101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 25, 2014, 02:14:26 PM
This may be a first in the history of electronics? Some one actually complaining that a new electronic product is too small and compact. I have 1000 x 32" CRT TV's in stock for sale if you are interested.

That's disingenuous, in no way was I complaining about the size, I'm complaining about the noise and heat.

The comments regarding the size of the unit are about its intended market, the white hat concept they are espousing "We're committed to the distribution of the hash-rate and the long term viability of the eco-system." when really they have designed their product to fit their vision of a mining moving to big datacenters which is not about distribution of the hash rate.

If it was about distribution of the hash rate they could easily have designed a product using their chips that would work in any environment, using a larger case and larger lower speed fans.

I am not saying is that they are wrong to do this from a business perspective, they must be planning on selling an enormous amount of them to big datacenter or cloud mining concerns otherwise they wouldn't have been able to raise the VC funding in the first place.

True but not true.
If you look for efficiency, a datacenter is the best place where you can put your miners. Stabilized temps, secured facilities, etc. If you take the SP10, I believe that even with large fan, large rack etc, the outgoing air would be damn, damn hot (46°c). The power consumption (4000w for 3SP10, 4.2 Th/s) is a big concern. It means that you need 1.3 kW for your machine + 0.6kw to cool it properly. Do the math (I did it to late indeed) and even in France, I realized that housing in a DC is cheaper than home.
Datacenter are more likely working as B2B (business to business) but if you look for it, you'll find a a datacenter working as B2C (business to consumer) as well.

nop, just people speculating so they can make more money. later. nothing to bother about. I'll wait till next week before looking at the market again.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to forum, and still has the status of a Jr Member Smiley you are warned, you know what to do, trust, escrow or go away (I don't feed the troll).

I rent the hash rate of my SP10s. I only rent the full capacity of the miner. It means that you can rent one miner and you'll not have the hand on the management interface, by default they are working in turbo mode.
I lease 3xSP10.

There is multiple review of the SP10 and it is known as a very solid and stable unit :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=525469

Miners are hosted in France, Velizy Villacoublay, very close to Paris. Datacenter is GDC1, you can consult their website @ http://www.gdc1.fr
They are stored in a secured rack (I and the technical has the key). Access to the datacenter is done by badge and vein authentication, the most secure biometric from today. 99.99% availability, technical assistance on site. Remote control of PSU.
Average temp in the room is 20°C +/- 2°C.

Pricing :
  • 1 month SP10 : 1000$ or bitcoin market.
After payment, shipping in 24h or less.
  • 2 month SP10 : 1800$ or bitcoin market.
Pay the full amount or pay 1000$ the first month and 800$ the second month.
After payment, shipping in 24h or less.
  • 3 month SP10 : 2400$ or bitcoin market
Pay the full amount or pay 1000$ the first month, 1000$ the second month, 400$ the third month.
After payment, shipping in 24h or less.
Payment by wire transfer, or bitcoin.

Of course, I can discuss discount base on how many SP10 you rent.

105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 22, 2014, 01:16:43 PM
There is not enough words to describe how i feel with this news toys.
http://hpics.li/f4953e9

an average of 1.35 in quiet, 1.45 in normal, 1.55 in turbo. Th/s of course !

The 3 miner are working perfectly. The bottom become very hot, very fast, so to put down the temp i space them.
In air temp : 23°C
Out air temp : 45°C (46°C if I don't space them a little).
The noise of the PSU is the main root of noise in quiet/normal.

Very very nice work Spondoolies-Tech !

It wouldn't be too much if I highly recommend those guyz. Respect the shipping delay, respect the customer with true specs, listening if you have any problem.

On this good words, i'm gonna finish my miniDC so I can post pics soon Smiley

Thanks again SP-T Smiley Smiley Smiley

How many people are going to be plugging in that 5.4Th/s at 2500W at home?

I will plug 3 of them. At home I'm running on 230V.

