What if the chinese firewall is delaying all P2P connections to and from china and so we get only stales?

I am using cgminer via guiminer, after 20 minutes of mining with 396khash/s I got only 7 stales/invalids Sad

It is NOT intensive. If that software create so many problems to your computer, then the computer have problems. Serious problems.

It is quite intensive, the verification uses up to 80% of my Phenom 2 X6 1100 (all six cores) and the temp goes 15° C up (from 30 to 45).

Three days ago I mined Feathercoins solo with 396khash/s (6950) for about 6h but I got only 2 stales/invalids, so i went back to LTC pool mining.

A pool just reduce variability. As you noticed, by solo mining it takes tons of time to find a block but you keep all the reward, in a pool the reward is divided but the pool finds more blocks. In the long term the reward is the same.
