101  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 23, 2013, 03:19:09 PM
I was thissssss close to taking the FGCU ML. Be thankful.

Somebody did though, if only a smallish amount. That's still more than a 8x return on investment, not bad...

Win or lose Friday? What teams were bet the most?

NCAA had pretty crazy action with a lot of ups and downs. I think almost all games had some bets on them. I guess that's March Madness... I'm glad half the teams are gone already Smiley In general it was a pretty good day, though it always comes down to a few games to determine if it's a winner or a loser (or break-even). I don't think there was any one game with most bets, but the big teams usually get a lot of action (Thunder, Knicks, Heat, Lakers, Pittsburgh Penguins etc.).

Today's NCAA games are up, as well as the first NHL games. NBA will be live soon. Looks like no UFC tonight...

If taxes were not there, one might assume the road would never get fixed.  However, if enough people got together and decided they'd like the road they drive on to be nice, they'll cough up the cash and pay someone to do it.

My guess would still be that 80% of the people would just assume that somebody else is going to pay for the road and they'll get to use it for free. Or they might chip in a couple of dollars just in principle, but that's not nearly enough to get the job done.

How about people just get to keep the fruits of their labor instead, and fund any government entirely through voluntary donation?

This argument has been made before, and unfortunately I don't share your optimism for humanity in this aspect. People tend to only care about things that directly influence them so - why donate to hospitals if you're not sick? Why donate to schools if you don't have kids? Why donate to libraries if you don't read that much? etc.

Sure there will be generous people backing important projects, but their donations would have to be continuous and substantial to cover all the people who aren't donating anything.

Btw, how long has the current Wikipedia fundraiser been going on?
104  Economy / Gambling / Re: New BTC Found on: March 22, 2013, 05:37:32 PM
I was tricked to a ponzi presentation a couple of years ago, and what I learned was that people pretty much believe what they want to believe, and no amount of reasoning or evidence will make them change their beliefs. Good luck.
105  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SatoshiDICE: Win Bitcoins while stress testing the network! (Reddit ad) on: March 22, 2013, 05:33:44 PM
how is that illegal?  i can't think of any ads that aren't misleading or false in some ways.

His site has nothing to do with stress testing the network, but there they are making it sound like the people are almost required to play in order to help the network. Basically, they're trying to pretend that it's not a gambling site, of course most people will figure it out but only after clicking the link. I'm not trying to pretend I'm an expert on the topic, but basically he's advertising apples and serving oranges and a lot of people might be upset about that if they were expecting apples.
106  Economy / Gambling / Re: Law on gambling Bitcoin - Do I need a licence? on: March 22, 2013, 04:43:30 PM
You honestly brought nothing new to the table, and isn't your whole first paragraph an oxymoron since you say don't listen to your own advice?

Exactly. I said that Internet forums aren't the best places to seek legal advice, especially because the OP didn't say which country he plans to operate from. But now that we know, I suppose UK is better than US in this regard.

Regarding the rest of your post, I'm not interested to argue about my business with you.
107  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 22, 2013, 04:33:11 PM
Yo, is there a way you can add a feature so someone could check their bets after you take the lines off?

Well, not easily anyway. Plus I don't want to keep a database on our customers even if all the bets can be found on the blockchain. But I'll keep that request in mind.

I guess that I'm the only one losing.  Angry

Sorry to hear that, but I guess the wins don't distribute evenly. Yesterday there were a lot of bets on the longshot underdogs, but not much luck with them... Except the 76ers probably should have won that game with 13.13 (+1213) odds. Not gonna lie, there was a lot of money on that game. I had some trouble getting sleep after it. Never seen anything like that before, Denver made 3 free throws with 2 seconds remaining to come from behind to win the game after Philly had missed two.

some lines on the world cup qualifiers today would be nice. At least the "big" teams any how.

Pretty busy with March Madness and all, but I did put a couple of the more interesting games up on our Bundesliga page. Hope you'll find your game there. Sorry that today's games won't be more extensively covered.

One thing I'm seeing with Bitcoin and the Internet is the bad advertising because nobody is monitoring it - not sure if that's a good or a bad thing but I've seen more than one site advertise with features that they don't actually have or use words like "biggest", "best" or "number #1" and from where I come from such claims should be backed by evidence and not used at will because they sound nice.

