102  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: September 10, 2018, 07:41:46 AM
This thread has given me an idea. Instead of putting new posters, I might appoint myself a "warner", and I'll pm members and ask them to stop certain practices. These could include.

- All caps titles
- Full quotes in replies
- large redundant images
- necro-bumping

I'm not sure if it will have any effect, but maybe a few will take some notice.

I'm sure it will have an effect. Because I still remember when I have joined the forum I also did the full quotes in replies, but with the time I have learned it shouldn't do even its not violated any forum rules. So I have learned so many things from you but I still didn't agree with you regarding the posting images in a thread. I would agree with you if those images are large redundant images as you stated, but not with other scenarios where sometimes a picture can explain what 1000 words cannot.

Anyway sending a PM before you add the user to your ignore list would be great and anybody here doesn't want to be included in your ignore list.
103  Other / Meta / Re: Make VISIBLE to VISITORS to see RED TRUST on: September 10, 2018, 07:07:11 AM
Since there are plenty of scammers here, wouldn't it be AWESOME to visitors (who don't know this is a rat's nest) to see the red trust? so would know who they're dealing with.
Most of them buy without even signing up. Would be a great help for them and to keep fighting low life scammers  Cheesy
That's why visitor or anyone should read the sticky pinned threads before who really want to make a deal with any member. I didn't like the way you called the forum("rat's nest"), because this is not another amazon or ebay to buy or sell things. This is a place where people share their knowledge about crypto field even other areas and the majority of the people didn't come here to do the buying and selling, but the learning. I think theymos has so many things to worried about the forum modifications, but not this one (at least at the moment)
104  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: September 10, 2018, 06:39:48 AM
Voted for LoyceV, The Pharmacist, Vod and theyoungmillionaire. If there is one vote I will vote for LoyceV.

How about the Full member list. Is it filled? Smiley
106  Other / Meta / Re: User nominated names of possible moderators for forum. on: September 09, 2018, 01:07:58 PM
How is being popular a good quantifier for a position as a moderator? The least popular may be the best suited for the position. Do you give jobs based on how popular people may or may not be? No, you base them on who is more qualified.
That's what exactly I was thinking and your fingers were faster than me. Being popular means like two sides of a coin. It can be positive as well as negative. Take digaran as a example. He is very popular in the forum sometimes popular than most of the good reporters. Does it mean that he has suited for the Mod position? No. At the end of the day @theymos is the only one who decides which member/s most suited as our next Mod/s whether we liked or not. I'm pretty sure he will take the right decision but the problem is when?

Another suggestion I would like to mention is there should be "ghost mods" whose names didn't appear under their usernames. Being unnoticed is the best way to do your job seriously and without carrying a nice collection of red trust as @Jet Cash already mentioned. If my memory serves well this "ghost mod" concept is already suggested by the forum member, unfortunately, I didn't remember the name.

Agree with you. Since we are not able to see who is the best reporter, we can just present few names to theymos. So theymos will able to picked the name who is qualified ( if he want ) . I just want to show that forum member wondering for new moderators so that theymos could change his mind. You can say just remind him by this way and I believe he will consider that.
If you put @theymos at the beginning of the subject, he will answer in this thread for your and other members suggestions. Because I have seen that @iasenko has tasted the sweet taste of being answered by theymos twice by doing that little trick Smiley
107  Other / Meta / Re: [LOG] The ranked up members - Congratulations! on: September 09, 2018, 12:14:31 PM
The logs have been updated again.

One user in the turkish local board received enough merits to rank up to a Hero Member: Matthias9515. Currently he has 476 activity and probably he will rank up next week.

Also, finaleshot2016 and abhiseshakana have become a Senior Members.

vphasitha01, kirreev070, Zapo, morvillz7z are the new Full Members.

Congratulations to all the ranked up members! Cool

Thanks, @Coin-1 for your wishes and it feels great to become 0 merits to 100 within three and half months. I'm hoping you will update your thread continuously. I would like to wish all the ranked up members and see you around. Again great effort OP Smiley

Giving LoyceV the nuke button is a no-brainer. I think he's pretty high up in the reporting stats too, but that's not the full story. Now it goes like this: LoyceV's script catches suspects -> someone needs to verify and report them -> moderators need to review and nuke. Seems to me like cutting out the middleman (or woman) and the hassle of reporting would be a benefit.

