101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help, Should I Invest 10k$ in GPU or ASIC ? on: January 28, 2017, 10:33:28 AM
It depends for me if you buy using bitcoins or using fiat money and how long you can wait. If it is in fiat buy ASICs without thinking twice. If it is in bitcoins there is no clear choice but I would tend to say you to to buy ASICs, in order to diversify and because Bitcoin's price will be increasing by a nice percentage that year for me.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: best little known cpu mining coins? on: January 28, 2017, 10:30:21 AM
The profitable CPU-mined coins come and go. You have to catch the train when it pass. And beware, this is an high-speed train, not a steam-powered one ! I remember that in my short great period of mining, I catched two : ZCoin (XZC) and of course the great ZCash (ZEC). But unless you have a powerful CPU where Monero (XMR) might be a good opportunity, there is nothing now and probably for a long time !
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [PASA] PascalCoin Account price speculation on: January 28, 2017, 10:26:53 AM
It is amazing what listing on a major exchange like Poloniex can do to an alt's price. The listing is something which would definitely qualify as Material Non Public Information. I am sure there must have been some insider trading which went on. Unfortunately, everything is legal in the crypto-space.

This is something sure. I would bet that the most powerful traders on Poloniex team up with the owners so they can know at the advance which coin is going to be listed and they certainly have some decision power when choosing the coins to add.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what are factors behind the success of Monero on: January 28, 2017, 10:24:12 AM
Its community. It is composed of many powerful members, regularly putting back Monero on the table, discussing it. There is no community such as Monero's one. And about the powerful members, it is even rumored that theymos would be a Monero enthusiast, but I doubt about it.
105  Economy / Economics / Re: Spending Bitcoins on: January 28, 2017, 10:21:50 AM
Real money is the one that we are using to purchase goods and services. And I can say that bitcoin is a real money because we can use it with our daily lives, trades and purchasing of the things that we are interested or need. I'm not saying that money is not a real money, I'm saying that if we are not going to spend our bitcoins, we can't prove that it is not a real money.
Spending bitcoins is all dependent on the opportunities we will be having in our local merchants level. At the same time we will be having more opportunities to spend bitcoin online rather than local levels.

Spending bitcoin or using it for investment or two different aspects but I do not think it is compulsory to prove bitcoin as a money by spending it because we are now into investment mode of bitcoin for the sake of gaining better benefits.

Yes that's the only disadvantage of spending bitcoins, we just use it online but the hope that we can use it and spend locally is always there for me. Proving bitcoin as a real money just shows that it is really worth to invest and spend to because of a lot of opportunities we can use with it.
Spending your bitcoins down at the local shop won't happen any time soon because no shop owner is going to let you leave the store without at least 1 confirmation on the transaction and they won't like holding up their other customers while waiting for this.

The best way around this at present could be for people to set up accounts at shops they frequent. If you regularly spend about $50 a week at the store then you could send $50 worth of bitcoins to their account a day or so in advance so no waiting for confirmations is needed, a sort of off chain transaction could be made and change either sent back to your account or just held in your shop account until needed next time.

No, transactions confirmations are not always a problem. If this is a shop that frequent regularly, as a baker or a grocery, you can with time get trusted and not have to wait for the confirmations. I remember shorena said in one post to be doing this : sending the bitcoins and eating while it gets confirmed, at a restaurant.
106  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Restaurants accepting bitcoin! on: January 28, 2017, 10:17:55 AM
As always this is an United States-centered map, and no other country in the world is represented... They say that we can add restaurants ourselves, but we will not know that is restaurants in our country if we do not live in the great cities if it is not written there !

108  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can the impact of Bitcoin prices ahead of the Lunar New Year? on: January 28, 2017, 09:58:43 AM
It is today and nothing happened yet, so I think nothing will happen at all. You know, this rise was not artificial as the prvious ones may have been. At least this is what numbers of people are stating as an explanation. These people explain that India may be the reason, and I think this is right. So now that China is I think not the cause of the rise, this means that all the bitcoins they would have bought during this can not be dumped to buy things for Chines New Year.

But ! Another theory would be that if the price stays constant for Chinese New Year, that could be because unlike the previous years where Chinese used their bitcoins to buy things for their friends and family, since now and for the coming years, more and more Chinese will offer directly bitcoins.
109  Economy / Economics / Re: How is the capital found? on: January 28, 2017, 09:52:03 AM
The main question of poor people in the era of capitalism, where the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer.
Usually when I ask a young owner how did he get it he says parents paid for it or he took over a family business.

-marry into a rich family
-inherit money
-befriend someone rich and borrow money
-take a loan in a bank
-rob a bank  Grin
-work like a mule eat cheap crap and save money

Hope the guide will prove useful Wink

The most clear message, but there is also something missing : the crowdfunding. In case your businesss is innovative you can use those platforms. And in case it is not you should simply not open it since you will be facing great difficulties to make money with it !
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is Gold 2.0 – What humanity has been waiting for centuries on: January 28, 2017, 09:49:40 AM
I think you are right. Gold was the most used store of wealth, but it was lacking the ability to be transfered easily. It could also be robbed. So Bitcoin is a very great innovation because it solves those two problems, but another one is created : you can loose your bitcoins by yourself ! Given the number of people that sent bitcoins to a wrong address, this is the proof that this is not just idiots that send their bitcoins to the wrong address. The developpers should maybe focus on this rather than on other useless things.
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [EXP] Expanse Speculation Thread on: January 27, 2017, 09:49:59 PM
Defaced projects never work out well so far. Is he the core dev here?

