Woah Thanks for the positive replies! Lets make this thread viral and hope the admins support this idea.

ps: even if it is accepted i wonder why it took 11 years to implement! Btw do you get BTC reward for idea implementation j/K  Grin or not! Tongue
103  Other / Meta / Re: OP posting easier idetifcation system on: May 08, 2022, 04:11:02 AM
Thanks for the replies. I should have joined this forum back in may 2011 when i had first heard about BTC. Mined it and got free btc and then forgot about it. HDD crashed! it was bitcoin core .4.0 non HD wallet at that time.

Anyways thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the replies. Let me give an real life example of OP system

See how easy it is to view only OP posts!
105  Other / Meta / OP posting easier identification system on: May 07, 2022, 08:01:46 AM
Can the forum software be upgraded to add (OP) in caps after the user handle so to better know the original poster replies. I know that the original poster replies are written by his\her name but you have to concentrate to find the name of the poster. By adding (OP) just after the original poster replies, the human mind can quickly read the replies of the OP he/she only wants to read it.
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Competition to settle a bet and win 0.1btc on: May 05, 2022, 01:05:58 PM
Hey all,

This is a genuine competition.

My friend and I have a bet.

He says that because Bitcoin has been around so long now, it should be possible to crowd source a private key for almost any specific public address as he reckons there will now be databases out there with trillions upon trillions of matched key pairs. I say this is rubbish and it cannot be done.

So, here are 100 addresses. They are all zero balance, sorry.

If anyone can provide a correct private key for any of these addresses, I will give you 0.1 btc.

I don't think it can be done and I'm putting my money where my mouth is.

Prove me wrong haha!

If you do, then you can just post the private key in here for me to check.

Good luck!

Am i on the right track?
EDIt: Dang i thought you were creating a bet and hiding the private keys in the btc addresses. NO it cant be done. Unless someone has posted it online  and it has been indexed. If you can extract private keys buy just having the public key then its game over for bitcoin
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why node operators are not given free bitcoins for hosting blockchain ? on: May 05, 2022, 09:58:18 AM
I know satoshi intended for miners to get the moolah for the hardwork but aren't we node operators part of the bitcoin operational community? As time goes by there will be less node operators due to blockchain size. Coundn't the software be updated to reward node operators for x amount of uptime will lead to x amount to free btc? We are also putting our electricity and hardware to use for the greater good.

I hope someone does a BIP for that

Also i did not want to make a new topic but can node operators vote in BIP? and how do miners vote in BIP?

108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? (satoshi saved it in cd rom! allegedly) on: May 04, 2022, 05:47:20 AM
I was thinking that can this thread be perma pinned?
Do not want to bump the thread every week or so. Will be a great bitcoin forum experiment.
109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please could someone help me with my bitcoin on: April 26, 2022, 11:44:54 AM
Thank you for your rapid replies. I have no idea about wallets or how to use them. There was a lot of technical info in the replies that I have no idea about. I will be sure to check it’s value on the public key place you recommended. If there is any more help you can offer I would appreciate it greatly.

I never heard of these physical coins. Wow!. How many do you have and the value?

ANyways here are the steps

download electrum
https://electrum.org/#home

verify the key(optional if you are scared that the download link is spoofed you must check the keys)

install electrum
step 1
click electrum
step 2
create new wallet
step 3
name the wallet
step 4
click next and select the last option aka import private keys
step 5
enter the private key via qr code is present in the coin or manually write it down
step 6
done!

added online\cloud backup. It seems some people are too lazy careless about security.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? (satoshi saved it in cd rom! allegedly) on: April 25, 2022, 12:45:58 PM
Here is the power of CD. See the second file..
Forgot to save the wallet.dat file
Had first found about btc back in may 2011, downloaded bitcoin core 0.4.0 back on sep 30 2011 and got free btc via bitcoin faucet. Saved the exe file on disc but did not save the wallet.dat file. Mined some in 2012 with geforce 525m and then forgot about it.HDD crashed and threw it away. At that time the blockchain size was 600mb.
The disc still works!

112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? (satoshi saved it in cd rom! allegedly) on: April 25, 2022, 05:50:19 AM
A thought experiment i wanted to know.
I have saved it in a disc (was inspired by satoshi who stated it that he has saved it and buried it)
memorised and saved in hdd in air gapped though!
Where did Satoshi claimed that he saved the private keys in a CD rom, this is the first time i am hearing this claim. Majority of the early coiners were thinking that he left for good and may be he lost his keys so that he wont be able to access the millions of coins he is holding so that he wont be able to move the coins and give a panic heart attack to the rest of the investors  Cheesy.

