101  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please bail me out - I'm an idiot bought mining gear at the peak on: June 21, 2011, 11:41:13 PM
Well I hate to turn this into my own personal sales thread so let me show u the pic at least HAHA
http://www.flickr.com/photos/64331187@N04/5858492956/in/photostream

biostar TA890FXE 150$
radeon 6870      170$
radeon 5830   150$
sempron 130 +fan     40$
sempron 140 + fan 40$
kingston 1gig DDR SRAM  13$
PCI-e risers (16-16x from cable2000 but shipped from chicago not long ass hong kong!)  Im not gonna run around shipping these 1 by one, but if u want to add them to an order i'll charge 10$ each which is a good deal.

I want to sell the mobo + cpu + fan together as a barebones, if possible.. anything not sold is going to continue mining, so order priority to those buying more of a 'total rig' set up.

8g flash drives with ubuntu + mining stuff:  14$

I'll give tech support anyone trying to get a rig up and running.
cards have not been overclocked, original bios, etc.

I will take paypal, probably to my old company paypal many of you may recognize the company if u are mmorpg gamers Wink
It is 5000+ verified.
I will take bitcoins too but charge like 10% or so + the last tradehill/gox price - but hey small price to pay for the privilege of using the CURRENCY OF THE FUTURE.

min order 200$, I am in schaumburg area, chicago. Prices are all negotiable but dont lowball... all this stuff is tested and works together.

I took some pics after just spending hte last 12 hours (yet another 12 hour day) on the set up... where do u 'radical internet dudes' share your awesome pictures like faceblasters or twitterbox or what?  cuz i dont see a photo option on this forum.. i think u guys will get a chuckle of the gigantic lair of the octopi computers.

I've gotten some interest but right now we're debating whether opening a box is even worth it even after we have sunk costs in a mobo and a free slot for it.. or if its just better to send everything back as is.. also buncha lowball offers.. noone is gonna sell something that goes for 160$ on ebay for 100$ on here, etc.

And those who think 12,000$ is alot of money honestly these bernanke bucks are on their way to being worthless anyway so spend em while u got em i spose... but yeah it was an amoutn i felt safe gambling with.. i dont like throwing money down the toilet tho, which this seems to be a very long and painfully hard way to accomplish just that.

103  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just got off the phone with NewEgg... on: June 20, 2011, 07:20:07 PM
Did this guy just lie to newegg because he wanted to bail on his rig because he didn't want to take any risk on his investment?

Yeah that guy decided this whole endeavor was a fucking stupid waste of time and cut any potential losses before he got disappointed in himself for being such a dipshit.

this is pretty much EXACTLY how i feel... lol... I feel like a dipshit.  I love the conpcet of bitcoins but running out and buying a buncha stuff in the heat of the moment makes me feel like a total idiot.. and newegg is not going to be hurting trust me, most of this stuff WONT be returned, it'll be run by miners trying to recoup some of their losses and 15% restocking fee on an item they wont have much problem reselling,

I feel very little pity for newegg... they're gonna make out on this like champs.
104  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New Difficulty Calculation on: June 20, 2011, 08:59:51 AM
the only thing that can cause a crash in mining is a crash in bitcoins themselves, a pair trade betweek KWh/$ and Mhash/$ will exist from this point forth, enough participants for the market to be efficient now.

If mining becomes widespread, miners with bitcoins will probably start transacting amongst themselves, so it will be good for adoption in general.  It will be easier to just buy stuff with bitcoins than going thru the nightmare of mt. gox.
105  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New Difficulty Calculation on: June 20, 2011, 08:29:24 AM
generally speaking the idea of making money running a free program on a computer is a pretty sexy concept compared to a hard to understand and very illiquid cryptocurrency.

Capacity is going to increase no matter what anyone says or does on this forum because there's always some new person who can click install on guiminer and run it for free in a computer lab somewhere

I wonder what % of people here have ever even used a bitcoin to transact anything.... I tried and it results in arguments over what a bitcoin is worth, referring to rapidly fluctuating prices on illiquid scammy markets, and basically end up asking for cash instead.

What shop operating at 10-20% typical retail margins is going to spend all day constantly updating/checking bitcoin prices when selling an item they just bought from a distributor at a hard fixed cost?
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill Spam on: June 20, 2011, 12:33:06 AM
this kind of advertising shows what kind of ethics the people running tradehill have.. not exactly the #1 qualification for a guy you entrust with your money and to run a fair exchange.
107  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin mining will never pay off now, at least with GPUs. on: June 19, 2011, 04:07:13 AM

There wasn't very many when I started...and since more than one thread was started for the same thing in the same day it seems odd.

As does some noob who supposedly dumps 10k into mining only to decide that he was stupid.
I actually just copied this bitcoin mining thread from the newbies section, since I couldn't post in the mining section earlier.  I haven't created any other threads since.  This swisher guy really likes following me around.  Grin

Everyone needs a hobby...keeps me away from refreshing mtgox and miner status.

Having a 5 day account and only posting things that discredit bitcoin/mtgox/client software...that points to obvious troll.

You seem to not listen. I have already explained this umpteen times, but I will try again:

I have never discredited bitcoin.  I think it is a great investment.  I only discredit dedicated mining for now.
Mt. Gox has a simple incompatability with IE 8, which I explained.  Other than that, I have had no problem with Mt. Gox.
The client software, I have no idea about.