FRK is now about to get delisted from bittrex and is basically an outdated and abandon project. Lots of promises there but little came of them.

I look for devs that are dedicated and proven.

Defaced is not alone on this altcoin. But this is true that until now there has been many promises, but something as minor as a GUI just came now after more than a year. Maybe changes will come but be patient ! I will still look at Expanse's price as this is an altcoin that I like, but I do not except something too violent in term of short-term price increase, if there is anything...
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZEC vs ZCL, what makes one better? on: January 27, 2017, 09:46:36 PM
None is best by the technology, since last time I took a look at ZCash (ZEC), it was broken, but this may have been fixed since then. So ZCash is overpriced, and ZCash Classic (ZCL) is about what ZEC should be, but like for all little altcoins, price is virtually inflated by a few people. For the difference in development : ZEC creates the innovations and ZCL copies them.
113  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does bitcoin price speculation make sense on: January 27, 2017, 09:38:01 PM
You partly wrong : there is paterns that are repeating, and this is normal, they are just the consequence of one's normal reactions to high price fluctuations. Also, predicting the price is not useless as since Bitcoin is not a game, his price is tied to real-world events, so often when something happens, the discussions heads toward identifying if this will impact the price or if it the latest increase was because of this.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi? Why did he hide his identity? on: January 27, 2017, 09:32:34 PM
To this day we do not know who is exactly Satoshi, and I doubt we will ever know. There is as much supposed reasons for Satoshi to hide than there is people that claimed to be Satoshi, with between those : fear for his life, him being dead, etc.
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PASCALCOIN] How It Increased By 4800% Yesterday? on: January 27, 2017, 06:00:22 PM
This Pascal coin pump reminds me of the ETC story, this is the way Poloniex list it and it just catch fire. I would have loved to take part of the cake but I'm already late to the party. I just hope miners will not kill it the way they kill Lbry tokens

So miners killed LBRY for you ? Why are you saying this ? I mined LBRY for days, maybe weeks and I do not think I killed it. At the contrary, miners make the coin live more than they make it die, as they are needed to run the network, so I do not understand why you are saying this.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PASCALCOIN] How It Increased By 4800% Yesterday? on: January 26, 2017, 06:22:08 PM
You are so naive Cheesy ! Folks on Poloniex are people seeking profit. They absolutely not care about the technological innovation or what, as they always bring their profits back in Bitcoin, since this is the master crypto-currency and this will never change. When there is something branded as innovative, they rush to pump it as they have arguments already prepared to fool people. I insist on branded, as it is probably not true that it is innovative. And could just half of you tell me why it is that fantastic, without looking to some pre-written text on the Pascal's thread ? I bet most of Pascal supporters repeating all day long that this is the new crypto-currency to rule them all do not even know what they are talking about and already predicted another altcoin branded as totally revolutionnary would take the lead !
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Pascal Coin is going to be a major breakthrough on: January 26, 2017, 06:14:25 PM
As usual, there is now on Poloniex Panic Buy. After some time coin price will begin to fall. Its normal.

Excatly. When there is a thread describing an altcoin as phenomenal, revolutionary or such and this thread is placed in the Speculation section, you know what the intention is. I heard about Pascal, but I do not think that it will be that incredible. As time proved, having the best technology ever will not prevent you from being valueless.
118  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trump will crash the markets and bitcoin and gold will go to Jupiter on: January 26, 2017, 06:05:42 PM
Being president of the United States is not being a monarch. He has ministers, and very good ones, at least in the domain of finance. They all re billionnaire, so they know very well the economy they are ruling. Do not worry : even if he was not that well helped, he could not do any mistake, as at the inverse of how the communist countries used to rule their economy, companies are not owned by the state, and he can not hurt them, so do not worry (or in your case that would be a good thing for you) !
119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin overcome Paypal? on: January 26, 2017, 06:01:12 PM
Seeing Bitcoin overcoming PayPal in a very near future would not surprise me at all. If platforms like Coinbase can grow (as a mainstream adoption of Bitcoin will need for users to not hold the bitcoins and make sure they can not lose them and send them easily from a mobile application, then I see no other future than this one.
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Looking to Invest 1 bitcoin on: January 25, 2017, 05:59:20 PM
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to all of this and I need some opinions. I realize nobody can predict the future......hear all, trust nothing. If you guys had 1 bitcoin to invest in an alt coin. What would you choose and why?

I'm not afraid of risk.

I was reading about Byteball and it seems interesting. I'm not expert and most of this stuff is over my head.

I would go for zCash as it has the potential. It has been on a steady downward trend for some time now and the price looks attractive. You will get 20-21 zCash for 1 Bitcoin and you can sit on it for a year. It might go up multiple times in that period.

I would never but never go to buy an altcoin of which the price has been decreasing permanently since it has been introduced to the market ! I have no other recommendation as I am not in the altcoin game anymore. But yet I do not have a clue about what is good to invest in, I know what to avoid at any cost ! And ZCash is part of this category.
