101  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: further improved phatk OpenCL Kernel (> 3% increase) for Phoenix - 2011-07-17 on: July 30, 2011, 06:27:01 PM
I'm working on a new version! The inputs came from the original Author of phatk, who released a version 2.0 of phatk (THANKS Phateus).
Currently my version IS slower, but I see this as a fair and cool competition, from which all of us will benefit in the end.

Dia

Hopefully you can re-work his version because atm, it doesn't work for me on Win7/2.4SDK/GUIMiner lastest.  I replaced your phatk kernel with his and it just stays at connecting spamming idle worker in console.

We need more competition! Because having only one wallet service round town is not a good idea!

I'm sorry but wallet services like these are just dumb.  Yes, they may be convenient but you're literally asking for your coins to get stolen, hacked, etc
103  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Unable to overvolt Sapphire HD5850 XTREME in Linux on: July 29, 2011, 11:15:59 PM
I got one of these 230SA revision cards but no luck so far.  Only stable at 810 core for bitcoin on default voltage.  Of course, waiting for new trixx to support it =/

Bummer. What's your hash rate at 810 core?

Actually, I am able to get it up to 880... I guess Trixx was causing issues when I manipulated the non-functional vcore settings so I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it's spanking.  I will try to see if I can push it further but I am waiting on my IR temperature gun to come in so I can keep tabs on VRMs.

Unfortunately, though, I cannot seem to get phoenix to be the "mining king" that it is on my other computer.  my other computer, I have a reference 5850 that at 880core/350mem (1.087 stock vcore), gets 374Mhash/sec.  This is with 11.4 preview and 2.4sdk, GUIMiner with all the kernel improvements (re: Diapolo, etc).

I tried the exact same setup on the other computer, the only difference being this non-reference 5850 Xtreme and phoenix seems to be awful.  At 880 core, it's getting 319Mhash/sec.   I tried fumbling around with SDKs/drives and so far it seems the best outcome is with 11.4 and 2.1 SDK.  Phoenix goes up to 329Mhash/sec but Poclbm is out in front at 360-366Mhash/sec.

I don't know why but that's the case.

You know when you are bitcoin miner when...

...you mine for bitcoins?

230SA ... only 810core on default vcore =(

107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The World's First Bitcoin Luxury Wrist Watch! on: July 29, 2011, 04:59:30 PM
I think it's a very nice watch.  That said, I don't really see how it is a "bitcoin luxury watch", as I don't think just a few letters engraved really makes it one.  If there was some sort of fundamental design which revolved around bitcoin designs, that would be another case.

Of course, unless you mean a luxury wrist watch available to be purchased by BTC, which would make my post moot.
108  Economy / Goods / Re: HumbleBundle! Anyone need? on: July 27, 2011, 04:11:41 AM
What is humbleBundle?

http://www.humblebundle.com/

It's a coordinated effort between some indie developers, where they provide games for sale as a package at a "you set your own price" price.  And part of it goes to EFF and Charity (Child's Play).  On top of that, you can select which percentage of your funds goes where.

I believe it's on it's 4th iteration, despite the current bundle being called #3.  Some of the past bundles have been fantastic.  Not sure about the games in the current one but hey, when you can set your own price, you can try them at a reasonable price.

Is this normal?  Bunch of older blocks that haven't been confirmed while some newer ones already have?
111  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: slow share submission rate on: July 21, 2011, 11:38:50 PM
Not sure if this exactly related but I've come to find out and via responses recently that share submission rate is not necessarily in direct relation to your Mhash.

Eg.  in one 1 minute round on deepbit, I was able to submit 7 shares.  In another 1 minute round, I was able to submit 0.  In a 2 minute round, 1 share.  I guess it comes down to each share potentially requiring more Mhash power than another to complete.  I could be wrong but statistically, I'm seeing this all the time.
112  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI mining - Phoenix 1.5 and new, faster poclbm on: July 21, 2011, 11:28:41 PM
You should post in a rpcminer-cuda or guiminer thread, your question has nothing to do with this thread's topic.

Maybe I'm retarded, but isn't this the GUIMiner thread? Smiley

It's a celeron.  It doesn't process information as fast as today's CPUs, despite being deep.

Short term yay.  Long term is means nothing.
114  Economy / Goods / Re: new real tangible physical bitcoin coin on: July 21, 2011, 04:17:17 PM
Just wanted to chime in and say I finally got mine in. Ordered July 7th, arrived today (15 days).  Toronto, Canada.  As was said many times in this thread, it looks much better in person!  Very happy with it.

Of course, I do not think anyone wants to see a man-peck shot a la MsBitcoin so no pictures.  Plenty in this thread to suffice Tongue

Will definitely purchase more in the future.

Well since we're all posting images, I think this one is quite appropriate:

I get it.... blue seats.... blue suit.  You're feeling blue...

Got mine today. 2 coins shipped to canada Smiley

How long did it take?  Still waiting on mine (July 7th); was figuring there is some backlog due to the postal strike before that.
117  Economy / Goods / Re: new real tangible physical bitcoin coin on: July 18, 2011, 11:03:38 PM
I wonder how much people would actually
buy these for if there were 100% pure gold.

It would be MORE then collectible.

Doubt most people would be able to afford it if it was.  Not to say there isn't necessarily a market for it but it would be small.
118  Bitcoin / Mining / Hash/Share question on: July 18, 2011, 10:18:10 PM
I've been monitoring my hashing and shares more closely and it sort of dawned on me that Mhash does not necessarily translate into a share.  More clearly, X Mhash does not guarantee Y amount of shares within Z amount of time.  Is this correct?

example only: 100Mhash equals 1 share every second.  So 1 minute would always yield 60 shares

I've noticed some rounds, let's say under 2 minutes, I was not able to able to get any shares submitted.  But another, under 1 minute, I was able to get 6 shares submitted.

Suckerberg should have sold Facebook when he had the chance.
