Citigroup to Offer Low-Risk Crypto Product for Institutional Investors: Report
Investors may now have a new way of purchasing cryptocurrencies without actually having to own them.

Manhattan, New York-based banking giant Citigroup has reportedly developed a product which could reduce the risk hedge funds and asset management firms are exposed to when they invest in cryptocurrencies. According to the Business Insider, the instrument which was jointly developed by Citigroup’s depository receipts services team and the capital markets origination team is known as Digital Asset Receipt.

While Citigroup will issue the Digital Asset Receipt, a custodian will be responsible for holding the cryptocurrency assets. Upon issuing the receipt, Wall Street clearing and settlement services firm Depository Trust & Clearing Corp will then be informed by the financial giant. This is expected to offer legitimacy to the fledgling asset class as well as provide investors with a new way of tracking an investment within a familiar system.

‘The ADR of Crypto’
Digital Asset Receipt works in a similar way to the American Depository Receipt (ADR) which allows investors in the United States to own foreign stocks that are not traded on domestic exchanges. With the ADR, U.S. citizens and residents are able to invest in foreign stocks where a bank acts as a custodian while the investors issued with a depository receipt. Having started issuing ADRs around nine decades ago, Citigroup is now one of the biggest issuers of American Depository Receipts in the world.

No information is, however, available regarding when the crypto product will be launched by Citigroup. It is also not clear how regulators would view the instrument especially coming in the wake of several bitcoin exchanged-traded funds (ETFs) being rejected by the U.S. markets regulator, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Singporean Crypto Exchange Invests $3 Million in Bitcoin Australia for International Expansion
Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has marked its foray into Australia with a multi-million investment in a regulated domestic exchange, part of a new joint venture.

The Australian Financial Review is reporting that KuCoin has invested the AUD $3 million investment in Bitcoin Australia, a domestic exchange that enables bitcoin trading and ethereum buying, enabling the Asian exchange operator enter the Aussie market with a marked focus on high-end, advanced investors.

Bitcoin Australia will meanwhile use the newly gained finances to fund its own expansion efforts into retail investor markets around the world. Founded in 2015, Bitcoin Australia has a presence in Canada and the Netherlands beyond its shores presently. Chief executive Rupert Hackett claims the company’s own aggressive expansion will target 30 countries before the end of 2020.

While targeting different markets, both companies have “clear synergies” leading to the joint-venture, the executive said, telling the AFR:

“It will effectively create an exchange for intermediate and advanced traders, while we’re a mass market approach, making us quite synergistic. We’ll build the consumer-friendly retail experience for people entering the market, while supporting KuCoin for advanced traders”

A crypto-to-crypto only exchange, KuCoin is currently working on the alpha version of its fiat exchange that is expected to launch in Q4 2018.

The exchange has seen $10.5 million in transactional volume over a 24-hour period, according to data from CoinmarketCap. The exchange employs 300 people and has over 4 million users on its platform, according to the report.

“I want to confirm that this is true,” KuCoin chief executive Michael Gan said of the company’s investment. “This is not only a great strategic decision but will be an excellent long-lasting partnership for us to help cryptocurrency grow globally.”

Bitcoin Australia’s newly-gained investment toward expansion plans comes at a time when domestic exchanges are regulated by the Australian Transactions and Reporting Analysis Center (AUSTRAC). Introduced in April, the regulations mandate domestic exchanges to enroll in the watchdog’s register while complying with know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering & counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) norms.

Former Indian Politician Arrested in $1.3 Million Bitcoin Extortion Case
Former BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya has been arrested for an alleged involvement with the kidnapping syndicate of Shailesh Bhatt.

The Accusation
Kotadiya, who was fingered as an accomplice during the interrogation of Kirit Paladiya in May this year had evaded arrest until Sunday, September 09. His arrest by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch police from Maharashtra’s Dhuliya was reported by ANI. This development is expected to fast-track the resolution of the particular case where Kotadiya is being indicted as an offender in the Rs 9.95 crore bitcoin extortion case of Surat.

The ex-MLA was declared wanted by the court after failing to turn up for questioning following a summon. The summon was as a result of an application filed by the CID (Crime) with respect to the above-mentioned offense.

Kotadiya, however, claimed innocence over the allegations, claiming that he was being framed. The case in question involves the abduction of Surat-based builder Shailesh Bhatt, and his associate and Kotadiya’s nephew Kirit Paladiya, in a bid to extort bitcoins from him, on February 11. However, investigations revealed the entire exercise to have been orchestrated by Paladiya, and had connived with SP Jagdish Patel and others to extort the crypto-currency from Bhatt and to share the spoils.

A Common Problem
This development is one of the common stains on the fabric of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. The peer-to-peer payment systems have been taken advantage of by criminals in different known cases within the ecosystem. Hackers have also in a number of incidences demanded bitcoin or altcoin as ransom over attacks on premium websites and platforms.

