It's kind of a shame if this is a scam. The Bitcoin7.com website has a visual appeal and better user interface far above what we're currently seeing at Mt. Gox and Tradehill. Time will tell whether this is legit or not. Although, $15/BTC seems really low at the moment for an instant buy... good thing that feature isn't working

Just stop responding to them. Think of this as growing pains, it sucks now, but we're going to be stronger/faster.
I would be very interested in a more serious, invite only message board/system. It seems that much of irc has also become polluted.
+1 The first week or so in the forums and IRC channels were awesome. I learned so much... Pretty sure that's not coming back anytime soon

I have 23 coins to play with. I'm a little sad I didn't sell at 30 and snatch them back up at 14, but such is life. Even though I spend a ridiculous amount of time on these forums and the IRC channels, I don't want to be trading every hour as the price goes one way or the other. I'd like to make some money out of this whole thing in the end. Give it a couple years, and what is money at that point? I think the US dollar is on the decline, and that any measure our government takes is just postponing the inevitable. Right now I have bitcoins, I'll sell if I need cash to work within the system. Right now, I don't have that problem, and so I'm perfectly content to sit and wait. I still believe this thing is going to take off, and the short term ups and downs mean nothing. I came in when BTC was at $7. It's still twice that in only 3 weeks. I'll take it and be excited

Don't worry and don't panic. Don't listen to people crying BUY or SELL and just think on your own. No, really do it! Why would it crash and why wouldn't it? Did you forget something? No? Okay, then you know what to do.
+1 I like your post just because you encourage people to actually think. Don't listen purely to what one person or source says. Take in all the factors that you can find, and then, you make a logical decision based on your own circumstances.

According to the Namecoin wiki, the address naming convention for Namecoin addresses has changed to now have them start with an N or M. The Mac Binary I have only provides addresses that start with a 1. Will these still work?

For those of you worried about losing out on mining if the pool gets DoS'd/DDoS'd there's a simple workaround. Just setup a second worker for the same GPU with a lower aggression setting and point it to another pool/your local bitcoin solo server and leave both running. I'm using GUIMiner/poclbm and for every GPU I have one miner/worker set up and pointing to slush's pool and then another for the same GPU pointing to my local Bitcoin client for solo mining.
For example, one of my cards is a 6950 and I have it running with the flags "-v -w 128 -f 1" for the Slush pool miner and "-v -w 128 -f 15" for the solo miner. Assuming the pool is up, I get ~ 369 MH/s going towards slush's pool and ~ 1 MH/s going towards the local solo bitcoin server. If I ever get any connection problems to the pool, the solo miner ramps up to ~ 366 MH/sec and chugs away. Once the pool comes back up it reverses back to just about everything to Slush and the trickle to the solo.
Yeah, it's double the work, especially if you want to use multiple pools and have to manage all the workers on the pool websites as well, but for a bit of extra time during setup, at least you don't have to worry about these DDoS attacks or any hardware failures on Slush's side putting your mining out of commission.
This right here was priceless information that I've been looking for. Thank you good sir.

Wow, what a troll. I haven't bought any bitcoins. I let my miners generate as this is a hobby. Even if this all goes to hell, I'm still not out any money. There's even ways around electrical costs. Those that are interested can PM me for 1BTC.
Does this mean if I PM you, I can have 1 BTC?

I had resolved to go long, but I'm having trouble sticking to it. It's not that I doubt Bitcoin's long-term prospects, it's just that I want more coins. +1 I did manage to snag a few today at around $24. Could've waited and bought at $23, but the upside is... I have more coins

I'm assuming there's a similar command to send namecoins?
Is there some decent documentation on the commands that go with namecoin/bitcoin on the command line?
Read up here: List commands linux: Thanks!

Also, how can I view my namecoin address?

Yep, I tried running Diablo against it, and it keeps saying:
[6/9/11 6:25:03 PM] ERROR: Can't connect to Bitcoin: Bitcoin returned error message: Bitcoin is downloading blocks...
But, it is also providing me with a hashing rate, which doesn't seem to make much sense...

I wanted to try this out, but I could use a little help.
I downloaded the Mac Binary, but since it appears to be console only, how can I tell once namecoind has finished downloading the namecoin blockchain?

Nice work! Can we please get support for Slush's pool?
Works on Motorola Xoom with 3.1 Would be nice to have the resizing enabled for Honeycomb users.

It sounds plausible sure, but until I see it in writing attached to a recognized body of our government, it is nothing more than a rumor.

Nah, just add more moderators.
+1 This I'm sure there are several longtime members who would be honored to help patrol the Bitcoin forums.

In order to promote this wonderful economy, my wife and I would like to offer our spare hours both after work and on weekends for some BTC. I am a current college student with programming experience in C++, C#/ASP.NET, Java, and PHP. I am also more than fairly skilled with HTML, CSS, and javascript/jQuery. My wife is also a current college student and has a ton of experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, HTML, CSS, and jQuery. She also does professional photography. A brief example of our work can be found at http://siouxlandhabitat.org/We can't take credit for the content, but the design and functionality is completely our design. Rates are definitely negotiable, and if you or someone you know has an idea they would like to discuss, please send me a PM. Thank you

Oh I agreed with the money laundering part, and I know that businesses and especially exchanges have to adhere to strict laws in order to be in compliance in that regard.
I was taking issue with the bit about being mandated by law that we use the USD as our currency. I don't believe such a law exists.
