101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Colored Coins and Coinprism takes Bitcoin to a whole new level on: May 14, 2014, 01:04:45 AM
it seems the announcement is premature. the site is not working yet
102  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: enormous outgoing bandwidth with Satoshi client v0.9.1.0-g026a939-beta (64-bit) on: April 28, 2014, 11:57:47 PM

I checked this, and among the top IPs there's a swiss guy who runs Satoshi client version 0.9.99  Shocked
Is he just having fun with the source code,  Or is 1.0 in the works and he's testing it?
(another option: he's from the future)
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / where is MaidSafe crypto described? on: April 26, 2014, 11:03:52 PM
Hi,
may be I just fail at googleing, but I can't find a proper technical description of
how maidsafe is supposed to work. I'm mostly interested in the proof of resource
and whatever is the analogue of "blockchain" for the safecoin (the "token").
I'm not looking for the implementation details or the source code, just a paper to read
so that I can  understand how it is supposed to work.

Their whitepaper is pretty vague.  It just says that  Safecoin .... will be injected into network using the storage space related mining procedure.  What is this mining?

Also for Proof of resource it doesn't say how cheating is prevented, how the transactions are ordered, etc.
It just says If any cheating is detected, the used_space will be changed to reflect that.
But doesn't explain who defines cheating, etc.

In short, I'd like to see a proper paper with all the necessary crypto details and proofs wherenever necessary.
Does such a paper exist?
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Western Union Survey on: April 24, 2014, 02:21:53 AM
during one of those rallies ( I think it was about a year ago) WU said they were planning to start working with bitcoin.
It cause another big jump in price ... but that was it. I haven't heard of that since.
105  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Lost password to wallet.dat | 11.7 BTC in wallet | Willing to sell on: April 23, 2014, 05:24:21 PM
you have to try and restore your corrupted keypass files. May be offer a reward for fixing those, without giving away wallet.dat - someone may give it a try. Working on wallet.dat directly is pretty much hopeless in this situation.
106  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Vault of Satoshi Launches Full Proof of Solvency (Not Just an Audit) on: April 21, 2014, 11:01:10 PM
would you mind elaborating what you mean by "full proof"?
That is, what information you provide and how can one verify its validity.
107  Economy / Services / Re: Bitminer At Ramada Hotel Longterm on: April 16, 2014, 03:14:35 AM
buy a router. connect it to your laptop/computer and connect your ants to it.
Setup a bridge on your laptop and connect it to the hotel internet.

setup an alarm on your laptop when the connection goes down  - hotel
internet is really unreliable- the fancier the hotel chain the shittier the internet (don't ask me why).

Alternatively, get a cheap mobile data plan and a mobile and setup an independent
connection. I bet you can get that for under 0.2 BTC

unsafe and insecure it is on this forum

did you guys get a written statement from John K that he provided the escrow for R1?
I suppose this may be necessary in the court at some point.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Family just bought Bitcoins! Finally! on: March 31, 2014, 02:51:02 PM
how easy is it to  buy/sell btc in Pakistan
(for someone who doesn't have an account in a foreign bank)?

 How much (if anything) would
you  need to pay on top of say bitstamp rates (due to possibly larger spreads and/or
fees for deposit/withdrawals)?
112  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: new paper: Securing Bitcoin wallets via threshold signatures on: March 31, 2014, 02:46:44 PM
Very interesting paper!

Just to check my understanding on one point. In the suggested approach
there's an owner of the full private key, who then can share this private key
so that "m of n" transactions can be made, but he still can use the whole private
key to spend the balance himself. Is this correct?

That's a major difference with respect to the multisig approach.

113  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Trusted resolvers of short bitcoin addresses on: February 26, 2014, 04:06:58 AM
no need for trust. Look up firstbits
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia Banning Bitcoin on: February 01, 2014, 03:09:33 AM
The text calls bitcoins "virtual currencies" and warns against using "virtual currencies".

In a separate paragraph it notes that it is illegal to issue "surrogate currencies"

The text does not imply in any way that "virtual currencies" are "surrogate currencies"
thus not implying that the former ones are banned.

However, it also warns that providing a service involving virtual currencies to companies (not individuals)
will be considered as a potential involvement in dubious (yes, it uses a rather vague term)
operations as per the money laundry legislation.  (text in brackets mine)

Our experienced trial lawyers have high confidence in the tack we're taking.

sounds reassuring.

I might pass by HI this summer - if we get a full BTC refund by then, I'll stand you a drink  of praise and commendation    Cool

Should we be part of this?

Yes, this or another lawer - litigation all the way.
I think that's the only reasonable option now.
(The hope is that HF will offer us a settlement before actually going
to court)
117  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED*]R1B: HashFast Baby Jet Upgrade Promo - DZ MC Round 1. Batch 1. Mahalo! on: January 20, 2014, 12:27:20 PM
... just wanted to add - legal action will not be quick,
but I think it's important to let HF know that we are taking
it and are very serious about it as fast as possible. They might
offer us some settlement (like, a full refund  Roll Eyes ) while they still have some money left.
118  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED*]R1B: HashFast Baby Jet Upgrade Promo - DZ MC Round 1. Batch 1. Mahalo! on: January 17, 2014, 09:10:09 PM
I vote B. Though I see how those who paid in USD could be unhappy with this decision, and also
there'll be the question of what to do with the extra money shall we get a full refund.

C is also acceptable to me.

Someone ntoed in the HF thread that cashing the refund check may seriously undermine our position in court (i.e. it may be interpreted as we accepted the terms of the refund). If this is the case I'd prefer not to cash the check but wait for the result of the legal proceedings

thanks, DZ - all our hopes are with you !!
120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which wallet do you store the majority of your BTC in? on: December 31, 2013, 08:28:16 AM
add brainwallet may be.
I know it's "bad" but I store *all* my coins in a single brainwallet address.
