When someone else actually legitimately owns the name in question (e.g. the guy who grabbed the .com for 4chan) squatting is the appropriate term... If you own the rights to the domain name, you're not squatting that domain name. Squatting is when you occupy something without the authority, the property rights, to do so. A troll, on the other hand, has the property rights but doesn't really use the property other than to exploit others. Think of patent or copyright trolls.

La polémica sobre cuál de estas denominaciones resulta más apropiada está hoy superada. El término español resulta más recomendable por carecer de ambigüedad... Realmente? Hay ambigüedad sobre cual idioma se hablan en este subforo?

Is "Castellano" the most correct term? The thread in "other" is named Español, and that's the word I've always heard.
According to some Spanish language speakers, castellano is the proper term. I happen to think that using castellano implies authenticity and sounds better.

BTC could get confused with Bacon, Tomato and Carrot
What confusion? Bitcoin runs on bacon, tomatoes, carrots. Doesn't it?

The most immediate risk, though, seems to be that Bitcoins will facilitate transactions for criminals, online poker players, tax-evaders, pornographers, drug dealers, and other unsavory types tired of carrying around a Vermeer. The only thing unsavory about me is my bellybutton smut, which is decidedly sweet.

You used the Thai bhat symbol? Really? I am disappoint.
What's your opinion on what the currency symbol should be? I havent quite decided myself, but I'm stuck between the thai baht and the Circled B. BTC. It may not count as a symbol, but it is a unique abbreviation that makes sense. I was a big advocate of ⓑ, but I don't really see the point of a symbol anymore. The Thai bhat just grates me though because it's boring, unoriginal, and a cliché. Anyway, it's off topic. I'm still disappoint though.

What is wrong with profiting from his comic strips? How could that possibly cause exploitation? What is wrong with profit? Is he some type of communist? Why would he open the black hole in the first place?
Perhaps Randall finds himself satisfied with the comics themselves and seeks no other reward. Perhaps he didn't want to make money off of his, albeit less then ostensible, endorsement of Bitcoin, considering that doing so might hurt his credibility. Perhaps, like Bill Waterson, he didn't want to exploit his creation and transmogrify it into another soulless Garfield.

But please don't call me an "ass" or a "troll," if for no other reason than that it degrades these forums. I can understand why you might feel that way about the term ass, but "troll" accurately describes your occupation, to the extent that it involves you extorting people for things you have no other use for. And do trolls typically use their real names or hide behind pseudonyms? My name is Erik Voorhees, I'm not an ass nor a troll, and if you'd like to discuss with my why purchasing domain names is illegitimate, please do so without devolving into personal insults. Why would property-trolls hide their names? They have the authority to do what they do.

build something with it or give it to the dude for a nominal fee. I hate cybersquatters.
As I said elsewhere: They're not really squatters. They bought the rights to the domain name from a governing registrar. Squatters occupy spaces for which they do not have the legal right to occupy. But, as far as I know, you can only use a domain name by buying the legal right to do so. Therefore, squatting domain names seems impossible.
I don't really care what you call them, we're all talking about the same thing here. Squatting is a nickname for it, whether it is the proper "technical" definition of the word or not.
It's a miserable nickname. Domain name "squatters" are essentially the opposite of meatspace squatters. The former operates in accordance with authority, the latter operates against it. Domain-lord would make more sense as a nickname. EDIT: An even better nick name is domain-troll. It works like patent-troll or copyright-troll. Evoorhees isn't a squatter of any sort. He's a troll. This discussion belongs in the thread from which I quoted myself, but I thought I should bring it up here.

Saluds!