In its current state, however, tracking cryptocurrency inclined financial crimes within the ecosystem may appear complicated, but not totally impossible. This explains one of the reasons why regulators demand KYC compliance from exchanges and their clients. This would largely reduce the extent of anonymity involved in dealing with cryptocurrencies. How this will affect the decentralized characteristics of digital payment systems is, however, another angle that gives rise to the existing debate in the industry.

Узбекистан открывает двери криптовалютным биржам, майнингу, и проводит либеральную налоговую политику

Пытаясь стимулировать экономику страны, власти Узбекистана предприняли инициативы, способствующие росту и развитию криптовалютной индустрии. Правительство республики подтвердило, что легализует криптовалютные биржи и позволит компаниям блокчейна открывать в стране офисы. Решение о легализации крипто-бирж принято в русле проводимой Узбекистаном политики – недавно новый президент подписал указ о поощрении использования криптовалют и технологии блокчейн населением.

Документ, опубликованный от имени президента Республики Узбекистан и озаглавленный «О мерах по организации деятельности криптовалютных бирж в Узбекистане», содержит набор официальных определений биткоина и других криптовалют.

Государство подтвердило, что не станет рассматривать криптовалюты в качестве ценных бумаг, поэтому законы, относящиеся к фондовым биржам, не будут распространяться на криптовалютные биржи. Вместо этого, криптовалютный бизнес будет работать в соответствии с новым набором правил, так называемых особых нормативных актов.

Только иностранные юридические лица, которые уже имеют дочерние или иные предприятия в Узбекистане, смогут открывать криптовалютные биржи. Эти структуры будут освобождены от уплаты налогов с их криптовалютных проектов.

С другой стороны, любая прибыль, полученная от криптовалют, не будет облагаться налогами, учитывая, что Узбекистан даёт криптоактивам определение «записей набора данных на блокчейне» – которыми они действительно являются – «представляющими ценность и имеющими владельца», согласно тексту.

Тем не менее, о полной свободе деятельности криптобирж в Узбекистане говорить не приходится, поскольку правительство также предусмотрело специфические условия регистрации и работы криптовалютных бирж.

Во-первых, иностранные структуры должны иметь авторизованный капитал, достаточный для выплаты 30 000 минимальных зарплат с дня подачи заявления. Больше того, эквивалент 20 000 минимальных зарплат должен храниться в качестве резерва в коммерческом банке, поддерживаемом государством.

Во-вторых, государство требует от криптовалютных бирж размещать их серверы в Узбекистане.

В-третьих, узбекские власти ожидают, что биржи будут соблюдать правила в отношении торговли и публикации данных обменных курсов, исходя из соотношения спроса и предложения.

Uzbekistan Goes Fishing for Bitcoin Exchanges
The former Soviet nation confirmed that it is legalizing cryptocurrency exchanges and will allow blockchain companies to set up their offices in the state. The legalization came in the wake of a presidential decree that was signed to encourage the use of cryptocurrency and blockchain in Uzbekistan.

A document published at the behest of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan, titled “On measures to organize the activities of crypto-exchanges in Uzbekistan,” revealed a set of official definitions for bitcoin-like cryptocurrencies. The state has confirmed that it will not treat cryptocurrencies like securities. Therefore, the laws that are common to security exchanges will not bother cryptocurrency exchanges.

Instead, the crypto trading businesses will come under a new set of rules, referred to as special normative acts.

Only foreign legal entities which already have a subsidiary or other enterprises in Uzbekistan will be able to open cryptocurrency exchanges. These entities will not be liable to pay taxes on their cryptocurrency turnovers. That said, any revenue derived in cryptocurrency will be untaxable, considering Uzbekistan will define cryptoassets as a set of data records on blockchain — which they indeed are — that has value and owner, according to the text.

Американский брокер EF Hutton объявил о намерении предоставлять своим клиентам аналитическую информацию о криптовалютах.

 Как отмечается в пресс-релизе, отчеты о криптоактивах будут содержать информацию о изменении курсов валют, рейтинги, а также оценку положения дел у различных игроков индустрии.

Crypto Giant Huobi Partners Singapore Trade Union to Promote Blockchain Skills

$7,400 to $6,950: Bitcoin Price Drops 2% Within 30 Minutes in Crypto Market Bleed
Within the past 30 minutes, the Bitcoin price has dropped by more than 2 percent from $7,400 to $6,950, pushing tokens and other major cryptocurrencies to record large losses.

Ethereum, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash, and EOS recorded 6 to 7 percent losses as Bitcoin failed to maintain momentum in the $7,400 range.



If Bitcoin manages to immediately rebound to the $7,200 to $7,300 range in the next 12 to 24 hours and finds some stability in the low $7,000 region, then it is possible for the dominant cryptocurrency to avoid a downtrend to mid-$6,000.