Hi man,

do you live next to a river ? you can buy cheap hydro generator like this :

source : http://www.ph-energies.com/index.php/energie-hydraulique/turbine-kaplan/serie-mhg-lh

it will generate about 1kw to 5kw depending on the model you buy.
Advantage : low maintenance cost (almost nothing)
Disadvantage : need a building close to a river with descent water flow, need to plan it seriously with the help of expert because this is serious shit here Smiley

As i live in France, it's pretty easy to me to find good place, dunno for USA. Maybe you need to move for free electricity;)

PS : its working
i have 2 ponds with a waterfall between them. but i suppose it wont generate enough power to pump the water back otherwise thats perpetual energy and that cant exist.

well, perpetual energy does exist : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8yW5cyXXRc

Now that just seems like unnecessary tech-cruelty.

I vote for a more freerange keeping of your spondoolies units.

After all, the quality of your minted bitcoins will suffer when the fans cant turn freely in cool air, as they wish.

Raskul has a good approach there.

i'm gonna buy an extractor running @ 1000m3/H. If it's not enough air flow, i will add an AC so the temperature inside the room which may not be other 25°C. I'm gonna get 3x SP10 tomorrow so i'll update with real number cause all I do here is speculation. It's bad.

This is ridiculous.... Roll Eyes

Well you are talking about 11,4 KW of cooling capacity, roughly 41000 BTU if i am not mistaken.
Yes, this will take some serious engineering... and maybe a datacenter solution would be more fitting.

I can see this working in a double garage (or even a single one) but in a 10m² space?
I hope your power is cheap so it will be worth the effort.

you got it wrong,it's 10m3 volume, even better Grin
power is at 0.14€/kwh max and will soon cost 0.10-0.12€/kwh

datacenter are way too expensive. when i look for a space most of them refused to add equipment like that or only with fees which cost more per month than all my installation...
btw, any hosting solution annoys me...

The render may be misleading. SP30 will have 80mm fans
Is there anything else 'misleading' that we should know about?  The more things the manufacture 'misleads' me on, the more plans I have to discard and start over.  Would any of the other things you are misleading your customers on have the word 'August' in there?

RawDog, we never hinted or said that the SP30 is a done product. We've said from the get go that it's under development.
What we're committed to is the spec: 5.4 THs +- 10%, 2500 Watt, 2U rack mounted form factor.
The first SP30s will be shipped to customers in July. This is another commitment.
It's actual look may be a bit different from the SolidWorks rendering in the web site.

The below is not targeted towards RawDog:
Please don't start another cycle of commitment vs terms of sales.

Why don´t you just install ac in your garage and put the units there,
that should take care of most of the sound problems.

even better, install it in a relative's garage.  Cheesy what noise? can't hear a thing.

Best way of getting back at your mother-in-law  Wink

.. but seriously, most of your noise concerns should be gone when putting it in an adjacent buidling or even a free standing garage.

not if you live in an apartment at the 4th floor. So you know, the miniDC (i'm gonna call it like that now;D) will be close to my daughter's room.
Already have some experience with sound less engine. I don't think that this low 70db will be a problem.

Btw i'm not using low profile acoustic foam. I'm using professional foam. cost less than 130€ to cover the entire room including the door.

Run them flat, the passive convection won't mean much compared to the airflow from the miners. Also the acoustic foam chimney is a bit of a misnomer, it changes the frequency profile of the noise rather than reducing it (confirmed).

don't have space to run them flat.
and yeah, the foam modify slightly the sound because it breaks the wave, but you have to admit that if you're 3 meters away from the door you won't hear a fly fart.
Do you hear about the alpha sabine factor ? it's the value indicating whether the foam entirely absorb the sound (=1) or entirely reflect it (=0). varies up the frequency.

Hi. Here is a reply from Kobi, our VP operations:

There is no problem to install the SP vertically.
There is one issue he should pay attention too:
The Air flow and the inlet air opening physical size of the "Extracteur Winflex VK 100 mm 250 m3/h" is sufficient to ~2 SP10 or a single SP30.
Installing more units in a closed room will cause the hot air to be captured inside and to increase it total temp.

