101  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: minimal profit on: March 03, 2014, 09:35:04 PM
What did you buy ?

What do you think about present conditions ?

Jalapeno. Now I look back at it, I should replace decent profit with small profit. Really not that much.
Looking at the present I think the initial investment has to be much bigger.
Look at this website and compare some hardware and projected break even points and profits.
Has a lot to do with the increase in difficulty which probably be exponential for some time to come.
I hate to say it because I am not a big supporter of alt coins, but I think the profits are less tight there.
102  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: minimal mining value on: March 03, 2014, 08:48:44 PM
When I bought my stuff in the first half of 2013, about $200.
I received it in september, and have made a decent profit since.
103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using 2nd computer/tablet to produce paper wallet. on: March 03, 2014, 08:37:50 PM
What I am trying to tell you is that a second computer is not really needed.
It is also possible to do it from an OS booting from a CD or USB on your normal computer.
It is just a waste to buy a second computer to make a paper wallet.
104  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using 2nd computer/tablet to produce paper wallet. on: March 03, 2014, 08:15:31 PM
I am always a bit skeptical about the steps required to make a paper wallet ventilated by some.
Cumbersome: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=342691.0
versus
Simple: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=312601.msg3355726#msg3355726
But in the end it is your money and responsibility. But I wouldn't get too paranoid, considering some mild security measures it is not very likely that your money gets stolen, especially when it is a small amount.
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin statistical analysis: when will Bitcoin disappear entirely. on: March 03, 2014, 06:58:38 PM
...

there should be a feature to re-issue coins from addresses that remain 10 years or so untouched.

Every once in a while this idea comes up again, and many times the conclusion is that it is not really a problem.
Like Holliday posted it can be solved by switching units and/or increase precision.
106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Brainwallet Question on: March 03, 2014, 06:28:22 PM
Hey at least someone is willing to jump into a career in Bitcoin.

I support that sincere. And I would encourage many more to do so, because we as a community need many more dedicated developers who can make good and secure Bitcoin software and Bitcoin websites.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should we start New Bitcoin? on: March 03, 2014, 05:34:01 PM
The reason for starting a new using bitcoin is simple:
We can assume that 50% of all bitcoins mined are either held by wrong persons, or are lost. It works.
A lot of people are burned by the MtGox theft, therefore they have nothing to lose on switching to a new coin learned a valuable lesson.

If we start to use a new coin Bitcoin more as a currency, the miners can use their hardware to switch over as well secure the network, and effectively abandoning Old making Bitcoin a huge success.
The value of Old Bitcoin will drop to zero skyrocket which will punish preminers, thieves and FBI benefit everybody.

It took me about 20 seconds to obtain the answer to this question. Perhaps you're not ready yet for a Bitcoin-related career?

hint: it's not F

And if you also mention that it is a very imprudent to do it like this, I guarantee you're hired. Tongue
109  Economy / Gambling / Re: Block Chain Lottery on: March 03, 2014, 05:07:19 PM
Good luck with the lottery!

Thanks, did you try it already? Wink

Do you also review lotteries? What is your incentive to do those reviews?
110  Other / Meta / Re: Usage on BitcoinTalk.org on: March 03, 2014, 04:26:46 PM
So I've noticed that postings on this forum have dropped significantly.  What's up with that?

The only thing that I can think of is that there is a significant amount of members that were burnt by the GOX debacle and are now despondent. As a result, there is an avoidance of anything Bitcoin related for awhile.

Probably another result is the change in forum policy with signatures from Moderator Theymos.  He applied it globally so only Full Members and up have color, larger font, etc in their signature lines.

Less new members spamming posts all over the place because they won't get paid the same way with small advertising sigs.

Did not think that it would have such an effect. Is the post rate returned to levels before newbie jail was suspended?
The total downfall in posts is probably a combination of the signature policy and lost interest due to Mt. Gox.

112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tips for minimizing Fees? on: February 27, 2014, 09:43:44 PM
Here is some information how Bitcoin-QT calculates the fees.
You probably have received a lot of small payments. Then the transaction size can become large and your fee can exceed even the amount you want to send.
To minimize try to send all those small payments with one larger payment to one of your own addresses. If that's even to much you must send every time one of your small amounts with the big amount until you swiped up all your funds. But that can be very tedious.
In the future, don't receive dust payments.

Time between deposits and withdraws:

1. 112 min.
2. 64 min.
3. 3 min.
4. 4 min.

Conclusion: Humans are greedy
115  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Did Karpeles simply decide to short bitcoin? on: February 26, 2014, 04:43:05 PM
I find it hard to believe that they just found out to be short of such a big amount.
If you run an exchange, you make sure that everything is monitored closely, every second of the day.
That way, even if 1 satochi is leaked somewhere, you should notice immediately.
The public ledger makes it possible for the first time, that everybody can check every transaction.

But your scenario is interesting, lets see if we ever going to find out what has happened.
116  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin-QT wallet not confirming all night!! Not even 0 out of 6 / & restarted! on: February 26, 2014, 12:59:00 PM
If your delete the wallet you'll not be able to get it back. I hope you didn't have any Bitcoin left in that wallet.

He didn't, otherwise he would not have got part of his coins back. Smiley
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the private key really all that I need? on: February 26, 2014, 12:55:24 PM
I have never done it like that, but if it's somehow possible it would be one of the most save ways to do it.
I'm sure if you search this forum, there will be a ton of tutorials to make paper wallets.
They will warn you for even the most less probable ways to get your keys stolen.
I think some of the safety measures are too extreme, but you never can be too sure.
It's is your own responsibility after all.
118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regulation vs transpanscy on: February 26, 2014, 12:43:21 PM
It's still a wild west out there. The most honest companies will prevail.
And the larger they are, the more people they will attract.
In the end only a few giant corporations will be left.
It always will end this way because of human nature.
And then a new revolution...
119  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: New Message 26thFeb from mtGox on their web by KARPELES on: February 26, 2014, 12:22:42 PM
Should have replied much earlier and should have giving more details. They really keep costumers in the dark.
If the rumors are true about losing so much money, how can they ever recover from that?
120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you earn 0.001 btc fast? on: February 26, 2014, 12:11:49 PM
Get a job and then buy bitcoins.

Don't want to be too sarcastic, but everybody wants to earn money fast.
If it was easy, everybody would be rich. So people who found out how to do it, aren't going to tell.
