the new fork.

Just my 2 cents.

phark, Chr0nus, phark again and zuphzuph since a previous winner won. Zeak also won, but left and didn't return so forfeited the 100k

This coin really has potential, been mining some and bought at different levels.

My only concern, is the premine.  Is the dev going to be transparent about what they are doing with it?  700MM is a LOT of coins.  As a community we should hold them accountable.

Look what happened to EAC, 270MM premined, everyone said no big deal, same script you hear with all premined coins. premine for bounties, giveaways, development, support and maintenance, new feature developments etc.

What bounties have been paid already?

What bounties are still outstanding?

How much has been given away already?

How much are allocated for future giveaways?

What new features/developments do you plan to implement?

I think a good percent of those coins should go into establishing a MintCoin Foundation.
Really let outsiders know this is a serious coin looking long-term.

thoughts?

I saw the team give 500k for the mac qt. :-)