Hi zvi, thanks to Kobi Smiley
Do you have specification of the fans 40mm and 80mm ? I want to do the math myself

EDIT : Thanks at Dogie for high quality pics, I've got it for the 40mm: http://www.ystech.com.tw/db/upload/product/p-201111817053-2.pdf

   model            RPM      m3/h   dB
2    FD124028EB-P        16000    44    51.5
3    FD124028EB-P        13000    36.3    49.5
4    FD124028EB-P        11000    32.2      47
5    FD124028EB-P        9500      28.3   41

so now just need the parameters used by the firmware.
now, even the fan are working at their lowest level I would need to extract at least 170m3/h per SP10. Give then fact that this unit has 80-90% efficiency it would mean that I have to extract at least 150m3/h per SP10 and lets say 300m3/h for SP30. I need to extract 450m3/H * 3 batch = 1350 m3/h !!!!!
The room is only 10m3, it mean that i will need renew the air of the room more than twice a minute to keep the temp inside same as outside the room.
This is ridiculous.... Roll Eyes

I think it's OK, but I will consult the board guys day after tomorrow (we have Passower holidays still). You can mail me at zvi@spondoolies-tech.com if something doesn't work on the SW side. We did some testing with acoustic foam chimney, it is possible and does help with the noise but you really need to know what you are doing because if you do it wrong you can burn your house. We do not encourage it and take no responsibility if something happens, but it is your miner Smiley

I am not sure that you will need the fan at the bottom, as long as there is good air flow in front and in back it will suck all the air it needs. The SW should protect the miner from overheating by downscaling voltage and then stopping the miner.
I'm well aware that it can burn my house ^^ it's why i choose heat and fire resistance for the foam.  Shall be good, but i'll have a powder extinguisher next to the room in case of. If the miner stop by itself in case of overheat, it's fine, if not I'll email you or ofc post a message here for a best practice.
PS: enjoy the holiday and have a good rest !

- do you have a very good handle on your airflow requirements? Until you do this you cannot size your fans or ductwork. Essentially what you need is to exceed the maximum cumulative airflow of the built-in fans of all your miners
- once you have this sorted you can size your ductwork and fans. I'd strongly suggest learning basics HVAC concepts unless you have experience in the area. I too have found that found that hydroponic websites (pot growers for the most part) have a ton of relevant info.
People into it gave me advice on the setup. it's renewing more than 25times the air of the room each hour, grossomerdo, the air of the room is entirely renewed every 2/3 mns. I'm using solid aluminium ductwork and everything is fixed with aluminium tape.

Quote
- If noise is a concern look into mixed flow fans, which produce high airflow and static pressure but can be very quiet. I'm very happy with my fans from the Soler and Palau TD silent series. Ensure the fans you purchase can handle the airflow temperature! Oh, and buy/use grills on your intakes! Also consider having a spare fan on hand!
~36db for the fan, grills with filter (for dust) already installed. I will buy a spare fan, it's a good idea.
Quote
- vertical stacking is great in theory (I actually run a vertical setup) but keep in mind practical considerations like access to power/data connections both at the wall and to your miners. It also can be much more awkward to swap equipment.
about the connections, i've already worked it out, my installation will fit perfectly -i hope Grin-
for the switch of equipment, its a concern but I trust SP to make good equipment that does not fail every week.
Quote
- do you have a plan for how you going to channel the air to force it through the miners? The airstream will take the path of least resistance, and the last thing you want is the air going around your miners and not through them
yep, the grey part will be stick, not attached, to the pack of appliance + a fan below.
Quote
- you might want to look into ($$/size/noise) a central ac system which will support your airflow requirements in advance...
- I've found a thermal camera (e.g. Flir) is an incredibly useful tool (!!)
not relevant for me yet... i can cool down the house with only one AC. but i like the idea of the thermal camera !!
Quote
- finally, consider the impact if one if your fans fails in the middle of the night - I'm not overly familiar with Spondoolies miners, I imagine they have thermal shutdown capability?

zvisha answer that :

The SW should protect the miner from overheating by downscaling voltage and then stopping the miner.
112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 08:56:35 PM
So, point is that these do get hot and for people with 1 or 2 they may not be able to cool it adequately and not everyone wants to host their miners.

