101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Campaign to BOYCOTT BITCOIN! on: January 13, 2015, 05:42:52 AM
Bitcoin is still the most widely accepted crypto by merchants. Boycotting it would be bad for business for some of us. Although if more cryptos start to be accepted, I may consider other options.
102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Wall Street will most likely never invest much in bitcoin on: January 06, 2015, 02:33:29 AM
1. Bitcoin has to show that it is the dominant crypto platform with a long staying power. However to prove that, it needs large scale buy and hold from wall street, resulting in catch 22 situation.
2. If you look at one of Peter Thiel's videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUMgK0TyV1Q), he talks about supporting monopolies. Bitcoin is an open system, hence no monopoly is likely which we should be happy about.
3. Wall street understands companies, even companies with platforms (Apple, Google, Microsoft, facebook, etc). They do not understand or invest vast sums into platforms that are not associated with one dominant company. Example-Linux and now bitcoin.
4. Cons of bitcoin (from the wall street perspective): bitcoin does not have a single charismatic leader that Wall Street comes to trust (a la Gates, Jobs, Besos, Zuckerberg, Page/Brin).

Conclusion: Wall street will try to build up and promote some crypto 2.0 (ethereum) that is/are associated with certain leaders (Buterin/Wood) or an alternative 1.0 (XRP). We'll see if that works.

Bitcoin has to survive and thrive WITHOUT wall street, as was originally intended.

You really have no case to stand on. Pure speculation. There has never been an open source technology as popular or powerful as bitcoin. So you don't really know how Wall Street will respond. None of us do.

Their response so far has been less than spectacular. I'm starting to really doubt that Btc is ever going to go mainstream.
103  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: December 31, 2014, 02:52:19 PM
Bitcoin has stage 4 terminal cancer. The doctor said chemo is having no effect whatsoever and to prepare for the worst.

My condolences  Cry
104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Official Bitcoin Price Prediction for Dec 31, 2014 on: December 31, 2014, 02:29:47 PM
What the experts predicted a year ago:
http://foundersgrid.com/bitcoin-price

Those folks were all making predictions based on the November 2013 bull run. Just goes to show that even the so-called bitcoin experts are really just as clueless as your average Joe.
105  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Price Go Exponential Now that Christmas is Over? on: December 28, 2014, 08:00:35 PM
The days of exponential rises are long gone...
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: December 08, 2014, 02:26:33 PM
Is anyone else concerned that MaidSafe doesn't use a blockchain or any kind of a ledger?  Bitcoin's ledger is obviously central to its existence and I wonder if MaidSafe can be as secure without one.

From my understanding, the network will keep track of the previous and current owner instead of all the transaction history.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: December 08, 2014, 01:48:53 AM
Looks like people are starting to take notice, price has almost doubled. I can only imagine where it will be once we get to the next stage of testing the system. Exciting stuff!
I wouldn't read too much into such a short pump. There are plenty of reasons why crptos shoot up in price and then fall back to close to their previous levels. If the price went up for no reason in the last 2 days, it can drop back for no reason in the next 2 days. But yes, definitely exciting stuff overall.

I think there is a reason for this rise. It's been creeping up slowly for over the last 2 months. I've been watching the price closely and it appears that a large investor(s) is trying to accumulate a large amount of maidsafe without making the price rise too much.
108  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: December 06, 2014, 10:38:27 PM
2014 is turning out to be the year of Maidsafe Wink

109  Economy / Speculation / Re: NEW ATH BY END OF JULY & $5000 PER BITCOIN BY END OF YEAR on: December 01, 2014, 06:57:12 PM
Is there any chance that this could still happen? Please guys, I need to make money on this investment.

I would not bet on it. The chance of hitting $5k by the end of the year is something like 0.0000001%, give or take a few zeros Cheesy
110  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-24] Colossal rise of Bitcoin article reads on Wikipedia on: November 25, 2014, 01:52:10 AM
OP, there should be an option in the bottom left of the thread for you to move it.

That traffic doesn't look to be real imo.
111  Economy / Speculation / Re: when to invest? on: November 23, 2014, 11:00:29 PM
You're asking if it's a good idea to invest into bitcoin on a forum where most people have a financial incentive in seeing bitcoin rise  Wink

I would wait until the 50k silk road coins are auctioned off, but that's just me.
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 23, 2014, 08:10:23 PM
It appears that we may be in for another downturn unfortunately. Brace yourselves for the incoming post dump Cheesy

113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: November 23, 2014, 03:48:42 PM
I think it's because the project is very ambitious in its goals. I've been reading some of the threads on maidsafe.org and it's apparent that this is way beyond being just another altcoin. They don't really even talk about the safecoin currency much but mostly focus on the innovative features of the SAFE network.
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: November 23, 2014, 04:42:04 AM
excepts the asks are much weaker

Relative to when?  I bought less than a week ago at 51 and the asks on both exchanges are higher as of now...

As for coinmarketcap, the price has increased a bit since it was switched over to the assets category.  It should also be noted that once the switch to Safecoin occurs, it will return to being listed with currencies since it will no longer be a Mastercoin asset (it's a token now until the network goes live and occurred as a function of the crowd sale).

