101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: September 30, 2016, 09:22:00 PM
I just realized that's the third SLR wallet thats running on a Intel PC Stick. I remember going to the shop here and the sales guy asked me why I needed it. I remember him telling me not to buy it because it could barely be used for anything. Then I told him it was for some sort of bitcoin project and that it would do the job for what I needed to do! The sales guy laughed but gave it to me anyway

I tried setting up a rasperbby PI a few days before but without success. The intel PC stick made things a lot easier! Every SLR wallet should be running on this kind of setup!
I have a couple of Pis a model 2 and a model 3, the problem isnt the hardware but there is no Linux repository, I tried installing from the download but it just doesnt work.  I asked on GitHub but AFAIK nothing was completed.

Please add a Linux PPA.  Please.  Please.  PLEASE.

News item in Venezuela.

https://criptonoticias.com/aplicaciones/conozca-solarcoin-slr-una-criptomoneda-ecologica/#axzz4J84feOIz

Please note due to current US treasury OFAC regulations.

https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Pages/venezuela.aspx

SolarCoin is not available for granting in Venezuela.

When sanctions are lifted SolarCoin grants may resume retroactive to Jan 1, 2010.

This concerns me as you're basically saying that SolarCoin is governed by US law which effectively undermines what you're trying to achieve with SolarCoin as a global solar rewards scheme. Are you able to elaborate on this please?
You can still send SLR there if you arent a US citizen, but I think the Solarcoin Foundation is registered in the US as a charity so they are limited by US law.
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: August 31, 2016, 06:22:40 AM
Well of course he is Smiley the trick is to buy his coins. The 23k buy was me...Hell run out faster if we buy them haha Grin

Grin   Imagine if those coins he dumped last 2.5 months where in the hands of stronger people we would be at 50 cents right now. Are time will be soon either way.

Yeah who knows where we would be! Its nuts because I get the feeling almost everyone else has been holding for years.
At the same time this guy is just super greedy he will obviously try to buy back at a profit. The question is who will be selling their coins. you must have seen the 250k and 450k buy orders around 0.00001000 - 0.00002000.

But in all honesty I just don't think anyone is going to sell him that amount of coins at that price. It's ridiculous. Like I said earlier I won't be selling and I have a good feeling about most of the SLR holders/community.
But hey if it does reach those really low prices I wont hesitate to invest some more

Edit: He is probably the only one with that amount of coins that would be willing to sell haha

Edit 2: 38 BTC of buy support right now

The seller can't get them back cheaper they are cashing out and can't wait 40 years lol, why would you buy a coin to sell it cheaper? That is why distribution needs to happen. The large holders must sell off. Then there is median price point that won't go down anymore. If all of this PoW coin hangs out there waiting to pounce on people buying in, the price may stagnate. This is your network metric at work too. SolarCoin has such a monumental market that the PoW coin can erode simultaneously while claimers try to get their due also. Too bad it never took off like XMR maybe the PoW holders could pump XMR style!

Well I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I think the seller has every intention to get every single coin back + more.
And yes XMR got pumped like crazy :p But nothing new here. These pumps and dumps come and go. I would not touch Monero where it is now..I sold the few I had yesterday and I'm getting more SLR with that !

You see 6 months ago it was interesting to see anything over 5 BTC support on the buy side.
Now all of a sudden we have 250 000$  in BTC just chilling on the buy side...
That tells me everything

It's really starting to become serious (I remember there being like 1500$ buy support) and I think it wont be long until we get added on other exchanges.

I agree that it was a quick rise on the XMR side of things but I don't believe it to be a pump and dump, the incorporation of XMR to Darknet markets isn't a small thing, if people start using it instead of bitcoin then it's a game changer for XMR and it's current price is nothing. Don't forget it's that same thing that took bitcoin from a few cents to dollars per coin then 10s of dollars per coin. I agree that there is speculative money in there too hoping for that exact situation, but I don't agree that it's a pure pump and dump. I personally really like monero as well as solar coin. I think privacy is an important thing and ideally I'd have a Solarcoin ethos and POST with Monero privacy that would be my perfect coin.

Sure, I wasn't really calling it a PnD just a Pump. They can buy up their own coin and then level off if they are smart.

