Great advice. I think I'll put that on my site as well!

Everything looks factually accurate.  It is worth pointing out that you can join multiple mining pools, and it is probably a good idea to do so.

In the interests of helping your new site to become effective, it might be helpful to put together a guide for how to set up mining so that if one of your workers has connectivity issues with your main mining pool, it can start hashing for a backup pool rather than simply idling.  There are quite a few good pools out there, and there is merit in joining several just so you don't put all your BTCs in one basket.

Not sure if you were planning on doing this, but it might also be suggesting that newbies cash out from the mining pool regularly, but not too regularly.  Cashing out 1BTC at a time seems like a reasonable amount.  More than this becomes a risk that you'll lose your coins if the pool dies, less and you'll have to pay high transaction fees because your BTCs are split into tiny fragments.  I've heard situations of the BTC software requiring a transaction fee of over 5BTCs for a 70BTC transaction simply because the sends to that account were done in tiny increments.

Good luck with your site!

Thanks Auspician! I'll work on that tonight. I'll have to do a little research on it and find the easiest way and give instructions based on that. I know a lot of the people in these forums are advanced users and I hope that the people that use my site to get started eventually get into more advanced techniques but I want to give them a fast and easy to follow manual to get them started and help them to grow from there. I'll bookmark this post so I can send you some coin when I get my main rig up and running. I should be getting around 800 mhash to start and will be investing more from there. I'm in a situation where I don't have to pay electric so I'm hoping I can get everything up and running and take advantage of my situation.

Hi All!

I am new to bitcoin mining and because I'm unfamiliar with most of the applications and operating systems that are popular for most miners, I had a hard time getting started. I put a small site together with the information I used to get my self started with a basic concept of bitcoin but I don't want inaccuracies. If anyone that is pretty knowledgeable would be willing to give me some feedback I would appreciate it and would be willing to send them some bitcoins as soon as I pick up my new mining rig. The site is at startbitcoin.com

Thanks!
