Development Update For DIONS implementation July 20th 2015

Hello Community,

This week we are finalizing the messaging feature for DIONS. We have set up a basic routine that will scan the blockchain for messages with given parameters, sender, message body etc and keep a local DB copy in the name index. We will be testing this over the next few days (and probably tweak it) but this will give at least a basic message search and following functionality. We are also adding the QT debug console to our api doc for our wallet dev team. We will also perform a code clean up after testing.  This is our last feature for DIONS V.1

In terms of our new html5 wallet we have so far added 93 New commits. The design and code aspect of the wallet is at about 85% and this week Pat will be coding the back end with more api calls. We hope to gain steam in the next couple of days, our last api calls should be happening next week.

We are aware that the wait has been stretched, but once again everything is being done from scratch. Once we have our new wallet platform, we will be able to use it long term and scale it to our future developments.

We should have some screen shots of our new wallet in the next coming days...

Thanks Everyone

Derek, Pat, Ophie and Joel

Good Morning everyone, hope you are all well.  Wanted to give you all a quick update on what we are up too.

The wallet design and implementation is coming along real nice. We added an extra feature to our DIONS project and it's all being implemented into the wallet as we speak. We are looking to show our community our new wallet design and dions screenshots for our 1 year birthday on July 23rd 2015. We have tested DIONS extensively over the course of 5 months so our task now is to make sure our new wallet system is flawless as can be. Shortly after that we will begin testnet of our new wallet and release DIONS, again DIONS is ready we are now down to the wallet.

Im excited to announce that our PR campaign starts tomorrow. We have been hard at work getting our press release ready.  We hope to reach out to as many people as we can to inform them of our awesome blockchain project.  Im sure when you read our press release you will learn some of the things we are going to be focusing on over the next few months.  Exciting stuff indeed.

Once our press release is out we will be available to answer questions, we hope everyone enjoys the read.

As always we may be quiet, but we are not in the hyping camp. We work hard and deliver. I do however want to keep everyone informed as much as I can. I continue to be very proud of our hard working team.

This might be information overload for some, but you guys are on to something very very big!

Think Ethereum, but bigger ... and actually being available to use.

Great work and thanks for the update, I will be watching closely.

Indeed. I've discovered IOC a couple days ago and I'm pretty excited.

Just too bad you don't have a stable Linux wallet. Is it really experimental or is it "beta" in a Google sense (when everything really works, it's just kinda buck-passing)..?

Yeah, sorry for the overload. It has been very difficult to express our thoughts and actual projects in one good paper.
We have loads of info to share.

About the Linux wallet: i actually don't know the status of that. Joel will answer that.

Thanks for supporting I/O Digital.

ROADMAP ANNOUNCEMENT June 17th 2015

Hi there fellow I/O community members.
Finally we have all our plans written down in a format that is easy to read and understand.

After developing the basic projects (HTML 5 wallet, Gift card, iocoinhub, android wallet and IONS (semi central - Aliases )  to support I/O Coin, we started to think about the future of digital currency and the technology basics. IONS gave us the opportunity to fully test the power of usernames but it was not fully decentralized. It was a start to our user friendly vision and as of October 2014, we defined a new project called DIONS. DIONS and the ideas behind it would change our focus completely. At the time DIONS represented Decentralized Input Output Name Spaces, but more importantly now DIONS also represents “Data on the blockchain”.

The underlying technology of every digital currency (like Bitcoin) is the network – the blockchain. Most digital currencies focus on new wallets, public adoption and functionalities based on the coin they launched. We think different. We focus on the carrying technology – the blockchain.
All news sites are reporting that blockchain technology is the future in decentralized  services. For banks, but also for businesses that have services that could use the blockchain technology. So we were right about that in the early days and therefore we have a big advantage above other initiatives.

Focussing on blockchain development and making it possible to store data in a decentralized blockchain, opens up great opportunities. Think of storing copyrights in a de-central network or create arbitrary services that use this network. Large corporations, banks and institutions are investigating or actually investing in blockchain technology. This is our target group. Blockchain adoption. All this services will require I/O Coins as base fee where the stakers will earn the fees.

Introducing I/O Digital

To streamline our efforts we decided to launch a new overall label, I/O Digital. Today we introduce  I/O Digital as main label for all our activities. All sub projects are part of the I/O Digital family like I/O Coin, DIONS, Chameleon and DIOEX. A new website will be released within a day or so: www.iodigital.io

Do not think that I/O Coin is left behind. I/O Coin is the most valuable asset of I/O Digital. We will also continue to develop the I/O Coin features next to our overall blockchain goals.