Privacy? There is no way around that if you like FIAT. KYC-AML the exchange has to know you. What you do in the dark eco system may be one thing, but everyone has to come out into the light of day somewhere.

I think the Devs at Burst and Qora could help SolarCoin achieve their end goals. They have AT implementation and have successfully transferred ACCT (Atomic Cross-Chain Transfers) through CIYAM development. Burst is green mining through PoC on memory hardened algo.

I also noticed the 40 BTC buy support went to 10 one day then back to 40. To be a serious coin it has to have this type of market so this may be the profits rolled in from PoW coin to back the market. Smart idea!

Totally but ideally we don't want to use fiat currency, I see a future (want a future) where everything is bought and sold with crypto in everyday life which would be great.

Then delist from the exchange and make a go at it Smiley

I do where I can, I'm a minimalist so I don't spend much, food, rent and some scooter petrol. Other stuff when needed I get online and always look for a crypto accepting shop, but unfortunately where I currently live in the end of Spain crypto is unheard of so makes shopping for food a bit difficult :/ that's why I plan to move to the Barcelona area where I can spend crypto. Smiley

Very cool, you are truly an idealist and a person after my own heart and mind about crypto. I hope Brexit doesn't affect you too much. You do know about the Bail-In's that happened in Italy right? This will be coming to America soon! Brexit happened right when 140Trillion came due. It is being shuffled for the next president to deal with. Hillary will make us own part of the banks and Trump say screw you take your toxic illegal debt and eat it.
Ahhh Brexit, thats being left for the next Prime Minister to deal with, you think they will touch it, I think not (at least I hope not)

I really don't see the doom and gloom scenario CryptoNick. Solarcoin is just another form of barter. It's not always going to be necessary to turn it into straight currency.
For solar installers its a kind of loyalty programme, they dont have to sell their SLR to get the value from it, they can use it to entice their installed customers to buy complementary items/add ons like batteries or maintenance.  They can then re-issue it to new customers as a system purchase incentive.  Although in theory this costs them money to do, they are securing future revenue streams, which is more valuable, its why the supermarket allows you to have clubcard points rather than a straight discount.

Thanks very much. If anyone sees typos please let me know and we can easily fix.
Upvoted article and all responses, come on team!  Im just powering down my little pile of steaming STEEM, when I get the final payout in 2 years time Ill have to see how much it actually became worth....

Anyone having problems syncing, had to power down my PC today and on restarting Im not able to get back in sync, Im just getting slowly further behind in the number of blocks.

Download the new bootstrap, rescan, or both. It should repair the problem.
Yeah I had to redownload the blockchain, sorted itself out then, thanks.

Might as well flood them again.

https://poloniex.com/coinRequest

Maybe Poloniex is mad that they didn't buy any under 1 cent.  Grin

That was exactly my thought when I read the news

At this rate we might go back to that price....

SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sky is not falling just confidence has been lost... I think in a week or so we will purge the new comers who came to make a quick buck..
Speculators need the price swings, seen it all before, big ups = big downs.  Steady growth over time is what we realy need.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: July 02, 2016, 12:56:29 PM
Many have asked about the recent events around the Poloniex misunderstanding.  Key things are now clear.  We will be acting on these things to prevent future mis-communication and mis-representation.  The placement of the logo was not correct procedure.

The logo was placed on the site by a well meaning volunteer recently brought in to handle the foreign language aspects of the site. He mis-interpreted the Poloniex language to indicate that placement of the logo would enable listing in the next update of the exchange.

Unfortunately, due to the amount of activity and business development resources dedicated to the run up to Intersolar and numerous projects on the ElectriCChain, the communication and the placement of the logo was visible on the site far to long to confirm with Poloniex if the listing was pending, but received no replies until the recent twitter posting.

The logo should have been removed promptly. Going forward the SolarCoin Foundation will not put logos or anything implying an endorsement of independent 3rd party services on the site. Informational links will remain. Only confirmed activities or relationships that are believed to support the growth of the SolarCoin network and mission will be communicated on the SolarCoin website.

I am guessing this means we have burnt our bridges with Poloniex. Are you looking into getting on other exchanges? It would help reduce the market manipulation.
Poloniex shouldnt be too upset, they got some free advertising at least.  If there is enough money to be made Im sure they will forgive and forget.