Edit: so it is another conspiracy wanna be claim  Grin

Hope you have gone through the 14 pages! Grin I believe him
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to see blockchain data via bitcoin core in GUI\windows OS? on: April 24, 2022, 04:13:30 PM
AFAIK, unfortunately, there is no easy solution in Windows to install your own block explorer.

If OP willing to try this luck, he could use install Docker and use Docker version of self-hosted block explorer (such as mempool.space[1]).

[1] https://github.com/mempool/mempool#docker-installation

docker is in linux i suppose. It went over my head.

it took 11 years for electrum bwt plugin. Hope it does not take equally amount of time for someone to create windows blockchain explorer using your bitcoin core app.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? (satoshi saved it in cd rom! allegedly) on: April 24, 2022, 05:49:46 AM
Was expecting guys and gals would atleast vote. Wanted to see the percentage.
115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where have you saved your bitcoin keys? on: April 24, 2022, 05:42:42 AM
It is wrong to only use one option if you ask me. I personally prefer multiple options and multiple backups.
For example you could have a hot wallet on your desktop or your phone containing a small amount of bitcoin that you may need quick access to whenever you want to spend some bitcoin.
Then you also want a secure storage to keep the bulk of your bitcoins which is when cold storage comes in. For backup you could use paper wallets alongside your digital storage (burnt on a disk or a USB stick or old computer,... all airgap).
If you rely on one solution (digital storage for example) you could end up losing access (e.g. data decay in this case).

satoshi who stated it that he has saved it and buried it
Where did Satoshi say this?

Yeah i though of adding multiple options but it would complicate the poll. As for satoshi post, many do not know that he actually posted in an conspiracy forum back in 2013-2014. (allegedly).
Here was his comment

Look.

I told You all, I have my reason why I do hide my identity.

I generated a new key, without email of course to stamp this thread to that key, and when time is right, I do sign my key with my old private one...

Think for Yourself of the consequences I do face.

I do agree, the risk is much less in 2013.

But still there will be wacko out there who are p.ssed off.

I was the guy who did create the concept. Others did step
it to make implementation.

I did communicate very carefull with people, and my private
key is my signature.

There is a lot said on the internet, they do ask people
of the bitcoin foundation for info.

Nobody does release info, and I am pretty satisfied,
the guys keep word.

You known, about 5 years ago, I did receive a full stack of bitcoins by a programmer of the team, by now it would be worth about 100 billion dollars ?

Well, they are somewhere on my CDroms. Somewhere.

And You known I do not care.
I do care about the system, the idea, the filosophy so we can grow to a world which is ready for high speed innovation
without the burden of commercialism.

Money has to be like a metric. To mess with it, is not the right way at all to have an honest way to trade.

So first the money has to be purified. Right now people do trade on a fraudulent system and the hard working man is robbed in the wallet.

Please don ban me, If you think it was fraud post above then censor it. I have saved his communications worth 90 pages in my HDD doc file.

AFAIK, unfortunately, there is no easy solution in Windows to install your own block explorer.

But if you want to minimize third-party services/site usage, a few suggestions for you are to:

1. Use your RPI 400, to install one-click Bitcoin apps solutions like the above suggested.
Some cons are:
 - You have to use another device for your air-gapped wallet.
 - You have to redownload the bitcoin blockchain, unless you want to do some hassle to migrate your bitcoin data on Windows 10.

2. Follow this guide: Bitcoin + Electrum server + Block explorer under Windows (with WSL and Debian) to install your own personal electrum server and block explorer.

The easiest solution without too much hassle is the first option. But if you have limited devices, you might want to go with the second option.

Can i use RPI 400 with mynode or umbrel but it queries the blockchain infor via my bitcoin core app in windows 10? ANy guide?

@OP you should also add steel sheet in your poll. Some people use those as well.

Done.

No need to post where to you save, just vote as it is anonymous.

120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to see blockchain data via bitcoin core in GUI? on: April 23, 2022, 05:02:04 PM
Bitcoin Core isn't really designed to easily search data. You can of course run your own block explorer software (there are a few open source options), but something like blockchair.com is much easier (and less private).

Thats the main reason is that i want to search info within the confines of my network and not use third party like blockchain.com or blockchair. I found this link
https://github.com/search?o=desc&q=bitcoin+block+explorer&s=stars&type=Repositories
CAn anyone guide me which one to choose and how to connect to bitcoin core and search it in a visual representation rather than codes.

I have already linked bitcoin core with electrum bwt so can i link another app like a blockchain explorer with bitcoin core?

Whats the use of bitcoin core if i cannot utlize its full potential.
