It is really pathetic, that someone is scamming for how much? 20$ in total?
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia Raises 237 BTC Through Donations In One Week on: August 11, 2014, 01:34:30 AM
And they still have the bitcoin donation option burried somewhere in their site...

That doesn't matter much. So are all the other "alternative" options.
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative cryptocurrency is dead on: August 11, 2014, 01:32:53 AM
I am not sure you can call a 500,000,000 USD part of cryptocurrencies "dead". But that is just my opinion...

That is one way to look at it.

Another way might be that 900+ coins pooled together only come to about 7% of the crypto market, with BTC being 93%.  And, oh, by the way, LTC is just about half of that 7% and it's tough to make a strong case that LTC is on the rise.  So, subtract out two coins and now you're talking about 900+ coins totalling $250mm and 3.5% of the market.

So? This is about network effect, and right now they don't have that much of that. But once cryptos go mainstream, this will change drastically.
104  Other / Off-topic / Re: I just donated to Wikipedia. Using Bitcoin. on: August 10, 2014, 07:11:26 PM
they raised something like $150k in bitcoins in.. about 1 day right? there were probably so many people who wanted to donate in btc, and finally when wikipedia does accept it, it floods in.

About 7 days. Yeah, volume already went down, still impressive numbers. For that specific week, it was ~20% of all donations!

They decided to reduce reward to 125 STR even for old-registered accounts. WTF? It's unfair!

They reduced it for everyone. Also they said in the beginning that they will use a first-come-first-serve approach.

Still this is fckn unfair. They better need control what they are saying. If I was told that I get about 900 STR then it SHOULD be 900 STR. Or they just fckn scammers. A lot of ppl are disappointed and mad about it.

You get 900 when you signed up, but by the time you received it the terms have changed.

109  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to earn 52000 BTC on: August 10, 2014, 06:57:56 PM
So basically, its better to start a business then buy bitcoin and be bitcoin rich lol.

This depends on whether you can earn more BTC back then you invested.

@question authority: Wikimedia needs to sell those coins. Like they need to sell stock donated to them. Even if they'd love to hold them, they can't because of the structure of their foundation. Read it up..

I don't believe for one second that they bought Bitcoin for pennies and sold it later for a huge profit. If that were true why not just start accepting Bitcoin donations several years ago when they were first approached? Also, where did they exchange them? Do they have an address that can be checked? That's total BS. They finally know an easy way to get cash for them so they accept them now.

What are you talking about?

I said they can't hold them. So they need to exchange them immediately. They got 237 BTC through bitpay/coinbase and then received USD from those companies.

Not sure what you are saying..

Sorry quoted the wrong person. The guy above said they claim to have bought coins for pennies.

Yeah, I know they need the cash. That was my original statement. They wouldn't care if you gave them peanuts and beer as long as they can get cash for them easily.

Oh, sorry for the cunfusion then!
112  Economy / Economics / Re: Would u pay in bitcoin? on: August 10, 2014, 06:49:17 PM
Even if that holds true, this is changing everyday. I don't know when you started getting into bitcoin, but basically years ago it  was 100 times harder to get btc.

114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: August 10, 2014, 06:41:48 PM
I want to sell 20M Qora in bulk for 5BTC. Contact me if interested.

About 25% too expensive Wink

Selling in bulk usually needs to offer a price below market rate.
115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Anonymity so important to you? on: August 10, 2014, 06:36:10 PM
If bitcoin were really truly anonymous in 100% It would be great, but there are ways i.e blockchain to track your coins. While it does not show you directly your location or name it can be tracked. But it is still better that credit cards or other online payments method...

How would Bitcoin work without the Blockchain? I don't think you 'got' the basic idea or principle of Bitcoin. It is important that every transaction is visible and accountable for by the whole network and everyone participating in Bitcoin!!!

It is important that the transactions are secure and can be verified and not be counterfeited, but it is not important that they are visible to everyone, Monero and other cryptonote coins fixed this issue, do not drink the kool-aid that your finances should be public with a thinly veiled line between you and your btc address in real world usage Smiley

Bitcoin could do this too with a DAC ontop of it that mixes the coins while removing the taint. This will come sooner or later.

Lets hope its good enough and not flawed like darkcoin's coinjoin.

A DAC could pool all BTC in one address and let you have a "balance" that you can withdraw whenever you want. In such a system there would literally be no taint. But first there needs to be a good DAC implementation ontop of BTC.
116  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you do if you received 20 bitcoins? on: August 10, 2014, 06:35:08 PM
I would buy some sha256 or scrypt equipment. Or buy different cryptos at low price. Donate some to different developers. So many ways to spend them.

you probably found the quickest way to get rid of those coins again. lol
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: August 10, 2014, 06:33:14 PM

Yeah, some poeple made the right decision in buying some Stellar shortterm. Still I don't really see the added value just now. It will come from trading things ontop of Stellar, not stellars itself.

which exchange is the price from?

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/stellar/#markets

Justcoin and BX Thailand

thanks, i found this chart: http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/period-charts.php?period=today&resolution=hour&pair=str-btc&market=justcoin

A little curious on how the coin can have market cap when it is "free".

Something is worth as much as other people are willing to pay for it. Just because something is free, doesn't make it worthless (think about water)
