101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 25, 2016, 09:54:12 PM
I think it's a good idea to explain the pillars of Monero but in my opinion I don't think is a good idea to display the gold, cash and bitcoin. Wouldn't it be better to show an icon with the blockchain+privacy+digital coin. Perhaps, a cool icon mixing a blockchain map(1), a lock(2) and a coin being created out of 1&2 and binary numbers fading from the coin to imply that's digital.

It's just an idea  Wink

Off topic. Approximately how long does it take to harvest something? and is there a way to check if you are really harvesting?it has been more than 24hrs after my vested balance was >10k and I haven't harvest anything with 0,82% importance, is that normal?
although it is necessary to have 50-60k to be less time and succeed in the catch block and so conceived in the system of the NEM, although the planned harvesting at 10,000 NEM and the probability that the catch block too, but here we have to say that the importance of the account and receive blocks accounts with a large number of coins ( now probably accounts more 1x mln ), and that here at this stage the probability to catch a block with 10k is equal to 0, but to catch the empty blocks ( blocks without pay ) can be obtained, although, but the chance is 0.80% on catch block is not bad and that probably from 24-48h it will take time for this
Awesome, thanks! Atm my vested balance is 25k and my balance around 160k.

2 more things I noticed

1)http://nodeexplorer.com/ has currently 0 nodes. Not sure why

2)Does NEM's POI favours exchanges such as Poloniex with more importance than an active user or is there something that avoids exchange to control the harvesting? I read the white paper but this still not clear to me.

Cheers

1) been like that for some time. Site is broken appearantly.

2) Nope, nothing that kepps exchanges from harvesting which makes it even more important that people don't keep their XEM on exchanges. You can be active like a mad man you're not going to outweigh THAT kind of balance.

So, are you saying that your XEM balance in an exchange counts as if theirs?

is XMR going to be the biggest competitor for Vpncoin? if it is so, how is Vpncoin better or different applied to the real economy? Cheers

In another topic delegated harvesting just came up. Is that working now atm?
I'm using it atm. Is there a way to check if you are really harvesting?

i'll keep spamming this URL until you guys start to read it: http://blog.nem.io/nem-tutorial-list/
Very good material. However, the tutorial about installing NEM on windows amazon AWS VPS is not there...

Thanks!

Amazon free VPS with Windows is horrible...
That ubuntu version is more responsible but to be honest won't pass supernode test.
For free node it can be but for supernode Amazon free is to weak.
Making ubuntu is quite easy with scripts:
https://github.com/Stoner19/Nem-Installers-master

they are working,

Appreciate it. I will try it with Ubuntu.

I was thinking to help with a super node as well but atm I don't have the funds (3m) I could borrow some money but I'm nor sure if there is any ROI with the super node at least to cover the costs.

Many thanks for your help!

how much do you need to get to 3m ?

Also that barrier might be lowered in the future

Quite too much... atm I only have around 150k. Gotta admit I just recently jumped into the boat and XEM might not be as cheap as other users bought it. There are no nodes around Geneva to remote in and the same applies to Venezuela. I think SEM could be very good for Venezuela due to it's current situation, and I could help since I'm from there.

Cheers

Very good material. However, the tutorial about installing NEM on windows amazon AWS VPS is not there... do you happen to have the link? I have contacted NEM via twitter, facebook, blog.nem.io and nothing. I'm very motivated by this project and the whole idea behind POI but so far the community doesn't seem very active on these platforms. Hopefully I can find some help here.

Also if someone could add me to the telegram chat that would be amazing @fiazk

Thanks!
