101  Other / Off-topic / Re: The craziest shit you can buy with bitcoins right now? on: August 06, 2014, 10:16:27 PM
You could buy a human being.

Skull W/ Teeth - $1,200
Eyes (Pair) - $1,500
Scalp - $600
Liver - $157,000
Heart - $120,000
Skin - $10 per square inch

Finally, this sounds like a great crazy shit to buy with bitcoins Smiley

Those are just the prices of the parts and pieces....if you buy a skull buy me one too? xD
Anyways, there's also places to purchase human skin items with regular currency (ie Euro and USD)

An example is http://www.humanleather.co.uk/humanleatherproducts.html where you can purchase wallets, belts, and shoes.

Then of course as always there are the mock sites such as http://100humanleather.com/en/ which don't seem to understand that human leather is actually legal to obtain.

UPDATE:

If you would like to make a donation, but decided not to as there was absolutely nothing in it for you.
Well I have solved that. I used a site called Booster and created T-Shirts that I hope you guys (and gals) will like. It is non-specific to this event, meaning you can wear it anywhere any time. I am still working on it, but I would appreciate your feedback before I launch it. Please comment if you would like a different logo, slogan, or any tweaks in the design or wording on the page.

103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be use by future Mars Inhabitants? on: August 06, 2014, 08:33:58 PM
That would be a pretty awesome thing. I can definitely foresee a form of currency at lease similar to bitcoin as being the main currency by the time we do interplanetary travel. I can also foresee us being wiped out by then, whether it be through war of natural disaster. Also, at current technology it would take that long for an interplanetary transaction, but who's to say we won't be more advanced by then to the extent an interplanetary transaction is faster than google glass?
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got my mother to buy 15 bitcoins over the past year. Have you done similar? on: August 06, 2014, 08:23:23 PM
I'm currently trying to gift bitcoin to students at my school. Mostly Seniors (like myself) and some juniors. The plan is to accumulate about 1BTC and explain to some teachers how they can apply it to their economics classes. A teacher and I have discussed bitcoin before so I know he will accept and try this, plus I've got a couple other teachers willing. The plan is to give the bitcoin to the students but held by the teacher until the end of the term. And during the process discuss investment with a real life model, plus it will offer a better explanation as to what currency or money is. Then at the end of the term, distributing the bitcoin to the students according to their final grades.
I'm hoping I can educate my peers and even teachers about both economics and bitcoin. All in all I should be able to effect ~200 people directly and many many more indirectly.
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We already passed the tipping point of BTC on: August 06, 2014, 08:11:01 PM
I totally agree with this. Partially because more and more people are educating newcomers about Bitcoin, myself included.
There's plenty of ways to increase the population that uses bitcoin and I see them slowly but surely unfolding. I've currently got a fundraiser going to bring bitcoin into the highschool I'm a senior at via the economics classes. That's just one example.

108  Bitcoin / Project Development / Help Cryptocoin Education on: August 06, 2014, 03:33:57 AM
Hello, my name is James and I am a senior at the local high school.

I have been interested in bitcoin for about a year now, and have only recently been able to truely join in on the experience, as I have not been able to purchase it until I heard about Virwox.

As such, I believe more people my age should learn about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, as well as have a better understanding of economics. I have talked to my friends about this and they are interested about bitcoin, but unable to participate due to inability to purchase any.

I have come up with an idea to directly educate my peers about bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, investment, and economics in general.

The plan is as follows:

I am in good standing with many of the history and economics teachers at my school, I believe if I offer to them a plan to teach in a new and unique way, they will certainly agree to it. School starts back up in exactly one week ( August 12, 2014 ) and I hope to be able to offer this to them in the first week of school so that they can plan accordingly. If funds are not received at that time, it is ok. The fundraiser will stay up throughout the full school year and if first trimester classes don't get the opportunity then second trimester classes will.
I would like to offer the teachers enough bitcoin to pay 0.005 to each of their students (in accounts held by the teacher or myself, but watched by the students with blockchain.info or similar site) so that they can watch as the price raises and falls over the time of a trimester. I could offer projects for the teachers to give the students, such as calculating the percentage in change and making predictions as to what their final outcomes could be. Once the trimester is complete, each student will receive a paper wallet with instructions on how to use it and receive the bitcoins they have.

On average, classes at my school have 30 students in the. There are 5 class periods per day. I have two teachers who I believe can acurately teach this and would do so with enjoyment. This equals a total of 300 students. If I do not receive the full amount necessariy, I have a specific teacher of these two who will receive the payment. All donations will go to the classes, and eventually the students. If there are any students who simply refuse to accept the bitcoin I will hold onto it for another project such as this.

I beleive this plan will not only help educate my peers in bitcoin, but also economics as a whole. During the process I will urge the teachers and students to come onto this thread and become more involved with the community.

The following are my requirements:

1) The bitcoin to distribute to the students.

1.5 BTC is required for each student to have 0.005 BTC
1 BTC can be acceptable, with a lower rate given to each student.

2) Ideas on assignments to give the teachers.

I have some ideas myself, as previously stated, but I have learned in the past that asking a community of enthusiasts almost always gets      rewarded with better ideas.