I know it is super embarrassing (of all photos!), they took a photo of me doing work and I had no idea there was a journalist there!
What i like the most is the paperboard Smiley

We were only in England a few hours, went into a hardware store, bought the huge 1.68m x 0.6m board (with SolarCoin converted to Bitcoin charging a Mastercard) and took it down to the facility and immediately built it. Funny story.
Also our hotel "lost" a 22kg lead-acid battery that was delivered to it. I ended up going behind reception myself and pointing to the battery that they had "lost".
OMG lfloorwalker, when you called me and told me they didnt have the battery; I couldnt believe it!  How did they f'in lose it, I dropped it off on that same day?!  Anyway, it all worked out in the end.

Would the existence of a solarcoin persuade you to invest in that rooftop array?
Not on its own, but then its not the only value stream that comes from a solar array; you obviously get your power to use as you wish, and the grid pays you for your exported power, and you probably get some government incentive, and you get a warm fuzzy feeling from not wreaking havoc on the planet.

When I bought my solar PV system, the decision was very much a risk based excercise, Solarcoin just serves to reduce that risk as an additional support mechanism. As the price of SLR increases then the amount of risk it offsets in that decision process becomes larger.

Lets all message btc-e and request a SLR/BTC and a SLR/LTC pair Smiley Lets make this happen. I already messaged them twice over the last couple of months...   https://support.btc-e1.com/

Also is there any news regarding the addition of Solarcoin on www.uphold.com?
I was an uphold fanboy but then they changed their bank details to a bank in Portugal which makes it a SWIFT transaction for me (Im in the UK) without notification and it left a bit of a sour taste, to be fair its my fault for not checking first but dropping me a note that they had changed would have been good customer service.  I have asked them for SLR a couple of times, perhaps we should mount a little campaign...
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: June 10, 2016, 06:49:00 AM
Hi all,

I had an amazing idea while looking at a bunch of pigeons. We are building data loggers that are solar powered that can connect to the solarcoin granting API. We demonstrated this one working last week in London at the Chain-of-things event.
There is an option as we build out to MVP, this is a good idea I think to add a "mesh networking chip" instead of an internet connection chip (e.g. Huawei dongle), or a case with both.

If we have mesh-networked solar powered solarcoin nodes, we are nearly organic. This means no single point of failure (on hardware layer) and no central internet or power needed and no single point of failure on software layer (blockchain).

What's people's thoughts?

Will investigate further.

Best,
-lfloorwalker
Are there any unique security issues with mesh networks?
I think its a great idea and absolutely in line with the ethos.

Currently waaay to much volatility to day trade....The pump started a couple of days ago. Whales are creating this volitility and pump. I'm afraid they will dump millions of $$ worth when it hits polo (if hits polo - I have not see evidence from polo about this). Be careful.

edit: with this many rich wallets - https://chainz.cryptoid.info/slr/#!wallets - these high prices are not sustainable. Volume is too low even if one wallet "cashes out"

Yikes!

That is scarry. Seems like most of the SLR is on Bittrex. It's probably the total sum that is on the exchange. The whales could of dumped a long time ago but have chosen not to. Given the current price seems some of these wallets have over $100k in SLR. I think getting listed on Polinex will break up the whales then we will hit new highs. I don't see a lot of these whales sticking around for much longer. The 34 mill that is out will get distributed.
I think it depends why you are a whale, if you have a big solar farm and SLR grant is part of your ROI calculation, you arent going to sell out until it hits a price point that it makes your granted SLR achieve your ROI on the solar farm, you arent going to collapse the price, you will slowly sell your invested coins to leave your granted coins at a nice price.  Here is hoping.

This is one of the SolarCoin projects on www.electricchain.org

http://nl.ulule.com/solarly-energie/

english summary https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fichier-pdf.fr%2F2016%2F05%2F24%2Fdossier-solarly-en%2Fdossier-solarly-en.pdf

there are other things going on. crowdfunding partnerships in Europe, hardware research etc.

and yes I have a bias as an advisor for the project.

