I run a relatively small windows partition - usually I just put data directories for programs in my big drive when I install them so I can minimise how much I need to reinstall/backup in the event of an os issue (hangover from the days of reinstalling win95 on a very regular basis lol). Like a few people Ive installed a fair few wallets - who knows what the next big coin will be - but all that blockchain downloading is creating space headaches on my system drive.
Is there a command line switch with the qt wallet to specify a custom data directory? or would it require a bit of coding and recompiling to get it to offer a prompt on where to put the data directory?
I cant be the only one with this issue lol so hopefully someone has a solution....

my two cents for what its worth...
If you are just looking for a fast high return pick the latest premined overhyped coin of the day. With enough hype it will hit an exchange quick enough and as long as you can dump as fast as the premining devs you'll make big money - high risk, high reward
If you're looking for stable, longer term I would probably look at worldcoin or tagcoin. Both seem to have clued up commercial backers and definite realistic plans for a commercial future for the coins. I doubt they will hit btc levels ever (but then I doubt any coin ever will until a crypto currency is a commonly adopted payment method for the average person) but if they can pull of half the things they are trying I dont think hitting LTC levels is impossible

I think the idea of one mega wallet a la blockchain wallet on steroids is awesome but I guess the biggest issue is trust. Although you have a wallet you dont really have total control of that wallet - website disappears tomorrow where are your coins?
If someone could solve it and make it available in a stable, secure and trustworthy package I believe there would be money in it for them. I know personally I'd be willing to pay a small monthly fee to avoid having a hard drive full of blockchains.

total nub question time - havent been at this long :p
I currently use the windows qt client...
1) do I need to do this update? 2) how would I go about backing up my current payment address/wallet balance? 3) how do I put that back into the new updated client?
sorry if the answers to these are obvious to the experienced guys but till now Ive never had to do more than download a wallet and point a miner at it lol
thanks
1. Yes 2. Just backup the file named wallet.dat in your (assuming windows over here) %appdata%/Roaming/FedoraCoin/ folder. 3. You should not need to, the back up is for the worst case scenario. thankyou ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) doing it now edit: yay for nub friendly updates ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) all done no dramas, thanks again ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)