The SatoshiDice ad is at least clever, but I'm guessing it would still be illegal in the US and EU because the reality of SatoshiDice is very different from the ad (and it's not clearly a parody ad or anything like that).
109  Economy / Gambling / Re: Law on gambling Bitcoin - Do I need a licence? on: March 22, 2013, 09:33:03 AM
It's a complicated topic and I'm not sure if there is an easy answer. But trust me, you don't want to take any "Jr. members" opinion on this (including mine). I assume you're an US citizen (and living there), so you'll want to be very careful with this to say the least.

Second, think about if your gambling site is worth the trouble. We have new dice or casino or ponzi games popping up every day or so that are bringing nothing new to the table, so why should people play there instead of the already established and trusted sites?
110  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 20, 2013, 01:25:41 PM
Congrats. We've been losing bitcoins for 3-4 days in a row, so right now it's a good day if we lose "only a little". I'm starting to wonder if somebody has the games rigged, maybe some NBA players are taking advantage of the anonymity aspects of Bitcoin...

Don't worry about it though, we've still got plenty left in our wallets Smiley Tonight's March Madness games are up and the NBA and NHL games will be live later as usual.
111  Economy / Gambling / Re: The nerve of BTCsportsbet on: March 19, 2013, 08:05:30 PM
I'm also curious to know. Not wanting to start a flame war but the guy does leave a pretty arrogant image of himself when he can't write one message without dissing every other sportsbook with whatever imaginary argument he's come up with (see his latest thread just now).
112  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 19, 2013, 03:26:40 PM
March Madness games are now live - spreads and totals have the same 1.92/-109 odds as our NBA games for now, let's see how it goes. Site also has a bit more color to it Smiley

Get those CBB lines up quick! Other shops are ahead of you! Should've been up last night!

We'll have money lines, handicaps and point totals starting from early tomorrow morning. We won't be doing brackets if that's what people are wondering, but there's another guy on the gambling forum who seems to be running one for those interested.
114  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 18, 2013, 10:13:00 AM
First of all, congrats to the winners. One of those days when almost every bet was a winner... Clippers, Timberwolves and Lakers were pretty good for the players yesterday.

I think it's normal to be a bit worried about every new Bitcoin business, so that's why it's good to look around for any customer comments and maybe start with a smaller amount. We get a lof of bets each day and especially on the weekends there are games being played pretty much around the clock, so that's why there are sometimes delays in payouts. Typically all NBA and NHL games will be graded a few hours after the last games have finished, so it can all be done in one sitting. Some games will be graded earlier if possible, always within 12 hours of the end of each game.

March Madness should be live tomorrow when the games start Smiley

Btw, BB, I have some comments about your site's code? What would be the best way to contact you about that? PM?

I'll send you a PM. Interested to hear what it is. Probably the quickest way to reach me is through PM for any questions or comments.
115  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 15, 2013, 02:21:24 PM
Thanks for the reminder, UFC odds are online. We've also added F1 racing as mentioned earlier, first race will be in Australia this weekend and odds for the qualifications are up. I hope it will have some action even if F1 isn't that popular in the US.

Tonight's NBA and NHL games will be posted a bit later than usual, but they'll be online in plenty of time before the first matches.
116  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 14, 2013, 05:07:36 PM
That is pretty harsh, but that's sports. Yesterday in the NBA, 9 out of 11 games ended in a home win, even when considering the handicaps. A lot of people had bet on the Lakers, and it doesn't get any easier for them now that Kobe is out of the lineup :/
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alert: chain fork caused by pre-0.8 clients dealing badly with large blocks on: March 12, 2013, 06:19:37 PM
Not sure why everyone is so panicked.

When I have a lot of money invested in Bitcoin and I get an error message and I'm not sure what it means... Well, let's just say that I got a bit worried. Not everybody knows the technical aspects that well. I'm glad they addressed the issues quickly and in a professional manner though.
118  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 12, 2013, 10:15:03 AM
Looks like everything is under control. I'm really impressed by how quickly the issue was solved by the Bitcoin community. I can't tell if any bets have been returned due to the chain fork, but I'm going to begin payouts for all winning bets that we have in our system wallet. And yes, it includes at least one 6 BTC bet.

Odds for FC Barcelona - AC Milan will be posted shortly, can't wait for that game to start Smiley

Accidental post, was supposed to add information to my previous post. But as mentioned, we'll follow whatever instructions we get from the Bitcoins devs. My expectation is that all bets made before the issue can be honored.

Gotta say some of those headlines are pretty creative.
