102  Economy / Economics / Re: Interest and Bitcoin - Impossible? on: April 19, 2013, 12:13:01 PM
I totally understand your thinking, and believe you are a bit off the mark on a few points.

The fiat system has been around for probably most of your life, and has distorted the way you think about money.

Interest can probably exist with BTC, but it would be nowhere near 10% pa  due to the reason that you described.

Losses due to bad investments (ie defaults) would also be a lot higher than in the current system.

Therefore, due to risk of loss and the low return, one would never be willing to lead out ALL of his/her BTC as the risk / return ratio would be too high.

Also as there is no inflation in a totally BTC world, a return of 1% might be the norm.

104  Bitcoin / Mining support / Internet speed? Relevance? on: April 18, 2013, 05:30:02 AM
Just wondering if the Internet speed and latency have an effect on mining success?

I can set up my miner at my place with regular broadband, or setup at my parents with fibre to the house.

Thanks

I emailed the address on the site to ask a few questions about the product.

The response is below, and was received within a an hour.

Hi Adam

You are quite right it is hard to predict the exact cost of everything before we know the answers.

What I can say is we will have multiple products

You can expect to see products that are available in one or two weeks from date of order which will still earn you money and return in a short time frame.  Also products and services which will have a longer lead time but will be competitive  the performance of the existing market players

107  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Avalon ASIC Chips Group buy on: April 15, 2013, 11:54:45 PM
I am very interested.

Would be interested in 100 chips or so.

Would also agree with the others, escrow by a trusted forum member would be great, and a minimum order of 25 or 50 would be a good idea as well.

Thanks

110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Free silver quarters on: April 15, 2013, 11:41:22 PM
Congratulations on your endeavours.

Long term silver and BTC should be great.

They just need patience and time, and understanding to realise that markets go up and down for reasons other than fundamentals.

Owning a few silver coins makes people take notice, and learn to ride the dips.

111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ripples...How Do I buy them? on: April 15, 2013, 11:38:15 PM
I dont think there are ripples for sale. I think each user just selects the currencies they will transact in, and those units get transfered, ie USD and BTC.

112  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASIC on: April 15, 2013, 11:36:48 PM
I think the last to get to the party, are the ones that miss out.

But as almost everyone will be on ASIC's, you will have pretty much the same gear as the experts. Therefore its more of a level playing field, and each player has a certain percent of the hashrate, and therefore the same percent of the mined bitcoins.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: April 13, 2013, 02:31:15 AM
The restrictions are good for the forum, but poorly communicated.

It has only taken me 3 hrs and 46 mins to find out how to post.

Trust but verify.

Get positive feedback about the person/company from several people from several different sources.