109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 05, 2014, 06:21:44 PM
I have a Raspberry Pi computer set up in my house connected only to our network, except once a week I have it connect to the internet to update the blockchain and all my balances. Were I to have 100BTC I would put 5BTC in different addresses and save backups to my private thumb drive. The Pi is reserved only for bitcoin related things and so I'm not worried about getting a virus, because you really have to try to get infected when using Linux distros.
What client are you using on the Pi, and what memory storage are you using? How long does the Pi take to download and parse a large block. I am very interested in this solution if I could figure out how to overcome the performance problems.

I use Electrum, and so the blockchain download isn't an issue.
For memory I can just use the on board SD card (16 GB) and then a thumbdrive to transfer files back and forth.

Guess enough addresses and you're sure to hit the right one sometime in the next hundred years.

But if people keep the good practice of changing their coins to a new address often it becomes much harder.
It's always wise to keep our coins moving as it gets much more harder to hit a moving target.

True. On a different forum, someone was explaining bitcoin to a newcomer and explained how anonymous it was. Couldn't be traced and such. The newcomer asked how was it anonymous? And the guy posted two addresses saying "Tell me the name of who owns these addresses". It took me about a minute to find the people.

So moving bitcoins is both good to keep them protected, and good to keep yourself protected.

112  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin ATM on: August 05, 2014, 01:44:38 PM
can the ATM use others coins for pay?like ltc doge.

I would assume so. If OP's isn't, I'm sure it would be really easy to implement as long as you could access the current prices of whatever coin it is. I might implement this with mine. Make trading a lot easier.
113  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Multiplayer Chess Game [Goal: 1 BTC Funded: 0.1 BTC] on: August 05, 2014, 03:02:10 AM
Chess is honestly my favorite board game. And you added bitcoin to it, kudos to you for an amazing idea.

Once I've got more BTC to spare, I'd love helping you fund a bit. Might even spread the word for you to see it up and running faster  Grin
114  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin ATM on: August 05, 2014, 02:51:47 AM
I like this idea and have thought about doing it myself, but hacking up an ATM via a Raspberry Pi and other parts ("other parts" being rather vague).

Might I ask how you go about finding places to put the ATMs? Or you just happen to have friends that own the businesses?

I would probably do what I do currently with my addresses (or at lease the ones with the larger amounts).

I have a Raspberry Pi computer set up in my house connected only to our network, except once a week I have it connect to the internet to update the blockchain and all my balances. Were I to have 100BTC I would put 5BTC in different addresses and save backups to my private thumb drive. Uh... let's see about unforseeable circumstances.

Robber: You really think they would steal a Raspberry Pi? I have that one covered. Also the Pi is hidden since I always just SSH into it.
Corrupt Card: No problem, I have backups on my thumb drive.
Broken Thumb Drive: I have one of those micro's that're about twice as long as a finger nail. If it got corrupt, well I don't really have a solution if the Pi is gone too.
Have To Skip Country: I DID say I have a small thumb drive. Not too hard to conceal.
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hack generator dude must be a kid on: August 05, 2014, 01:24:44 AM
It seems to me like any kid or scammer with access to Visual Basic wants to make these kinds of generators. And put RAT's or keyloggers into them since that's the fad...

But hey, bitcoin IS hackable Grin

I mean, there's only 2^60 possible addresses. And about 2,554,694 addresses in use.

Guess enough addresses and you're sure to hit the right one sometime in the next hundred years.
118  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Ponzi Scheme on: August 05, 2014, 01:17:18 AM
Yes. My project will very directly state that it is a Ponzi scheme, and that after each duration of running, people will be refunded a specific amount and out of the rest I will put some percentage to the next duration, and pocket some percentage. I haven't gone into calculating numbers yet as I'm still designing the site and the general idea.

This is the first time I've touched bitcoin transactions like this. Never really messed with programming for bitcoin.
119  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Ponzi Scheme on: August 05, 2014, 01:02:04 AM
If you clearly state that it is a Ponzi scheme from the start i don't see why. There are already sites that do that, don't now if they are legit:
http://ponzidoge.com/

And in case you don't state that you run a Ponzi scheme but it is, well that's pretty much 99% altcoins right now, so there's that  Grin

Alright. I've had the thought for a couple days about building my own website similar to this. And have already started coding it (everyone needs to make a couple websites now and then right?  Wink ) But it didn't even occur to me that it could be illegal until someone offhandedly mentioned it to me. I'm hoping to get more users on it by straight up calling it a Ponzi scheme.
120  Bitcoin / Legal / Bitcoin Ponzi Scheme on: August 05, 2014, 12:53:24 AM
Question, is it legal to perform a Ponzi scheme with bitcoin since it is not recognized as a currency?  Huh

I could see some interesting gambling-like sites that use a ponzi scheme in order to allow people to earn money, the more people you refer to the sites the more likely you are to double your BTC by them participating, and so on. After an amount of time (as stated by the site clearly) the unpaid for people could receive 50% of what they put in or something along those lines. That way it's not a scam, and you know what you are getting into.

Just curious.