For the demo tomorrow is anyone going to record it and maybe put it up on youtube?

here is a picture of the team in London.  https://electricchain.slack.com/files/lukep/F1D4TF693/slack_for_ios_upload.jpg  and some of the gear Luke is putting together.  Lots of drilling.
The guys were working til late last night getting ready for today, not ashamed to say I sneaked out early (9PM) and went for some beers with some of the guys.  Nice bunch of people, they deserve plenty of success.  I couldnt be at the event today but Im keen to hear how it went.

Hey guys I think something went wrong with the hard fork. I havn't been giving much attention to my wallet since I installed the new update: Here is my problem.

Before the update everything worked 100% with no issues. However now (even though I am running the correct version of the wallet) I continuously get a message at the bottom saying: Mandatory update to 2.1.1

I already deleted everything in my %appdata% folder and completely reinstalled the wallet twice. Staking works and I am getting stakes although less frequent and much larger than usual. Anyway does anyone else have this issue. I also tried deleting the peers.dat file but no luck. For some reason The wallet thinks im not on the newest version.

I sent some coins to another wallet and checked on the block explorer so im on the correct chain for sure. but it's sill weird.  Undecided
I see that upgrade message too, but everything seems to be working OK so I kind of ignored it

Hi all, for those around Paris on 14th and 15th june, there is a nice conference where big actors will give their feedbacks/needs about future blockchain use /proof of concept. Engie will be there, i think there is a room for lobbying here. There is also a possibility to present future project to submit solution to these huge actors.
All info here http://www.ima-dt.org/conferences/detail/13674-it-innovation-forum.html
You might be better posting that on the Slack channel, everyone here seems to be too busy with another topic.  If you arent a memeber let me know and Ill post it on your behalf.

Hi, could someone from the core team follow the requirements to add Solarcoin to Bitsquare - https://forum.bitsquare.io/t/how-to-add-your-favorite-altcoin/46

I think Solarcoin is unique and interesting enough for them to possibly add SLR without much encouragement...
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: May 08, 2016, 08:33:11 AM
is the price of SolarCoin going down, when the power produced by Solar Cells getting cheaper over time?

That only makes it cost less to claim as you are saying it is cheaper to buy panels. But you are correct when you say the price of SolarCoin will go down if Solar becomes cheaper since more people Claiming and selling will flood the market with coin that it can't support at higher prices. Everyone here likes to tell people the price goes up by claiming but when the market can leave to BitCoin the price goes down. BitCoin is an integral part of SLR and always will be. If the holders of coin right now sell to BitCoin the only way they come back in with their BitCoin is at lower prices, the concept of the market is to buy low sell high and everyone will be doing it at some point so how will it sustain the price later when there will be more people trying to get their claims out into BitCoin and then to Fiat to get the costs of their Solar out. If you get your costs out then that money leaves and doesn't come back. Even if the exchanges let people go from SLR to Fiat the money still leaves to pay for installation costs. How does the SLR market absorb that if there is only so much BitCoin to go around?
'BitCoin is an integral part of SLR and always will be.' I think is a dangerous perception, everything is subject to change.  Will we end up with a global SLR only economy; probably not so the point that people can sell out is reasonable, but it is possible that there can be an SLR economy that stands in its own right without the NEED to sell out to BTC, Fiat or anything else.
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: May 04, 2016, 06:04:46 PM
I still not staking 1 week after moving my coin to my wallet and keeping it open as much as possible.  Sad Huh

Hi,

The number of coin decide the 'possibility of making a block'.

And you can get the staking reward, when you generate new block.

So, If you have small number of coin, you have low chance to generate new block ( Low chance to get the reward)

(The number of coin you are staking )   /   (The total number of stacking coin)  = It is the possibility of making a block of you

Cheers,

So 2000 coins is a low amount of coin?  Embarrassed

You'll hit a stake with that amount within 2 weeks, if you leave it on long enough. I have a wallet with 2300 coins and it's seen a few stakes over a month period.

Thanks guys for the help. Last question, what do you call long enough. How much times everyday do you open your wallet? Tongue
So you need to have your wallet open and unlocked (thats critical) for as long as possible each day.  So I have ~13k SLR, my wallet is unlocked from 7AM - 8PM and I get on average 1 payout per day, however I do have coins in more than 1 address so that probably helps a bit