However, if BTC falls below the $7,000 support level, as seen in May and July, a drop to the low $6,000 is expected.

Two Outcomes: Major Breakout or Minor Drop
Edward Morra, a cryptocurrency trader and technical analyst, wrote earlier today that a correction is incoming for Bitcoin, unless it shows a trend reversal supported by a spike in volume.

“Bitcoin is coiling tighter and tighter, making everyone wonder what to expect, but I feel like correction is incoming (if not a reversal). However, we also need to understand that shorting here is being in the vanguard, as there are no clear confirmation of a trend change as of yet,” Morra explained.

Two outcomes were presented to Bitcoin on September 5: a major breakout above the $7,500 mark and a potential run to $8,000 or another correction below the $7,000 mark and testing mid-$6,000 once again.

Given the magnitude of the drop in the price of BTC in a short period of time relative to the stability the dominant cryptocurrency has demonstrated since August 6, it is highly likely that the Bitcoin price will test the mid-$6,000 region in the upcoming days.

As BTC falls, tokens and small market cap cryptocurrencies are expected to bleed out further, deleting their temporary gains throughout early September.

Against BTC, even well-performing tokens like ICON, WanChain, and Ontology have fallen by nearly 70 percent since early 2018 and in the next few weeks, tokens will struggle to find momentum against BTC and ETH pairs.

Japanese crypto firm FXcoin has recruited Deutsch Bank’s former foreign-exchange dealer, Yasuo Matsuda as a senior strategist for the cryptocurrency startup.

According to Business Times. the Japanese cryptocurrency startup which was founded by Deutsch Bank AG veteran, Tomoo Oshi, hired the alumnus of the German lender to furnish the startup with daily reports on market speculations beginning from this month, September 2018.

FXcoin Ltd. plans to engage in the exchange of Bitcoin among other virtual currencies once it finalizes regulatory approval from Japan’s Financial Services Agency. Matsuda’s experience is expected to come to the fore in the provision of research on digital tokens.

Yasuo Matsuda worked with Deutsche Bank as a foreign exchange dealer for six years, and his expertise in the brokerage industry will be of immense benefit to the startup. Onishi’s foresight prompted this timely recruitment in the wake of similar moves being made by other firms in the industry.

Following his decision to begin the cryptocurrency startup, Onishi resigned from his position as head of currency sales at Deutsche Bank and recruited professionals in the banking industry. Top among his recruits were Nomura Holdings Inc., HSBC Holding Plc, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and his former employer.

FXcoin Ltd. leveraged on the licensing system introduced by Japan’s Financial Service Agency in 2017 to seek approval as a cryptocurrency exchange firm. The new licensing system became imperative following Coincheck’s loss of assets worth about U$500 million in a hack that happened in January.

Taiwanese Hospital Launches Blockchain Platform for Record Keeping
As part of efforts to consolidate the government’s Hierarchical Medical system policy, Taipei Medical University Hospital has introduced a blockchain-driven platform for the advancement of medical record-keeping.

The Healthcare Blockchain Platform will be used to improve patient referral services and integrates individual healthcare networks for people to access their medical records with relative ease, according to a report on Taipei Times.

In a statement released by the hospital, the platform will be a one-stop referral and long-term care service in support of the government Hierarchical Medical System policy.

The Project incorporated the collaboration of over 100 community-based clinics and employed the use of blockchain technology in addressing “common pain points” in healthcare. These include the transfer of data between medical institutions, personal patient portals and physician referral process, the hospital wrote.

“Using smart contracts, hospitals and clinics can request and authorize patient record sharing easily and securely,” the report noted.

Hospital superintendent Chen Ray-jade, who spoke to the news outlet, said the technology would provide an avenue to synchronize electronic medical records with electronic health records from various clinics and hospitals. It would also come with a security feature of notification and consent before any transfer occurs.

Taipei has only followed the path of other healthcare establishments in the world using ledger technology in the management of medical data.

Earlier in August, a medical big data ecosystem meant for the storage and secured transfer of sensitive genomic and personal information was jointly developed by South Korean biotech enterprise Macron and local tech firm, Bigster. The move is expected to reshape the global medical landscape by allowing for secure storage and transfer of large amounts of sensitive genomic and personal information through the blockchain.

PwC’s New Digital Skills Course Will Teach Employees about Blockchain
“Big four” auditing firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is launching training programs to employees on blockchain and other nascent technologies.

The two-year digital skills course, dubbed “Digital Accelerators” and said to begin in January, will train 1,000 employees on everything from drones, blockchain, and cleansing data to 3D printing, a news report from tech publication Digiday says.

