101  Economy / Securities / Re: Should I start Diablo Mining Company, a 1M BTC startup? on: April 28, 2012, 12:20:39 AM
One, the news of a $5m Bitcoin startup gracing the front page of every tech and financial news site would be worth its weight in gold; two, for those months that power generation profits exceed total operating cost I have to buy BTC to send them back out as dividends and at least some of that money is going to stay as BTC and not be converted back out; three, the aforementioned news of a $5m Bitcoin startup is going to bring a certain level of legitimacy to Bitcoin and is also going to attract more companies to bring their business here and start supporting it.

I honestly do think that someone investing into DMC is going to end up with a higher profit margin than if someone just bought and held 1m BTC alone. If I didn't think that, I wouldn't have bothered placing the plan in front of the community for their input to begin with.

Unfortunately there's a big difference between a $5M startup and a startup that's asking for $5M.

just a Ponzi ... I can not find a better comment .. sadly....

Excellent contribution. Well reasoned, convincing, and blunt. I defer to your superior powers of argument and will be withdrawing all my coins tomorrow.

I was attempting to troll copumpkin's level headed post. Seems I need to work on my trolling skills a bit....

1kg of cocaine on the street is much more than $15k.

False.

Maybe you guys live on different streets.

I will tell you what I do know. Anyone with 5K BTC or more that wanted to invest with Pirate would know who he was, where he was, how his model works

And yet Ive not seen anyone claim to know that. Have you? I dont mean anyone spilling the beans, but just saying he knows the answers and therefore decided to invest. All Ive seen is people guessing and/or not caring and just relying on his trackrecord.

Most people with lots of money tend to be discreet about it.
106  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [RAFFLE] 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC - 3 days left! on: April 24, 2012, 06:33:11 PM
So far it looks like we have a lot of winning tickets!  Wink
Can we have second and third prizes? Grin

No. No way I'm splitting my prize with any of you suckers.

Just around 76 hours left to go until the big winner is found! Is it going to be you?

Yes, it's going to be me!
108  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: pirateat40's end game on: April 24, 2012, 01:54:05 PM
Blatant, brazen scam through and through. A rating on #bitcoin-otc is the perfect 'in' and the ratings would snowball from the participants. A lot probably know it deep down, but will defend it publicly until they're ready to take their principal + "gains" out (of course they never are). The participants in pyramid schemes are just as guilty and will get what they deserve. Fractional monetary expansion always collapses.

The lack of transparency is completely anti-thetical to the principals of bitcoin. I trust bitcoin because the blockchain is a fully visible ledger.

Despite so many people being convinced that he's a scam, the "yes" bin on betsofbitco.in is not growing any larger. You'd think people would want to profit on something they are so sure of Roll Eyes
109  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: pirateat40's end game on: April 24, 2012, 05:53:56 AM
The following is pure speculation on my part, as I have no proof of anything. I just wanted to hear other people's opinion and am not trying to spread FUD.

This scam can probably last until he gets 51% of the mining power. Then use whatever money is left in the BTCST accounts and do a 51% attack against mtgox and other exchanges at the same time. Then disappear with all the money.

So this is speculation, opinion, and not FUD, and then you're talking about a scam. You also seem to feel no need to link to the prior discussion in the newbies forum, which suggests that your intentions are not so much to spark discussion as to stir up shit.

Also, every post you've made has been related to pirate, so you seem like more than a curious newbie. This is just speculation, and my opinion, and I'm not trying to spread FUD here, but you sound like a bit of a sockpuppet.

Um, why are people not borrowing money at 0% and then lending it out to tother people for more?

The amount of money available at 0% doesn't really make that worthwhile, assuming we could even get the loans in the first place Smiley

Hmm, no sign of my honey order yet Sad

I'm sure it was trashed by the post office. It will be resent this week. I'm sorry for the first round of fail.

Thanks.

Thanks! Shocked

Is that the sound of threadshitting?
116  Economy / Goods / Re: George's Famous Baklava on: April 23, 2012, 02:27:42 AM
Oh, one last question: how fast is delivery to MA?
117  Economy / Goods / Re: George's Famous Baklava on: April 23, 2012, 01:55:16 AM
Thanks for the kind words! I've been selling baklava online for 2.5 years. I had a lot of people asking if I'd accept BTCs, and I finally got that all setup early this year. I'm glad I did!

Yes, I invented deep fried baklava after my friend & business partner suggested it. It's some pretty crazy stuff to eat, lol, so come to PorcFest and try some! We make a ton of other foods, like the trainwreck. That's a gyro where you get rid of the pita bread and replace it with a 10-piece bacon weave. We went through over 200 bacon weaves last year and ran out by Thursday! We'll need to do more prep work this year to handle the load. Tongue

Wow, you need to put more of your products online!

Also, I couldn't find shipping costs on your website, or where you ship from. If I wanted some baklava (say 3lbs) shipped to MA, how much would that be and how long would it take?

Edit: nevermind, I see there's shipping info on the eBay page. It looks like it's $8.95 for 1.5lbs, so does that scale linearly for 3 lbs?
Edit 2: I'm dumb. There's full information on the checkout page Smiley
118  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Anti-Pirate: Bonds for negative BTCST investments on: April 22, 2012, 11:57:19 PM
Nefario said he would add prediction market functionality to GLBSE, and advised against using the current functionality for this (though I have had quite a few ideas how to do the latter). If neither Nefario nor anyone else do this in a timely manner, I will seriously consider becoming involved in a project to create a Bitcoin prediction market platform (both using Bitcoin for payments and being rich in Bitcoin-related predictions).
Maybe you can collaborate with him on that even, I'm not sure if a prediction market is the real main issue on GLBSE right now - if they do some serious work with some HCI people on the interface, they might get more money flowing than adding another complexity to the mix atm. If they release an extensive API soon or allow you to work with them somehow maybe, it could work side by side though. Smiley

About the bet:
It's not defined how a "default" looks like - even MPOE shares are worded more strictly! Undecided

I think there will be plenty of noise if anything remotely close to a default happens, so I doubt we'll have to resort to technicalities in describing it. betsofbitco.in clearly seems to think they have enough information to go on in judging. I wonder if whoever submitted the original statement (OgNasty?) can amend it, though.

>mutual agreement between forum members not to buy tickets
>only a few tickets are bought (preferably below 446)
>each ticket's expected value is greater than the purchase price
>Huh
>profit!

Prisoner's dilemma?
120  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Anti-Pirate: Bonds for negative BTCST investments on: April 22, 2012, 09:44:55 PM
So the million dollar question seems to be...

Will Bitcoin Savings & Trust default?

Looks like 10 bitcoins say no Smiley Who wants yes?