We are also closely approaching DIONS release. We have a full working DIONS chain in a private bitbucket, this to avoid any potential copy of our code. We are currently integrating DIONS to our brand new HTML5 wallets, that will be equipped to support all future development.

!! We have more good news !! We also have 95% of Chameleon coded up.  For now we will focus on a successful release of DIONS and will follow up with Chameleon.

Giving back to the stakers

The network must be strong and secure. Stakers help securing the network and are rewarded with staking %. On top of this standard stake reward we will reward the people staking even more. As the roadmap explains, storing data in the blockchain will need I/O Coin to be payed. (this will also create some kind of buy pressure). All fees collected for the storage of data in the blockchain will go to the stakers as an extra incentive. These rewards will be shown separately in your wallet.
The amount mentioned looks to be tiny, but rest assure that when companies will use the chain for their services, these fees can grow exponentially. We are also leaving some room to discuss these fees with the community before launch.

Questions

Please feel free to ask questions about our goals and projects.
We would like to ask you to use BCT thread, iocoinhub or slack for that.

Thank you for all your efforts to spread the word about I/O Coin and I/O Digital. This is highly appreciated.

Joel, Derek, Sam, Richard

I/OCoin Weekly Development update March 28th 2015

Hello Community.... As promised, here we go with this week dev update.  Hope everyone had a good week cause we did... Grin Grin Grin.

Well beta test is almost over and what can I say it has gone as planned.  This week while beta testing DIONS, we found some areas in our current code that will be tweaked to boost our Blockchain performance and overall wallet functionality while sending and stacking coins. Can't go into too much detail, but we will have this updates very well described at launch of DIONS. So I'm just going to fast forward to some very important news. Usually we like to keep things under wrap because we are a always focused on development. We want to make sure we never over promise or hype, but this time we have to share some very important news. We have added a feature to DIONS that was not mentioned in our white paper and this is huge, we have found a way for people to be able to transfer their aliases. This week we successfully ran some tests of the domain name transfer functionality and it is essentially working. Names created in one peer were transferred to the address of another peer
and subsequently showed up correctly in the list of names for the other peer. We need to carry out more tests and fine tuning, but  we can report that it currently looks good and is essentially working.

This new feature adds some more time to our current beta test, but we are closing in on RC1 (release candidate 1) after the release candidates, then we will be working on the wallets to switch our qt and html5 wallet ions tab and so on. We also began compiling our roadmap for the year.

So for now DIONS is looking good with all basic logic working.
e.g. NEW NAME => ACTIVATE => UPDATE / TRANSFER with transferred names
correctly showing up in the target peer name list (i.e. the one with the
target ioc address used for the update)

Our project has all of us very excited and we have many ideas in the works that will be laid out in our roadmap infographics.

Have a fun week everyone and remember to keep coming to the forums and most importantly, our iocoinhub for the latest info on I/OCoin

Joel and Derek

IOCoin Weekly DEV Update - March 21st 2015

Our Iocoin dev updates are being posted first in our iocoinhub. Make sure to sign up to our community hub. This week we will be posting the updates in ann thread but we would love for our community to be in our hub.

Starting today updates will get a bit technical. For those of you that are not techy you may ask our community manager Richard or our project Manager Joel if you need assistance in understanding what DIONS is, or what we are doing with the code at the moment.

Well Good News! Dions beta testing has begun  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

During our initial beta test we found a bug that occurred during the creation of the name activation transaction. We found the cause of the name activation code problem and made some extensive changes to the name db code. After extensive testing, we found that the changes we made were working as planned and moved on. We then proceeded to update the functionality and support routines.  We ran a sequence of tests on the name update code changes, as well as the name activation code as a regression test, and the results were OK. We then moved  to close in on completion of the update and support routines on the basis of these development tests. We added some utility routines to help with the update code which is the last lot of changes for the 1st release candidate. We are now closing in on the 1st release candidate. 1st release candidate will only be accessible by our code reviewers, we will also be discussing changes to mods.

DIONS development is looking very promising. We will now close in on completion of the update and support routines on the basis of these development tests. We hope that in our next update, we can provide information on the ins and outs of DIONS  (How the basics will work, including register fees and other important advances we have added to the code).

A yearly Roadmap is coming so get ready, we are all very excited about our future direction

Thanks Everyone

Joel and Derek

We would like to welcome you to the I/OCoin community HUB website.