The intermediate-to-advanced skill building courses is aimed to enhance PwC employees’ digital skills as well as cut costs for clients, thus boosting internal blockchain expertise, the report added. According to Sarah McEneaney, digital talent leader at PwC and head of the program, PwC clients expect things more digitally in order to control the cost.

McEneaney added:

“My job is to future proof our workforce. It just seems table stakes at this point that people should have more technology skills. It’s needed for us to remain competitive and to be responsive for what our clients are also going through.”

Every participating employee is required to spend 10 hours per week in Digital Accelerator courses irrespective of their past responsibilities. The curriculum consists of three basic key areas with data and analytics including blockchain at the initial level, drones, augmented reality, and cybersecurity at intermediate level, followed by AI and machine learning.

В Амурской области появилась своя криптовалюта - AmurCoin, получить которую можно в обмен на шаги. Правда, пока участники смогут осуществить первые транзакции только в рамках Восточного экономического форума (ВЭФ) с 11 по 13 сентября, сообщает деловая газета «Золотой Рог».

Дальний Восток является первопроходцем в области создания собственной «цифровой валюты» среди регионов России, пишет сайт «Царьград».

Создатели амурских региональных «цифровых денег», среди них не только областное Агентство инвестиций, но и IT-предприниматели из Москвы, не скрывают: целью создания AmurCoin является не внедрение новой платежной системы, а эксперимент, позволяющий продемонстрировать возможности блокчейн-технологий на базе отечественной платформы Wave.

Как отметили эксперты, опрошенные Царьградом, реализация блокчейн-технологии на этой платформе довольно проста и не займет много времени. Что, впрочем, не умаляет достоинств этой идеи, признают они.

На новую криптовалюту можно будет приобрести региональные сувениры, мороженое, мед, портативную зарядку и другие мелочи, рассказывают разработчики. Для того, чтобы стать обладателем AmurCoin, нужно «накопить» достаточное количество шагов, пройденных на площадках форума. Принимаются данные фитнес-трекера, смартфона и других устройств, в том числе взятых в аренду.

Кроме того, получить AmurCoin можно в обмен на публикации в социальных сетях с соответствующим хэштегом. Всего выпущено несколько миллионов «единиц» новой криптовалюты.

Как рассказал Царьграду руководитель амурского Агентства инвестиций Павел Пузанов, разработчики пытались создать не столько криптовалюту, сколько токены, элементы платежа. «Мы назвали это криптовалютой, чтобы это было всем понятно, поскольку это понятие на слуху», - указал он.

Поясняя суть идеи, господин Пузанов отметил, что в рамках ВЭФ-2018 задан трек «показать регион будущего», поэтому разработчики попытались с выпуском AmurCoin продемонстрировать на примере одной из жизненных транзакций, как можно использовать блокчейн.

«Формат обеспечивается трекингом шагов, которые гости форума пройдут по улицам Владивостока, - рассказал собеседник Царьграда. - Соответственно, чтобы получить бонус от региона, нужно накопить «коины», а вся транзакция фиксируется с помощью блокчейн».

По его словам, таким образом гостям форума максимально доходчиво и наглядно будет показана суть технологии. «У нас не было цели создать платежный актив, мы ставили задачу по популяризации блокчейн», - указал руководитель амурского Агентства инвестиций.

По словам П. Пузанова, помимо популяризации технологии в массах, разработчики ставили задачу по привлечению внимания к потенциалу Дальневосточного региона.

«В рамках ВЭФ зона блокчейн будет размещена возле крупного инвестиционного проекта по созданию в регионе дата-центров на базе гидроэлектростанций, - рассказал он. - У нас высокие показатели по генерации и порядка 800 МВт свободной электрической энергии. При этом для высокотехнологичных проектов, в частности для блокчейн, нужна колоссальная вычислительная мощность».

Регион может участвовать в совместных проектах по созданию сетевой инфраструктуры, что и продемонстрируют разработчики, отметил он.

Что касается дальнейшей судьбы AmurCoin, то, по словам авторов идеи, цифровую валюту планируется использовать в качестве краудфандинговой платформы для привлечения инвестиций.

Earlier this month, the US government imposed additional sanctions on the Turkish economy, excluding the region from the global banking system operated by SWIFT in Belgium. Consequently, the lira, the national currency of Turkey, fell by more than 50 percent against the US dollar.

On August 12, Bloomberg reported that Turkish merchants were losing out massively with their holdings in lira due to the country’s conflict with the US, which worsened after the government rejected to free pastor Andrew Brunson, who was moved to house arrest last month due to health issues.

Due to existing capital controls and the governments encouragement to prevent converting the Turkish lira to other reserve currencies like the US dollar, merchants and local businesses have been unable to cash out their holdings in lira.

“I have respect for our president, but I can’t sell my gold and foreign currency just because he made that call. I’ve cut down on food for those savings,” Sevin Temur, a 58-year-old retiree, told Bloomberg.
