101  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: COINBASE.COM - warning on: September 25, 2013, 06:47:15 PM
I made a deposit in bitcoin to my coinbase account today and while usually a deposit would show up immediately as "pending," my deposit is still not showing up in any way after 7 confirmations.

I have emailed them and will post back here when the problem is resolved, hopefully soon.

Having to wait for them to resolve this issue may make me reconsider using and or recommending that others use coinbase.
You wont change my opinion on them.

Posting FUD on BCT wont make Olaf respond any quicker...
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING: BTC-e now bans users for mentioning mcxNOW or realsolid [UPDATE] on: September 25, 2013, 05:34:07 PM
They probably just ban all advertising because if they don't then before you know it people will be using the trollbox to advertise their own pet projects all the time and it loses it's utility at a chatbox. I know sites over a decade old that still do that, even though it might add to the discussion. A non-issue.
moderating trollbox is like trying to turn a hooker into a housewife.

Dance little monkeys, dance!

....This is what BFL stands for?

Nope. BFL either stands for "Big Fucking Liars" or "Bit Fucking Late!".

Guy's cmon there was never a "september promise" where do you guys come up with this shit?

 Cheesy Cheesy

The 'shit' is from the BFL forums. You can see my thread (in which Josh replied) at https://forums.butterflylabs.com/off-topic/4145-backlog-cleared-september-nuh-uh-warning-maths.html

I was joking, if not obvious. There's a whole thread on the BFL forums where josh goes through each argument that there was never a "September Promise", and (attempts to) refute them.

edit: added links

I got banned for responding to someone who asked for CanaryInTheMine's web address. When I asked why, they said it was for "questionable integrity". "Yeah," I said. "Thats what I told your mother, Koolio..."
105  Economy / Speculation / Re: Difficulty +30% in about 3h on: September 25, 2013, 02:50:56 PM
It does affect the price, as money will be flowing back from mining into bitcoin and other more attractive bitcoin related investments. There was a big gold rush for mining equipment and now that is coming to an end. There is a lag before that shows up in the difficulty though, I don't expect the exponential rise to level off before February 2014.
difficulty and price have 0 correlation.

Wrong. But believe what you want.
I will, because a fact is a fact.

I believe they still offer the bonus if you sign up via an affiliate link for coinbase. Mine is in my signature =)
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if mining suddenly becomes unprofitable for most miners? on: September 24, 2013, 11:24:07 PM
"What if mining suddenly becomes unprofitable".

...too late.

People will continue to mine, however. If not to protect the value of their BTC but also for tx fees.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen when the 21M bitcoin will be minned on: September 24, 2013, 05:01:20 PM
I do not believe that mining difficulty or block rewards correlate to the fiat value of btc.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen when the 21M bitcoin will be minned on: September 24, 2013, 04:54:10 PM
miners will work for tx fees...

116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] BTC for everyday purchases on: September 22, 2013, 11:50:38 PM
also curious, if eBay/PayPal accepted BTC but maintained the same fee structure, would people use it?
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] BTC for everyday purchases on: September 22, 2013, 11:47:23 PM
I buy my ecig liquid from a place called vaporstation and they threw in an extra bottle, presumably for paying with bitcoin. Sellers can save at least 3.5% if not more by accepting BTC, I would imagine.

Although if it was for paying with bitcoin, they should make it more obvious =P