Click on your account tab...you are aware we can read all of your posts right?  Tell me which one of your posts was helpful or new to the community.  I couldn't find one.

so you read ALL his posts? jesus dude.. GET A LIFE.

Actually 12,000$.... and it WAS STUPID.

Wow...starting multiple threads stating the same crap now.

Everyone, read all posts related to this troll before forming opinions.

I notice on here that people voicing non-majority opinions are now all 'trolls'

No...restating the obvious that has been posted in the sticky for months multiple times in multiple threads...that defines troll...making only negative comments without any new information...that defines troll.

Having a 5 day account and only posting things that discredit bitcoin/mtgox/client software...that points to obvious troll.

There is a pattern.  BTW, beeph you sold that hardware yet...people are offering right?

so am I a troll now? for selling mining hardware on a mining forum? lol
get a life dude.. most people just got into this when they read the recent news blitz, thats why the accoutns are new, because they're NEWBIES.  its not because they live to destroy bitcoins or whatever fantasies u've cooked up.  And 90% of people (especially 35+) dont read all the articles and crap.. if people are repeating the same threads it might be, i dont know.. cuz its happening to lots of people and maybe its TRUE?  i mean where there's smoke...

Most people on the bitcoin forums are FANS of bitcoins, and if they're griping about mining like I am, its because the calculators were misleading and they got in over their head.  It's a complicated system, to say the least.

112  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please bail me out - I'm an idiot bought mining gear at the peak on: June 19, 2011, 02:29:48 AM
I was kind of in a panic earlier, based on what i've seen here I think the solution is to mine full blast until difficulty gets too high, then in a month or so go into real-time power pricing (thanks for this info) and shut down during peak hours, then finally just sell off all rigs to gamers/miners with better power situations than me in approx 2 months.

downsizing the operation from 10 rigs to 6 based on whats open and whats not, selling the rest soon probably... obviously pics will be included as that increases the sellability.

Hoping to break even
113  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: advice on how to overclock 6870 on ubuntu 11.04 32-bit linux on: June 18, 2011, 11:41:42 PM
I got AMDoverdrivectrl installed but seems very limited in what i can do with it.  cant underclock memory more than 100Hz under the CPU, cant take voltage very high either

i had the same problem... imho you're just screwed i dont think msi support ubuntu.
exact same error screen here, same model, tried everything
116  Bitcoin / Mining support / advice on how to overclock 6870 on ubuntu 11.04 32-bit linux on: June 18, 2011, 09:06:29 PM
I've seen alot of threads regarding 6990 and other cards.

I would like advice on what utility to use, what clock/core settings to try.  Where to get the software too!

As of now I'm running around 250 MHash with default settings.  What kind of speeds can i get using just the amdoverdrive tool, without flashing BIOS

117  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much wattage per outlet? on: June 18, 2011, 09:03:08 PM
I have the MSI FX890 chipset 70D mobo (i believe this is what u have too)
and guess what, same problem.  I cant get ubuntu to boot off the live CD, or off a thumb drive.  I have it running on 6 other boards perfectly fine.

I tried for hours to get it to work but failed.  I even posted on the MSI forums (same name at MSI)

It's a problem with the mobo itself, if you get it working please let me know, but i dont see it happening.

EXACT same error kernel thread helper after kernel panic

The electricity is what is destroying you. 15c/kwh is just way too much. Gotta love those greedy city public utilities.

you guys must be kidding. we pay around 0.30 US-$ here for 1 kWh. and it's still profitable

Is there a calculator which will allow u to put reasonable difficulty increases in the formula?

119  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please bail me out - I'm an idiot bought mining gear at the peak on: June 18, 2011, 07:35:16 AM
I can 'afford' to flush 2000$ down the toilet, but I dont particularly like it.  Maybe somehow someone else can make this work.
Please see the title ... i was an idiot.. i got caught up in the gold rush.. and got greedy.  LOL.  No need to rub it in, not exactly feeling great right now.
120  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please bail me out - I'm an idiot bought mining gear at the peak on: June 18, 2011, 07:30:49 AM
the total hashing output should be around 12 ghash, but it would be coming online in the next few days (and im sure for others too)

1) some risers are getting here slow i bought from hk
2) my power supplies are missing cables, so buying those from amazon, getting here in a day
3) one power supply blew up, and a few mobos ran out of stock, and one was DOA.  Was missing a few CPU fans
4) only have 14/40 cards up running @ 250 ghash (havent figured out overclocking on ubuntu yet)

So this limited alot of what i could do because i had 6/7 key components, and waiting on bottlenecks.  they're arriving over the next few business days, but im not going to open any boxes due to return policies.  The price drop isnt so much what killed me as the difficulty.  The 55% pretty much skipped ahead 6 weeks in my schedle - assuming 20% increases over 14 days, in 8 more weeks i will not even be able to pay power to break even.

I have a partner in this so i have 6k@ risk but I dont want him to lose $$ either, I'd feel bad.  There's enough gamers/enthusiasts/IT techs/college dorm kids who either dont have to pay electricity, or dont care, to keep the network increasing in size as long as bitcoins are popular.  If bitcoins arent popular, then the value will go back very low, so I'm screwed either way.  This is more of a 'grass roots' thing and I was dumb to try this.

I'm going to end up keeping the 3.5 ghash i have online to recover what i can from the 'dead money', and return/sell whatever is unopened.  At this point i'm 'praying for a miracle' ( a big bitcoin price increase where somehow difficulty doesnt increase at the same time ).  But in my experience miracles are rare and just trying to cut my losses.