Why "HUB", well, we have all the info you need located in one website. That's why we call it a HUB.
All the necessary links, chat, polls and Facebook-like posts are here. If there is an important announcement, you will see this immediately when logging in. You will also (optional) receive daily I/OCoin Hub e-mails containing the latest info on channels you subscribed to. A new way of interacting with the community of I/OCoin. In the near future you can create your own channels if you like. Be nice to each other! Nice to see you here.

Iocoinworld.io website

Most of you have seen the iocoinworld.io website. We had the idea that iocoinworld.io would be our main community website for communications with the community. All features like in iocoinhub had to be custom made from scratch if we wanted that in the world website. But as time moves forward, you sometimes see alternatives that are just better and faster available than you can code.

Iocoinworld will not be lost. We will integrate the map into this community site and change the perspective on the usage of iocoinworld. We would love to show people where our supporters are in this small world. So, in the meantime we will focus on development of I/OCoin HUB and integration of iocoinworld worldmap somehow. If you have any ideas for that, you can leave a message in iocoinhub.io

===
A facebook style community interface with different "spaces" or channels

===
You can have your own profile page and others can follow you

===
An integrated top menu with the most interesting links like blockchain, chat, block explorer and latest wallets

===

In the near future we will add more functionality.
We hope this community hub website can help you find your way around I/OCoin and get you in touch with other community members or the I/OCoin development team.

NEWS March 1st 2015!

Tonight at around 11:50pm we hit 49.8% staking, just amazing. Thank you guys for believing so much in our project. We want to also inform our community to please remember, coins are only secure while in your desktop wallets: If any of our members decide to leave coins in an exchange overnight, we cannot ensure that your coins will be safe. Coins that are left unattended in any centralized server are in potential danger of being stolen or lost. http://www.coindesk.com/bter-bitcoin-stolen-cold-wallet-hack/ Hackers are always trying their best to find vulnerabilities in exchanges for a chance to steal your coins. Please keep your coins in wallets. In the event that an exchange gets hacked, our team will not be responsible for lost or stolen coins. By staking you help us secure the network (and make some iocoin in the process!). This is such an exciting project, and we are happy with our consistent progress. We are a grassroots movement, and we love our community.

Remember to keep an eye on this thread for updates on our progress, there are big things in store for the future.

Thanks guys.

Dions weekly update February 28th 2015

This week we found out that the pos blocks generated by the transactions contained some data corruption, which was the most probable cause of our prior problems. The transaction data that appeared to contain some corruption, may have been related to the boost libraries. Once we understood the cause of the problems we continued on with debugging. We finally had block txs and blocks broadcasted and accepted among peers on our testnet, so this is now a good start : even though there were no configuration of parameters, eg. blocks to expiry and no special tx fee’s, we had end to end testing working, which made it much easier to proceed and refine the data key value pair storage. Today we've been working on the completion of the basic op register and update calls. Now that the basic data insertion works, we are now thinking about the block expiry parameters and tx fee logic.  Over the weekend we will be  looking at the completion of the basic register and update and block expiry parameter.

Thanks Everyone

Cheers,

NEW! I/OCoin HTML5 February 22nd 2015 Release Version 1.1.6*Changed MBTC to SAT Price*

First of all backup your existing HTML5 wallet.dat before you upgrade!
Because of a bug in the current HTML5 wallet, you should not use the build in backup facility but use the below steps.
In the new release, the backup functionality is fixed.

How to backup manually
1. Open HTML5 wallet and Go to settings tab
2. Click on Show Data Folder and it will open up your I/Ocoin data Folder
3. After this folder is open, Please CLOSE down wallet (Make sure to completely close down wallet after this folder is open) Very Important
4. Once wallet is fully closed you are going to look for your wallet.dat file, inside the iocoin folder, make sure to copy and paste to another folder on the desktop, also it would be wise to backup to a USB stick.
5. Be aware, if you made a backup of the wallet that has not yet been encrypted, you should do another backup when it is encrypted and replace the old backup!

Dions weekly update February 21 2015

During this past week we were made aware of some issues that Linux wallets were experiencing, in specific having to do with transactions taking too long before they would get broadcasted to the blockchain. IN order for us to determine the causes of this issue we had to roll back all our changes and ran some regression tests on the original code. After rolling back the boost version to 48 the problems disappeared. We are now going to verify with 1.57 (=> latest boost) for the release with DIONS but we think all should be ok with the latest 1.57 after minor checks.

Today we are carrying on with DION's testing. For this, we resumed attempting to include name value pairs in transactions and transmitted them with the aim of getting them in the BC. Having tested the original code we can now try to isolate the errors in our current test code. We will continue on with this test over the weekend.

Thanks Everyone

Cheers,

Derek