I plan to host 3 sp10 and 3 sp30. I will cool it with air from the house (~20°C atm) and when temp will get higher i will buy an AC for the house. I will put it in a very small room but with high air flow. In add off, i don't plan to stock those appliance horizontal but vertically with a big fan on bottom and big extractor on top.
I believe that it will be good for several reason :
- heat goes up
- horizontal fan make less noise
- easier for me to stack it (the room is very tiny)

Here my plan :

The grey part will be stick to the appliances with a hole to make place for power supplies (I plan do to twice shown on picture).
The fan on bottom is... a fan, nothing more Cheesy
The air extractor will be something like this : http://www.cultureindoor.com/1299-extracteur-winflex-vk-100-mm-250-m3-h.html
Notice it's from a growshop, they do great pricing.

My last concern is about the bottom of appliance getting hot. I guess i will put 1/2 cm between each appliance and let the fan/extractor do the rest.

Last but not least, i hate the noise. really, badly, whatever... :@
So, i will isolate the door (got some good experience there) and catch the noise with self-adhesive acoustic foam. Already found some very good foam with an α (alpha Sabine) over 0.80 for frequency over 2kHz.

Of course, I've already installed the smoke detector, just in case off :p

Tell me what you think and, SP-T, please tell me if putting the miners vertically is a problem...

Regards,

PS:i shall be delivered on monday, tuesday, so expect pictures soon Smiley

Hi everyone,

i'm still waiting for my sp10 to be delivered (still in israel atm Cry) and i was wondering if there is an option to schedule the power consumption ?
in france we have full hour (0.14€/kwh) and empty hour (0.10€/kwh). I would like to schedule full power during 8 hour and "quiet" during 16 hour.
Already implemented ? add it to the todolist ?

That wouldn't make sense, the SP10 is making 0.1 BTC a day, that's about 35 €.

Far more than your power consumption (30kwh/day), even at 0.14 €, do the math!

 Wink

that's so true.... Smiley but hey save the planet ^^

Quote
Hi.
We will put it in our todo task queue, but not at high priority. What you can do for now is to set that in cron. Note that the time of miner is rather random, and you can not change it's time when it is mining. So do the following:

Set miner time:
1) ssh to your miner
2) spond-manager stop
3) date +%T -s "10:13:13"

In order to start miner in "quiet" mode, "echo 0 > /etc/mg_work_mode; spond-manager start".
In order to start miner in "turbo" mode, "echo 2 > /etc/mg_work_mode; spond-manager start".

Just add cron jobs you want.
Note that the system will forget the time after reboot, and it can reboot if your internet is down for over 5 minutes, so this is not proof solution. We will add timeserver support very soon.
Also note that directory /etc/ is non-volatile, while other directories are volatile.

I believe that we will have something ready within 2 weeks, but can not commit at this point.

Many thanks zvi Smiley

Thats a great suggestion. I think Spondoolies can add this to their next FW.

For now, if you're familiar with Linux, you can make a cron job. Its not too hard as all the tools are available in the current FW.

that's an option, but i don't want to manipulate the system since I don't completly understand it. do you have a best practice ?

no, its not working atm, it's far away from where I live. With my setup, i've been able to take out between 1-2 kwh from a 3.5kwh . My setup is not great and i don't have enough flow to make it work @ 100%.
I've find one for you with the different step of installation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqKiesYY1xQ

edit : I paid 4k€ for a kaplan turbine 3.5 kwh (can remember the brand) without the cost of the additional work.