~snip~
When I report them post by post I make sure I'm certain they should be nuked, ....~snip~

What's your good report percentage? I bet it's 99 or 100, in which case having a mod re-verify your work is probably pointless.
That's what I have suggested, just cut the middle man (or women) in "Nuke chain" like block chain. Smiley

He is already willing to accept that job seriously and give this man his "Nuke button"

Edit: Does OP deserve a report for plagiarism?  Roll Eyes
Oh yes this is plagarism. Where is @LoyceV?
113  Other / Meta / Re: Forum chronicle - UP Rank List (statistics, max merit post) on: September 08, 2018, 04:24:26 PM
TMAN and Last of the V8s are still not ranked up to Legendary even though they have already received enough merits to rank up. I think you just follow the crowd by creating a thread regarding merit analysis which I couldn't understand at all. Give some extra effort when you starting a thread if you really like to start a thread about merits.

This Bitcointalk Merit dashboard prepared by DdmrDdmr will help you to scrape literally any merit data.

Following threads also will help you to get an idea about how it should be done

114  Other / Meta / Re: Take care from a update Link on MyEtherWallet on Bitcointalk ! on: September 08, 2018, 03:55:04 PM
All you can do is keep reporting them. They're easy to spot with the naming formatting. I've nuked probably 50+ today, but this is just one of those issues were going to have to manually deal with by users reporting them until measures are put in place to prevent them. All new users being shadow-banned until white-listed by staff would at least stop them from showing up and being a nuisance and at least theymos put that suggestion into the "maybe" pile so maybe it will be implemented one day.
Hell yeah, they all use _ in their usernames. Why they all use _ in their usernames? I think "maybe" list of theymos is now pilled up heavily and even he couldn't find out what should I do next. He is also a human being.

Admin should give another special rank or shining star to LoyceV for his mission of nuking newbies/bots
All I want is my own nuke button Cheesy

@LoyceV these days Cheesy

Where have you been in last 2 days Huh Can you lock the thread now?
116  Other / Meta / Re: Take care from a update Link on MyEtherWallet on Bitcointalk ! on: September 08, 2018, 01:14:13 PM
(Based on the usernames, most likely it's the same person/people is/are behind this like the first attempt)
I'm not a tech guy, but there are so many members having knowledge about how to avoid this kind of attacks in the first place. This is the second time during this week and is there any loopholes in the bitcointalk security system? Can you guys backtrace and found the people who're behind this.

I think @theymos or any staff member, we owe a hearing from you guys?

Thanks for the kind words guys, but I would be a very bad choice for a mod. My idea of fredom of speech is that people have the freedom to make their speeeches somewhere else if I don't like them.

I'm also extremely erratic in my behaviour. I would like to do somewthing to help the forum, but I don't think I can commit to a regular occupation.
"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter" - George Washington

However, freedom of speech didn't mean that we should be allowed unlimited freedom of speech. We all have to accept the consequences of our works as well. The problem here that I see is @theymos still confusing to determine where he should draw the line for free speech. As for my observation its already crossed the border where it actually should be.
119  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 08, 2018, 10:29:47 AM
I think part of the problem with reporting posts and getting them deleted is that it isn't really a punishment. A spammer can easily churn out a one line shitpost in under a minute. Even if 50% of their posts are getting deleted, they can still max out their bounty campaign easily enough.

One easy solution would be to remove any merits associated with a deleted post. I'm not sure what the "knock-on" effect of that would be though. What would happen if the postder had awarded the sMerits associated with the deleted post?
Another question is what would happen if the user deleted their own merited post to hide the merit abuse scenario[1], but not the mods? so I don't think removing any merits associated with a deleted post would be a viable option by considering those two factors of your and mine even though we liked to see that removal of merits.

[1] - User can award merits for their alt and then delete their merited post from their alt.
120  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 08, 2018, 07:30:26 AM
I read some good ideas in this thread. I would like to categorize and collect them, and add also some own ideas:

Easy actions which can be followed by every poster:
- Start more self-moderated threads.
- Report spam!
- Lock the threads if you get the answers without allowing spammers to spam fest in your thread.

Quote
Feature requests:
- Make the character limit of signature space, for Junior Members, depend on the received merit points. An idea to not overly punish "honest" Juniors: give them automatically a minimal space, enough to post a Bitcoin address or a simple link without any advertisement slogan.
- (own idea): Signature space "on probation" for Juniors/Newbies. Juniors who are legitimately reported for spam can lose their signature space until they rank up.
- (own idea, I have already suggested it several times): Allow users to ignore entire threads, so megathreads can be "hidden".
- (own idea) Allow to reatroactively change threads to self-moderated, if they're "taken over" by spammers.
- (hilariousetc idea) Require one Merit to rank up Jr. Member

Quote
Staff/Rule-change requests:
- Enforce signature campaign quality rules by Staff - e.g. delete threads of campaigns with abusive behavior.
- Require "earned merits" for participate signature campaigns as already done by @Zapo and @LoyceV
