102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin core 0.13.1 Timeline on: October 28, 2016, 02:53:47 PM
yeah, now I got it even more. Makes absolutely sense! Thank you very much for your detailed explanation Smiley
103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin core 0.13.1 Timeline on: October 28, 2016, 01:37:27 PM
One more...why is the blockchain always cheching the previous blocks? Is it not possible that it is checking immediately that 2016 blocks have been with version 0.13.1?
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin core 0.13.1 Timeline on: October 28, 2016, 01:35:12 PM
Thank you so much franky1!!!! I got it Cheesy

Does that also mean, that the first block with a higher transaction number (with segwit) can be mined after 4032 blocks or actually at block 4033?
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin core 0.13.1 Timeline on: October 28, 2016, 09:42:44 AM
Folks,

I have a question on the timeline because Im not getting it properly.

Bitcoin core is writing:

Miners will be able to signal that they are willing and able to enforce segwit starting at the beginning of the first 2,016-block retarget period on or after 15 November 2016 (UTC).

If 95% of blocks within any retarget period signal support for segwit, it locks-in.

That means on the 15th November Miner are able to signal if they accept 0.13.1 which needs a 95% acceptance within 2016 blocks.

Bitcoin core is further writing:

After another 2,016-block (roughly two week) retarget period, segwit will activate, allowing miners to produce blocks containing segwit transactions on Bitcoin’s mainnet.

I dont understand why another 2016 block period is needed. I thought after the first 2016 blocks 0.13.1 is activated. What is happening in the second period?

Thanks guys!!!

106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vault proposed by Emin Gun Sirer on: October 21, 2016, 08:26:21 AM
I'm unable to play the sound in the link you gave me but unless users will have full control over their private keys , I don't support the idea, reversing transactions is also another thing that shouldn't be in BTC.

My understanding is that you cant pay a merchant with such a vault address otherwise you could always reverse a transaction after you have paid a coffee. You need to unlock the vault, wait a specific time which you have determined (e.g. 24 hours) and then you can pay someone.
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Vault proposed by Emin Gun Sirer on: October 21, 2016, 08:16:38 AM
Guys, have you heard about the Bitcoin Vaults proposed by Gun? For me it sounds like a very elegant solution and I think it would very enhance the Bitcoin network. We need a better security!!

Who wants to dive in to this proposal I would recommend to listen to this podcast:

https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/lets-talk-bitcoin-306-bitcoin-vaults-and-selective-reversibility-as-a-virtue

My question now:

1: He is talking about two keys. The first key to unlock the vault and the second key to reverse a transaction in case your first key has been compromised. However, he is also talking about to "burn" the coins in case your first and e coins? Is there a third key?

2: Do you see any negative regarding the Bitcoin Vaults?

Thanks for your opinion!
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why is Bitcoin such a secure technology? on: September 23, 2016, 08:44:46 PM
Sometimes people ask me "What makes Bitcoin so secure? Why is this technology so safe?

How would you answer this question? Do I have to answer it with regards to Proof of Work?

Thanks for your thoughts on this  Smiley

110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Circlepay in iOS 10 on: September 13, 2016, 09:24:05 PM
Guys, I guess you have heard that Apple will integrate Circlepay in the iMessage in iOS 10. Im wondering where is the advantage to use Circlepay (they use Bitcoin) instead of e.g. paypal. Most people will send USD or EUR and not bitcoin. Im sure Circlepay will use bitcoin in the back to do the transactions. Would it not easier just to integrate paypal in the iMessage?

For instance: Sending from Germany to my friend in the US 30 EUR. PayPal would just to exchange the EUR into Dollars. Circlepay would first exchange EUR into Bitcoins, do the transaction and then exchange Bitcoins into Dollar. What do I see wrong?

Thanks!
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 02, 2016, 12:38:13 PM
beside a new website and some bla bla i dont think u can expect anything to be delivered in september
the market reaction is clear and we will see sub 500 maybe even sub 400 again

dont get me wrong i think FCT have a high potential

but the time to raise and stay high is not here now

coins who have lending added at poloniex

are way more vulnerable to massive sells

think my words when it happens

They have announced that they have as a development goal the promotion of the Factom public Testnet for August/September which in my understanding is the M2 (Milestone 2). David Johnston also said in the interview with TaiZen that they are very close to completion. I would just chillax and wait for the announcement...I think that will be huge.
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 01, 2016, 06:55:36 PM
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like things are changing significantly at Poloniex.  A few days ago there was 450K Factom in the sell side order book; now there's 280K.  So the amount of FCT available for purchase has dropped by 60%.  Meanwhile, the buy side order book stays strong - consistently over 1K BTC, currently 1365.   Anybody tracking the margin requirements on FCT and how that's changed in the past week?

Yes, I have also noticed that the sell side decreased from around 420k FCT to now 290k FCT. Buy side still over 1k BTC. How would you assess this?

118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Wallet ETH/ETC on: August 02, 2016, 09:04:31 AM
Folks,

I have bought Ether before the hard fork and have it deposited in my Ethereum Wallet. What do I have to do to send my ETH to Poloniex and to send it at the same time also my ETC to Poloniex. Do you know what I mean?

Thx appreciate your help!
