And I thought the entry hurdles were high when I started buying precious metals 8 years ago. But, that was *nothing*. I have never felt so stupid, afraid, jacked-around and all over sick just trying to give my money to someone to buy something, ever. I thought this is what all the *smart* people are doing. I guess the bitcoin world is running out of smarts.

Put some trust in your fellow men

https://localbitcoins.com/

you might meet someone interesting too.

Uh, hello...this is where most of the flaking is taking place. I thought I could get around the bs in the whole money exchange/delay/verification/fees nightmare by dealing with someone local who was just us folks. But, nnnnoooooo. When the price started going up, you have never seen such a flaky, unresponsive, deal cancelling, price gouging bunch of dollar-signs-in-their-eyes amateurs, ever. I would laugh if I didn't feel so insulted. I have the email threads and cancelled deals to prove it.

A bunch of geeks with new money, watchout! Guess I'll go back to coinbase, the week delay is doable if I actually get coins at the end.

Everyone in my locale has bailed, I'm the only btc nut for 300 miles in all directions! ommfff!
103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Bubble Bull Market? on: April 10, 2013, 02:54:39 PM
The history of Bitcoin show the 3 distinct phases. Early on the jump from $0.006 to $0.25 was miraculous during the summer/fall of 2010. 4167% growth in something deemed impossible or highly unlikely, was what brought me to the fold. I joined Bitcoin as prices spiked again from $0.11 to $0.19, then $0.21, $0.25, $0.29!
Everyone was running around like the world was on fire. "This price is unsustainable!" "The market is too green and untested!" "We must build up to infrastructure!"
In the summer of 2011, the bubble formed that would define Bitcoin until present day. It began with some press in money market sites and key meetings, such as FBI, CIA/Langley, and day trading via MtGox et. al.
The magnificent Manipulator began his quest to shake the tree. Vomit Comet price walls on both sides of the isle shot prices 70% up and 80% down in rapid succession, nothing but amputated fingers all over the floor from everyone trying to catch the knife. We survived. We regrouped and refocused our energies into learning from mistakes. New subgroups formed to quickly overhaul weaknesses and build missing infrastructure.
We also had a huge influx of brutal trolling. It appears that professionals arrived to sway the timid and overrun the forums. We had moderators spoofed, profiles were appearing at the rate of 10-20 a minute and messing every thread with FUD and goading rants designed to intimidate the strongest among us. It seems nobody likes a winner;) Wink
The Current bubble is an almost exact mimic of the last one with perigy appearing to be in the $400 range. Fallback would still place it in the $250-$300 with quick return to even higher evaluation.
The queue in MtGox verification says it all... many new strategic investors are days away from joining Bitcoin and you have that to look forward to.

104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The non-conspiracy Bitcoin conspiracy? on: April 10, 2013, 01:10:56 PM
The only conspiracy is the aim to taint the reputation of bitcoin at any cost. You can destroy bitcoin with propaganda as efficiently as you can destroy the technology it is based on, never underestimate the foolishness of the masses on a large scale, a bitcoin prohibition era fueled by the masses fear whereas people would actually beg the government to protect them from the horrors of bitcoin, even if it makes the lower classes starve and billions are spent on it while the debt is further increased.

"Do you really want your children to have the possibility of using such horrible services as X and Y on the deepnet which are only made possible with BTC? We must protect the children!" - Oh the children, their favorite tactic.

The tactics of endangerment and tactics of innocence are moves we will see, along with many more. This is the stage where they will throw everything at the bitcoin meme and see what sticks. The tactic most likely next in the barrel will be, "Didn't ya kill my brother?" made famous by the song sung by Alexi Sayle. Pick a fight over some impugned wrong, and play it for all it's worth, hoping to attract attention from strong opposition. Best to ignore the muckrakers and build up support with the newly attracted non-aligned forum members.
Many of the support sites, such as exchanges, merchants, and dealers are seeing reports of fraud at a staggering rate. This may be accurate, but we have no way of knowing without publicly airing disputes with basis/no basis, which again takes us off target.
This could be perfect opportunity for ambitious groups to consolidate and form a protective standards of the commons beyond the pale of moderation. A simple, "State of the Bitcoin Realm" daily without bias Wink and  not devolved into rancor.