There is the beginning of a discussion on promotion, though, on the Maidsafe forums.  Some are thinking that there is no need for it due to the nature of the project...but I am sure that any and all perspectives are welcome...; )

https://www.maidsafe.org/t/does-projectsafe-actually-need-promotion/2030
to before that 1.8million buy

And I disagree.  I've been watching it like a hawk and we have seen nothing but growth.  Any weaker signs (which I don't recall since 51) from a market perspective are likely the result of bots.

Regardless...today was a pretty good day regarding asks...; )

I've been watching the market closely too. It appears that someone with a lot of btc is slowly buying up large amounts of maidsafe. A sort of bullwhale, if you know what I mean.

There it goes again. 120 btc worth of maidsafe bought. The wall at .0000775 is almost eaten, and that's the only major sell wall for maidsafe. I wonder what will happen after that.
115  Other / Off-topic / Re: becoming suicidal on: November 23, 2014, 01:51:45 AM
All my life savings is in bitcoin , I even sold my son's bike to buy bitcoin.
My mental health is based on the btc market. So I'm very bipolar.
Today was a very depressed day , I tried to kill myself but now I'm a bit better.
For now I just lay in bed with a bottle of wisky trying to sleep.

Does anyone know if there is a small change we ever see 1000$ again?

thank you

The reality is that no one knows if we'll see $1000 again or not. Sure there's a chance that we'll see it again, but it's impossible to quantify it. If btc is causing you this much distress, it may be a good idea to cut your losses and get out.
116  Other / Off-topic / Re: The founder of GEMS is an Israeli propagandist! on: November 20, 2014, 03:24:59 AM
That's right, keep calling me a troll instead of addressing how you hasbara goons get paid by the Israeli government to spread propaganda.
117  Other / Off-topic / The founder of GEMS is an Israeli propagandist! on: November 20, 2014, 01:15:58 AM
I made this post on the GEMS announcement page today:

See here: http://il.linkedin.com/pub/daniel-peled/21/833/734

Peled1986 is not a dev. His specialties include academic research and writing, legal research, public speaking, Hasbara. Don't see anything about programming there. Maybe he'd like to share with us details about his hasbara work, as I'm sure he must be very skilled in that field. How much does the Israeli government pay you to shill for them Daniel?

How many Palestinians did you murder lieutenant peled?

I wouldn't invest half a satoshi in a venture that contributes to the economy of the rogue nation of Israel, which is notorious for spying heavily even on their closest allies. For all we know, it could be the shin bet that is developing GEMS to spy on users.

Soon after, peled1986 removed hasbara as one of his specialties and replaced it with 'public diplomacy.' The Israeli government actually pays youths, mostly university students, to post propaganda on the internet in an attempt to improve their image and legitimize them in the eyes of the world. They call it 'hasbara.'

He then makes a post about how someone (me) feels about his ethnicity/religion are free to post in the off-topic section.

To anyone that wants to engage me regarding political views, they can do so via PM or starting an off-topic thread, but the thread in question is to discuss Gems, the crowdsale etc. If someone feels like my ethnicity/religion prevents them from participating, they are free to stay away from the crowdsale.

Well here is the off-topic thread you requested. I never mentioned your ethnicity nor religion, but I did mention your nationality (Israeli) and political beliefs (Zionism). Do they teach you to try and twist things around like that in hasbara school?

To this other hasbara goof:
Man,
How did this smart project thread suddenly attract so many trolls,
(MRBIG & Tuawnsew)

@ MRBIG - You can add gems to this list of israeli products and services to boycott

http://prepperchimp.com/2014/07/22/so-you-want-to-boycott-israel-heres-a-list-of-products-and-services-you-need-to-start-with/

Infact - you shouldn't even be using a computer and trolling this thread if you really believe what you are writing - The computer your using undoubtedly contains israeli manufactured hardware and software.

I would also like to know what country you are from to have a view point which makes you immune to being a hypocrite or subjected to double standards ideology.

I'm sure those Israelis invented hummus, falafel and tabouli too, right? Keep the propaganda coming boys.

I've already made my statement, and people can see it and judge for themselves, so I'm going to leave your thread after this post. For the record, I didn't mention your ethnicity nor religion once. Israelis do not constitute a specific ethnic group, nor is Zionism a religion.

My review: I can vouch for the OP, I got the account promptly from him via PM, and it's working just fine.

I have doubts about this coin but what an asshole thing to do to publicly trash a guy. There are very few people who put their public profile forward in crypto, he could of stayed anonymous.

So firstly even if you disagree with the views of the Israeli government choosing not to invest in someone from that country would rule out say anyone investing in Bitcoin or any coin coming out of the US which has by far the worse record of surveillance of any nation today. Plus you got to add that Daniel would have national service so he had no choice plus he clearly does have a negative view of mass surveillance cause he's built a friken app to avoid it! Plus he has been clear he has no programming skills and has a team doing that and that he has a Law background.

Oh please, what a bunch of rubbish. That picture of him is from an article that talks about how very proud his father is that all of his Zionist children serve in the Israeli army. This isn't a case of guilt by association. This individual proudly serves the Zionist cause and even lists hasbara, or Zionist propaganda, as one of his specialties. Many Americans are against the policies of their government and I personally know people who deserted from the army there based on moral grounds. This guy does not fit that description.

It's not only about publicly shaming a guy, as you insinuated, but rather, about warning people not to invest in a venture that will economically support Zionist aggression against the indigenous people of that land.