Did you like the "Mashed Potato!" comment? I think I'll make it my new moniker.
If you get a chance, check out my postings from several years ago,

http://slightlyoffended.blogspot.ca/

Enjoy, and keep writing about this subject!

PS. watch out for the heavy-hitters in the pro-trolling groups, they play rough. Although, they do appear occupied on Reddit and other key sites.
Any heavy-commented blogs or bitcoin-centric sites are the key targets these days. Rants of "Ponzi!" are quickly being substituted with "Watch out for Gub'ment!" scandal and weird twistings of logic, anything to pull conversation away from what is important.

Everyone would go dark with NFC/MeshNet/Tor/Alt Crypto$/P2P DNS.
Decentralization is why we stand here confident. It is not due to random factors that we have arrived at this nexus, many futurist have stated decentralized, highly mobile networked entities would act as disruptive agents against centuries-old financial infrastructure.
Future Shock is now Today Shock.

115  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone have fundamentals to support a higher value on BTC? on: April 04, 2013, 09:46:08 PM
"Bitcoin can protect their wealth against hyper-inflation"

I myself have long been concerned about eventual hyper-inflation however, that is not occurring with USD at the moment.  Nor do I know of any indicators that suggest it will happen in the near future.  The past two to three weeks I'd describe BTC as the currency hyper inflating.  In fact at this point I consider it an over price commodity and my link above will explains it in great detail if you go to the full article.

- I already included some of your fun things like Western Union and ATMs which is being considered but hasn't happened (Speculation).
- Many in mainstream think of Kim Dot Com as a criminal.  His greed and actions did cause him a lot of problems.  While he has had success his business methods differ from mine.  I'm more curious about those who see no risk in BTC.  Using a huge risk taker like him as an endorsement makes me think you must see the risk.

So far none of the points show me that BTC is going up based on its value as a currency.  Many new services may accept it but the volume before this run up does not indicate to me that this run up is not (above $50USD/BTC) speculation.  I counter the claim that those insisting this is a bubble don't know what is going on.  In return I say those claiming this is not a bubble do not understand that massive speculation always ends with disaster.  I'm sure I don't need to rehash all of the past run ups based on speculation we saw die.  Every since the 1990s I've made money shorting speculators.  It is a very simple method that makes a lot of money.

USD is experiencing a dramatically increased rate of inflation. Google Tomato Soup Index.

Bitcoin ATM is absolutely happening. Not speculation. Keep up.

The wonderful thing about Bitcoin is that if you're too dense to understand the problems with your statements, you are the one that suffers. It's another reason Bitcoin is going to succeed. People who are in the right finally get rewarded.

Have fun sticking to the "it's a bubble" nonsense, I've been hearing it since the price went from $2 to $3. You guys don't understand what Bitcoin is.

I remember the jump from $0.11 to $0.17-19 and everyone was convinced it would fall/fail/implode/rot.

Hmmm, nothing like this occurred. I assure you the drum of challenge is long and relentless. I was looking for Bitcoin before I knew what was a bitcoin. I learned of a theory that the current bottleneck of commerce was working against market forces. It led me to Bitcoin in April 2010.
The theory is based on the fact that the missing wealth of the current system would appear through technology and change, whether aided by us, or by steamrolling all protesters. Read up on technological change since the middle ages and you see many opportunities and pitfalls for entrepreneurs. We are actively forcing the door of change against all 6 centuries of financial repression.
I feel bad for the manuscript writers of the 15-16 century, saboteurs of the late industrial period, industrial modernists of current times, and the business elites of the past 20 years. Never saw it coming/no warning. Technology spares no mal-adapters, contrarians, ludites, or soapbox sideshow bobs. Enjoy the show and keep your wallet fat.

What is it ? A mining pool ?

It's a faucet, you put in your Bytecoin address and it gives you free coins, at the moment I'm keeping the payout amount to a minimum until it's properly tested. Smiley
Nice job LucasJones!

Congratulations everyone, this is an awesome milestone. I remember daydreaming about it back in May 2011 when I bought my first few coins.

And it didn't hit $100 for no reason... it's because of the tireless individuals around the world building this system in a hundred directions. Truly amazing and inspiring to see this happen.

Time to keep working Smiley
